The Good
The 2009 Mitsubishi Raider offered decent performance with its V6 and V8 engine options. Its bold design appealed to emotional buyers. Practically, it provided truck utility at a competitive price point. While not class-leading in reliability, it offered acceptable comfort for daily use and a rugged feel appealing to truck enthusiasts.
The Bad

What Problems Does the 2009 Mitsubishi Raider Have?
Recalls have been issued for the Mitsubishi Raider, so it's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to ensure all applicable recall repairs have been performed. Long-term reliability is a general concern due to the truck's age and the common issues reported. Models from all years (2006-2009) seem to share similar problems, although some might experience issues more frequently based on usage and maintenance history. Prior owners' maintenance practices greatly influence a used Raider's reliability.
How long will the 2009 Mitsubishi Raider last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Optional features included things like power windows and locks, cruise control, and keyless entry. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) varied. Some ratings were acceptable, while others were less impressive, particularly in side-impact tests. Due to its age, its safety features are less advanced than newer vehicles. Reviewing specific crash-test reports for the 2009 Raider is advisable before purchasing.

How Does the 2009 Mitsubishi Raider Compare to Other Pickup Truck?
In terms of price, the Raider was often more affordable, which was its main selling point. However, that lower price came with trade-offs in reliability and features. The Tacoma consistently ranks higher in reliability and resale value, while the Frontier offers a more balanced package. A better alternative would be a well-maintained Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Frontier of similar vintage, despite a potentially higher initial cost, which would likely offset overall with lower repair bills and improved longevity. A similar alternative, if price is a primary concern, might be a Chevrolet Colorado, focusing on finding a unit with good maintenance history.

Final Verdict: Is the 2009 Mitsubishi Raider a Good Pickup Truck?

Favorite truckI love my truck. I have honestly rode in some more luxurious trucks, some trucks that are more sporty, some that are more rugged, but this one is the one that fits my all around needs the most. It's lower to the ground, its got a lot of back seat room, and its a nice looking vehicle. I don't think it gets as good of gas mileage as some of these reviews say. I'm glad its paid off so I don't have to worry about the gas mileage any more. I love it and will probably drive it until I stop driving one day.
