The 2016 Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover SUV offering a balance of practicality and style. Part of the Edge's second generation (2015-present), it offers two-row seating and a spacious cargo area. Key trims include the SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport. Its popularity stems from its comfortable ride, available all-wheel drive, and attractive design. New, the 2016 Edge ranged from approximately $29,000 to $40,000+ depending on trim and options.
The Good

The 2016 Ford Edge boasts a comfortable ride and a stylish design that appeals to the senses. Its practical advantages include a spacious interior and available all-wheel drive for added security. A range of engine options provide adequate performance, while its competitive pricing offers good value for money.

The Bad

Some owners have reported issues with the MyFord Touch infotainment system in earlier models. Potential buyers should inspect the transmission for smooth shifting and be aware of potential issues with the climate control system. Check for water leaks into the cabin, a commonly reported problem, specifically with the sunroof.

What Problems Does the 2016 Ford Edge Have?

The 2016 Ford Edge has had some reported issues, though not widespread enough to be considered major. Common complaints include issues with the MyFord Touch/SYNC 3 infotainment system, such as freezing, slow response times, and connectivity problems. Some owners have also reported issues with the climate control system, including inconsistent temperatures and failure of the system. Water leaks into the cabin, particularly around the sunroof area, have also been reported. Regarding the transmission, some owners have experienced rough shifting or hesitation, though this is less common. Recalls for the 2016 Edge were issued for issues such as improperly welded seat frames and potential fuel line problems.
Long-term reliability concerns mainly revolve around the infotainment system's longevity and the potential for water leaks to cause electrical issues or mold growth. While the engine and transmission are generally reliable, regular maintenance is crucial. Prior to purchase, a thorough inspection, including a diagnostic scan and a test drive, is highly recommended to check for any potential problems. Checking the vehicle's recall history is also crucial to ensure any outstanding issues have been addressed.

How long will the 2016 Ford Edge last?

With good maintenance, a 2016 Ford Edge can reasonably be expected to reach 150,000-200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Long-term durability is generally good, especially for models with the 3.5L V6 engine, which is known for its reliability. Weaknesses over time might include wear and tear on suspension components, potential issues with the power liftgate (if equipped), and the aforementioned infotainment system problems. Regular fluid changes (oil, transmission, coolant) and timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires are crucial for maximizing longevity.
Positive Owner Reviews
Robert M.

Sarah L.
For the price, this car offers a lot of features. The infotainment system can be a little slow sometimes, but overall a good vehicle.
John P.

Negative Owner Reviews
Emily K.
The ride isn't as smooth as I expected. Handling feels a bit clunky, especially on winding roads.
Jessica R.
We've had some issues with the transmission slipping. It's been frustrating to deal with. Otherwise, a decent car.
Ashley T.
The engine feels a little underpowered when fully loaded with passengers and cargo. But otherwise a nice vehicle.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2016 Ford Edge comes with a decent array of built-in tech and safety features. Standard features include a rearview camera and Ford's SYNC infotainment system. Higher trims offer more advanced features like the MyFord Touch system with an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a premium audio system.
Driver-assistance features available (depending on trim level and options) include blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and a forward collision warning system with brake support.
Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a full suite of airbags. The 2016 Ford Edge received good crash-test ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The NHTSA gave it a 5-star overall safety rating, while the IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick.
Optional features included a panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, and a parking assist system. The upgraded infotainment system with navigation and enhanced voice control was also a popular option.

2016 Ford Edge Prices and Market Value

The 2016 Ford Edge had a starting MSRP of around $29,000, with higher trims like the Titanium and Sport reaching over $40,000 when new. As of late 2024, used market prices typically range from $13,000 to $20,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Edge has depreciated at a moderate rate, consistent with other vehicles in its class. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (mechanical and cosmetic), accident history, and trim level. Models with desirable options like leather seats, navigation, and all-wheel drive tend to hold their value better.

2016 Ford Edge Cost of Ownership

The 2016 Ford Edge is relatively economical to own. Insurance costs are average for its class. Fuel economy is decent, particularly with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. Maintenance costs are reasonable, with readily available parts and competent service technicians. Repair costs can vary, but are generally not excessive. Long-term ownership costs are manageable, making it a reasonably affordable choice, especially when compared to luxury SUVs. The reliability is good, but keeping up with preventive maintenance is necessary.

2016 Ford Edge Insurance

Insurance for a 2016 Ford Edge is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2016 Ford Edge Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2016 Ford Edge competes with the likes of the Nissan Murano, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. In terms of performance, the Edge offers a good balance with its engine options, especially the 2.7L EcoBoost in the Sport trim. The Murano prioritizes comfort and styling, while the Santa Fe and Sorento offer more seating capacity with their three-row options. The Grand Cherokee boasts superior off-road capability.
Feature-wise, the Edge offers a competitive set of technology and safety features. Reliability is comparable to its rivals, though some competitors have a slightly better track record. Price-wise, the Edge is generally competitive, often offering a better value proposition than the Grand Cherokee.
Alternatives to consider include the Nissan Murano for its stylish design and comfortable ride, the Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento for their added seating capacity and long warranty, or the Toyota Venza (if looking for a hybrid option). If off-road capability is a priority, the Jeep Grand Cherokee would be a better choice. Overall, the Edge remains a solid choice for those prioritizing comfort, style, and a good balance of features and performance.

The 2016 Ford Edge is ideal for individuals or small families seeking a comfortable, stylish, and well-rounded mid-size crossover SUV. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, provided it has been well-maintained and thoroughly inspected. The Titanium trim offers a good balance of features and value. The Sport trim is a good option for those prioritizing performance. Before purchasing, check the vehicle's history for any reported problems and consider having a pre-purchase inspection performed by a qualified mechanic. Models with the updated SYNC 3 infotainment system are preferred over the MyFord Touch due to improved usability. Look for models with a comprehensive service history.
