What Problems Does the 2020 Honda Passport Have?

While the 2020 Honda Passport is generally considered reliable, some owners have reported certain issues. A few complaints revolve around the 9-speed automatic transmission, with some experiencing occasional rough shifting or hesitation. Some individuals have also reported issues with the infotainment system, including glitches or slow response times. There have been some reports of issues with the automatic emergency braking system. Early models had some issues with the electronic parking brake malfunctioning.

It's crucial to check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website for any recalls related to the 2020 Passport. Recalls can address safety-related defects and are typically repaired free of charge by Honda. While there aren't widespread, major reliability concerns, potential buyers should be aware of these reported issues and have a pre-purchase inspection performed by a qualified mechanic to assess the specific vehicle's condition. Checking service records and confirming that any necessary maintenance has been performed is also recommended. Address any outstanding recalls before purchasing.

How long will the 2020 Honda Passport last?

With proper maintenance, the 2020 Honda Passport can easily exceed 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely servicing are crucial for longevity. The V6 engine is generally robust, but maintaining the 9-speed transmission is key. Watch for potential issues with the electronic systems as the vehicle ages. Rust can be a concern in colder climates, so regular washing and undercoating can help prevent corrosion. Overall, the Passport is expected to be durable with diligent care.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2020 Honda Passport comes standard with an 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are standard on EX-L and higher trims. The base Sport trim uses a smaller display. Higher trims offer navigation, a premium audio system, and a wireless phone charger.

Driver-Assistance and Safety Features (Honda Sensing):
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Other safety features include blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert (EX-L and above), and a multi-angle rearview camera. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2020 Honda Passport its Top Safety Pick award. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded it a 5-star overall safety rating. Overall, the 2020 Passport is well-equipped with technology and safety features, making it a safe and convenient choice.

2020 Honda Passport Prices and Market Value

The 2020 Honda Passport had a starting MSRP in the low $30,000s when new, with higher trims reaching the mid-$40,000s. Current used market prices typically range from the mid-$20,000s to low $30,000s, depending on condition, mileage, and trim. Depreciation is moderate, as Honda vehicles generally hold their value well. Factors affecting resale value include vehicle condition, mileage, service history, and the presence of desirable features like all-wheel drive and higher trim levels. Properly maintained Passports with clean titles command the highest prices on the used market. Low mileage examples fetch a premium.

2020 Honda Passport Insurance

Insurance for a 2020 Honda Passport is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2020 Honda Passport Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2020 Honda Passport competes with the Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Edge, and Nissan Murano. Compared to the 4Runner, the Passport offers better on-road handling and fuel economy, but the 4Runner is more capable off-road. Against the Grand Cherokee, the Passport provides a more spacious interior and comparable reliability. The Ford Edge offers similar features and performance, but the Passport often holds its value better. The Nissan Murano is more stylish but lacks the Passport's towing capacity.

Alternatives to consider include the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Telluride, which offer more features for the price. The Subaru Outback provides similar cargo space and standard all-wheel drive. Ultimately, the Passport excels in balancing on-road comfort, cargo space, and reliability. If off-road capability is a priority, the 4Runner or Grand Cherokee might be better choices. For value and features, the Kia Telluride is a strong contender. The Passport is a solid all-around choice for those prioritizing a comfortable and reliable mid-size SUV.

Ranks #215 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2020 Honda Passport a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2020 Honda Passport is a good choice for families and individuals seeking a reliable, spacious, and comfortable mid-size SUV. It's ideal for those who need ample cargo space and occasional light off-road capability. Whether it's worth buying depends on your priorities. A used 2020 Passport can offer excellent value, especially if it has been well-maintained. The EX-L trim strikes a good balance between features and price. While the newer models have updated infotainment, a 2020 Passport provides similar utility at a lower cost. Ensure a thorough inspection before purchasing to address any potential issues with the transmission or electronics. Overall, it's a worthwhile purchase for the right buyer.

Best SUV I have owned

Great build quality, comfortable especially for someone who is 6'5" like me. Typical Honda. Easy to drive and very smooth on the road. Just came out of Lemon Ford and wanted something reliable. Have owned for 7 months and has been perfect (so far). I have the Elite trim and it has every option available. I load it up for beach trips and have room to spare. Cannot wait for it to snow. One cold day I had my heated steering wheel and seats on. Super nice on cold days. Planning on keeping this one for a long time.
