The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class, a compact roadster, continues the SLK's legacy of offering open-top motoring with luxury and performance. Produced from 1996 through 2020 (later renamed SLC), the SLK offers a retractable hardtop, blending coupe comfort with convertible thrills. Key trims for 2014 include the SLK250, SLK350, and the high-performance SLK55 AMG. Pricing typically ranged from $43,000 to $70,000 when new. Its retractable hardtop and Mercedes-Benz prestige make it a popular choice.
The Good

The 2014 SLK offers a compelling blend of performance and luxury. Emotionally, the retractable hardtop provides open-air thrills and coupe comfort. Aesthetically, the design is sleek and refined. Practically, the SLK offers decent fuel efficiency (depending on the engine) and Mercedes-Benz build quality, promising relative reliability and comfort for daily driving. The AMG variant provides exhilarating performance.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2014 SLK include potential issues with the retractable hardtop mechanism, which can be expensive to repair. Some owners have reported electronic glitches and sensor malfunctions. The rear suspension might require attention over time. The SLK250's engine, while efficient, may feel underpowered to some. Ensure regular maintenance is documented.

What Problems Does the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class include issues with the power-retractable hardtop mechanism. This can range from slow operation to complete failure, often requiring expensive repairs. Electrical issues, such as sensor malfunctions and problems with the COMAND system, are also reported. Some owners have experienced issues with the fuel system, including fuel pump failures.

Long-term reliability concerns center around the aging of electronic components and the potential for hydraulic leaks in the hardtop system. Oil leaks, particularly in the SLK350 and SLK55 AMG models, are something to watch for. Suspension components, especially the rear suspension, may require replacement over time. While the 2014 model year doesn't have a significantly higher number of complaints compared to other years in the same generation, proactively addressing maintenance and addressing issues promptly is important for long-term reliability. Check for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions before purchasing.

How long will the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class last?

With good maintenance, a 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class can provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles of service, or 10-15 years. Long-term durability is generally good if regular maintenance is performed. However, weaknesses include potential issues with the retractable hardtop mechanism, electrical systems, and the aforementioned oil leaks (especially on the V6 and V8 models). Preventive maintenance, such as regular fluid changes (oil, transmission, coolant), is crucial for maximizing lifespan. Cars with detailed service records generally command higher resale values and tend to be more reliable in the long run.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class features a COMAND infotainment system with a 5.8-inch display, Bluetooth audio streaming, USB input, and HD radio. Optional features include a navigation system, Harman Kardon Logic7 surround-sound audio, and satellite radio. Driver-assistance features included standard features such as stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and multiple airbags. Optional features comprised parking sensors and a rearview camera.

Safety features: Mercedes-Benz attention assist monitors driver fatigue, is standard.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) for the 2014 SLK-Class are generally positive, offering good protection in moderate overlap front, side, and roof strength tests. However, specific NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) ratings may be limited due to the vehicle's low production volume. The Airscarf system, blowing warm air on the neck, is an optional feature adding to the convertible experience, particularly in cooler weather.

I love it

I love my Benz even tho it does have some common issues just like any other European vehicles. However, it’s a great car overall and I would recommend it!

Too many problems

Too expensive to repair minor items, as well as routine service and things go wrong on a 6 year old car. It is true at many foreign vehicles.

The most satisfying car I?ve ever driven or owned.

Car looks, feels, drives, like new. I had been looking for the model and year I wanted without much luck. I finally found it on Cars.com. And for $6,000.00 less than the previous cars I looked at. The whole deal took around two hours, and I already know where to buy my next car. The salesman, paper work, test drive were actually pleasurable. I actually called the salesman and thanked him. That?s a first. Everyone exceeded my expectations. It was definitely worth the two and a half hour drive to get there from Palm Bay.

What a toy

I have multiple vehicles and the SLK350 is my fair weather toy. It has limited space but if it had wings it would fly. Terrific road car that handles so well you want to take the road with twists and turns. The folding hardtop and styling shows you have arrived and the 350 performance is top shelf. If you have a garage and a daily driver and take pride in your ride then this is the car for you

This car is so fun to drive. It handles well which makes you want to get out on the curving roads. The best of both worlds whether hard top up of convertible down.
