The Good
The CX-7's main appeal is its performance; its turbocharged engine offers quick acceleration for enjoyable driving. Its stylish design is another draw. From a practical standpoint, it offers a decent amount of cargo space and comfortable seating. However, consider that reliability can be a concern. It offers good value for sporty driving dynamics.
The Bad
The 2010 Mazda CX-7's main weaknesses include potential turbocharger issues, especially in earlier models. Fuel economy isn't great, particularly with the turbocharged engine. Some owners have reported problems with the variable valve timing (VVT) actuator and timing chain. Regular maintenance is crucial to prevent costly repairs.

What Problems Does the 2010 Mazda CX-7 Have?
Timing chain stretch and failure of the variable valve timing (VVT) actuator are also relatively frequent, which can lead to serious engine problems if not addressed promptly. Oil leaks, particularly from the turbocharger lines and valve cover gasket, are also reported. Some owners have experienced issues with the direct injection fuel system.
Regarding recalls, it's important to check the NHTSA website for any open recalls specific to the VIN of the vehicle in question. While general recalls might be related to safety equipment or software, others could address some of the engine issues outlined above. Long-term reliability can be a concern if preventive maintenance isn't diligently performed. Regular oil changes with the correct synthetic oil, and addressing any unusual engine noises immediately, are crucial to mitigating potential problems. Check for rust, especially in areas with harsh winter conditions.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Higher trims offer more advanced tech. Entertainment features typically include a CD player, auxiliary input, and available Bose audio system. Some models include an optional navigation system, though it's dated by today's standards.
Driver-assistance features are limited compared to modern vehicles. Rear parking sensors were available on some trims. Blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning systems were not offered. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) should be checked for specific ratings. The CX-7 generally performed well in crash tests, but results can vary based on the specific test and model year. The 2010 model largely carried over safety features from previous years.
Optional features largely revolved around upgraded audio, leather upholstery, and convenience items like automatic climate control and a sunroof. The technology is relatively basic compared to modern cars, so buyers should adjust their expectations accordingly.

How Does the 2010 Mazda CX-7 Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
In terms of features, the CX-7 is generally comparable, although some rivals offered more advanced safety tech even in 2010. Price-wise, the CX-7 is now competitively priced on the used market, but the higher repair costs can offset the initial savings.
Alternatives worth considering are the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 for their superior reliability and fuel efficiency, if sporty handling isn't a top priority. A Mazda CX-5 (later model years) would be a better option within the Mazda family, offering improved fuel economy and reliability while retaining the sporty driving dynamics. If budget is a major concern, the Ford Escape can be a viable, although potentially less reliable, alternative.

Mazda 2010 cx7 would’ve killed meI bought a Mazda CX-7 from this dealer in December 2014, few months later I started hearing some cracking when making sharp turns which I ignored, and in 2017 Mazda called for a recall to fix the lower arms saying that is very risky to keep driving the car in such a condition, so I took it to dealer for the repairs, few months later the same problem came back and didn’t now how bad the problem is till now when I m trying to sell it, I took the car to the mechanic for the inspection before selling it, and he told me that I’m lucky I’m still alive because the front wheel could detach anytime and it’s loose and he said either the recall was done badly or the damage was already big when they did it, I don’t believe that Mazda could risk the life of the many people driving their cars on roads just like that, it is a big shame. Please for anyone who want to buy a car from Mazda be very careful specially the older cars. The Mazda vin number is JM3ER2W52A0349504

Excellent sporty SUV with AWDThe turbo charger had a big influence over my purchase decision and it proved worthy. It adds great get up and go to the great handling and responsiveness of a well built vehicle. The dealer offered 3 SUV models, CX-5, 7 & 9. The CX-5 didn't have any storage behind the second seat, and the CX-9 gave up too much fuel economy for the extra space. The CX-7 has room for the family and camping gear or whatever you have. I am very happy with my choice.

Tire wear. This was a very good vehicle until the 16V593000 lower control arm recall was done. We had no front tire side wearing until the recall was performed. Now it has been back to the dealer three times for the outer edge of the front tires grinding away. Each time the tires have been rotated and it has worn every tire that has been put on the front. All in about five thousand miles.
