The Nissan Maxima, a long-standing nameplate, offers a blend of sporty styling and near-luxury features in a large sedan. The 2022 model continues this tradition. It's a 4-door sedan, available in trims like SV, SR, and Platinum. New models typically range from the low $30,000s to over $40,000. Its sporty driving dynamics and upscale interior for the price make it popular.
The Good

The 2022 Maxima provides satisfying performance from its V6 engine, offering confident acceleration. Its comfortable ride and well-appointed interior appeal to those seeking luxury. While not the most fuel-efficient, it's reasonably efficient. Its attractive design and reputation for solid reliability also contribute to its appeal. It provides good value for those wanting a sporty, large sedan.

The Bad

The 2022 Maxima's age is showing; it lacks some of the latest technology found in newer rivals. Its CVT transmission, while generally reliable, can feel uninspiring to some drivers. The rear seat headroom is limited due to the sloping roofline. All-wheel drive is unavailable, limiting its appeal in snowy climates. It's also not as fuel-efficient as some competitors.

What Problems Does the 2022 Nissan Maxima Have?

While the 2022 Nissan Maxima is generally considered reliable, some issues have been reported. Some owners have reported minor infotainment system glitches. CVT transmission issues are a potential concern, although Nissan has made improvements over the years. Some owners experience premature brake wear.

Recalls for the 2022 Maxima have been relatively infrequent. It's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any active recalls related to your specific VIN.

Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the CVT transmission. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes at the recommended intervals, is crucial for extending the CVT's lifespan. Suspension components, particularly struts and bushings, may require replacement over time, especially in areas with rough roads. Oil consumption can be an issue on higher mileage vehicles. Overall, the Maxima tends to be reliable with proper maintenance but these are issues to be aware of when considering a used model.

How long will the 2022 Nissan Maxima last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2022 Nissan Maxima can realistically achieve 150,000 to 200,000 miles, potentially lasting 10-15 years. Consistent oil changes, transmission fluid services, and regular inspections are vital. Long-term durability hinges on the CVT transmission's health; adhering to Nissan's recommended service schedule is critical. Weaknesses can emerge in suspension components (struts, bushings), potentially requiring replacement as mileage increases. Rust can be a factor in colder climates with road salt. Overall, the Maxima is generally durable if well-maintained.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Nissan Maxima comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen NissanConnect infotainment system, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. It also includes navigation on higher trims. Standard entertainment features include a Bose premium audio system on the SR and Platinum trims.

Driver-assistance features are comprehensive, including standard automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. The Platinum trim adds an around-view monitor (360-degree camera).

Safety features include front, side, and curtain airbags, as well as stability control and traction control. The 2022 Maxima received generally positive crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA, though specific ratings can vary. Check the IIHS and NHTSA websites for the latest and most accurate crash-test data. Optional features are primarily limited to trim-specific upgrades, such as premium leather, upgraded wheels, and interior trim enhancements.

How Does the 2022 Nissan Maxima Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2022 Nissan Maxima competes with vehicles like the Toyota Avalon, Kia Stinger, and Chrysler 300. Performance-wise, the Maxima's V6 offers good acceleration, but the Stinger is sportier overall. In terms of features, the Maxima offers a competitive set of technology and safety equipment, though some rivals offer more advanced driver-assistance systems. Reliability is generally good, but the Avalon has a stronger track record.

Price-wise, the Maxima is competitive. The Avalon offers a more comfortable ride and better fuel economy, while the Kia Stinger delivers more engaging driving dynamics. The Chrysler 300 provides a more spacious interior.

Alternatives: The Toyota Avalon is a more sensible choice for those prioritizing reliability and comfort. The Kia Stinger is a sportier alternative. The Acura TLX offers a more refined driving experience and upscale interior. If you value sporty handling over outright luxury, the Stinger would be a great choice. For pure comfort and space, the Avalon is hard to beat.

The SR trim is a good choice for those prioritizing sportiness, while the Platinum offers the most luxury. Consider a well-maintained used model with a comprehensive service history, focusing on CVT transmission health. It's a good choice if you want sporty styling and a powerful V6 but don't need all-wheel drive.

THE CAR THATWAS CHEATED OUT OF HORSE POWER TOO BAD

I OWN A 2016 MAXIMA SR AND I DRIVE THE HECK OUT OF IT, ONE OF THE BEST CARS I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. IT MAY NOT HAVE THE HORSE POWER, I BELIEVE IT SHOULD HAVE, BUT IT WILL GIVE ANY CAR IN IT`S CLASS A RUN FOR IT`S MONEY. ROAD AND TRACK OR MOTOR TREND SAID IT WAS HARDLEY A 4 DOOR SPORTS CAR, MAYBE NOT BUT IT`S CLOSE. FROM 2016 TO 2023 IN MY OPINION, NISSAN HELD BACK ON THE NISSAN MAXIMA. HORSE POWER SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 350 HORES POWER

Comfortable, Stylish, and Honest Premium Sedan

I had a '22 Maxima SV as a rental in South Florida and I feel qualified to write a review as I put 1500 miles on it in the course of 4 days (due to my flight being cancelled I had to drive it back to ATL). As an avid car enthusiast, I was thoroughly impressed with the Maxima. It was reasonably comfortable while still retaining an ounce of athleticism, the 3.5 V6 was super smooth and even made a nice growl upon heavy acceleration, and the CVT isn't actually that bad (works great in stop and go traffic). The SV trim has everything you would want feature wise and the Apple Car Play worked fantastic. I will say the fit and finish is great for a normal car brand, however not the best stacked up to brands such as Lexus, BMW, etc. The adaptive cruise worked pretty decent however after daily driving a Model 3, it would have been nice to have some sort of lane centering feature. I also averaged 28 MPG and I wasn't taking it easy (80 MPH+) which was very impressive. The Maxima is a super solid premium sedan contender, still looks very stylish, has plenty of space, performs well in the city and on the highway, and overall is a super honest car.
