The Good
The 2005 C-Class offers a comfortable ride and a prestigious badge, appealing to emotional buyers. Practically, it boasts solid German engineering, decent fuel efficiency (depending on the engine), and a relatively affordable entry point into the luxury market. While not always the most reliable, it delivers a refined driving experience and classic Mercedes-Benz styling.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2005 C-Class include electrical issues, particularly with the instrument cluster and malfunctioning sensors. Oil leaks are also a common concern. Suspension components can wear prematurely. Rust, especially in areas prone to salt, is another point to inspect carefully. Regular maintenance is crucial to mitigate these issues.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2005 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Have?
Another common concern is oil leaks, particularly from the valve cover gaskets and oil filter housing. These leaks can lead to engine damage if left unattended. Suspension components, such as control arm bushings and ball joints, are also known to wear out prematurely, requiring replacement. Rust is another area of concern, especially in regions where road salt is used during the winter. The undercarriage, wheel wells, and door panels are particularly susceptible.
Some model years, including 2005, have been subject to recalls related to fuel tank leaks and potential issues with the braking system. Check the NHTSA website for any outstanding recalls specific to the VIN of the vehicle you are considering. Overall, while the 2005 C-Class can offer a rewarding driving experience, potential buyers should be aware of these potential issues and factor in the cost of preventative maintenance and repairs.
How long will the 2005 Mercedes-Benz C-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern cars. Cruise control was standard, but more advanced features like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring were not available. Safety features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESP), and a suite of airbags, including front, side, and curtain airbags.
Optional safety features included Tele Aid, Mercedes-Benz's emergency assistance system. Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were generally good for the 2005 C-Class, providing reassurance for safety-conscious buyers. Keep in mind that safety technology has advanced significantly since 2005, so these ratings should be considered in that context. The W203 C-Class was considered a safe vehicle for its time, but modern cars offer a higher level of protection.

How Does the 2005 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Compare to Other Sedan?
Feature-wise, the C-Class was generally competitive, offering a comparable range of standard and optional equipment. However, the BMW 3 Series might have had a slight edge in terms of available technology.
In terms of reliability, the Lexus IS 300 is generally considered to be more reliable than the C-Class. The BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 can also have their share of maintenance issues.
Considering these factors, if reliability is a top priority, the Lexus IS 300 is a better alternative. If you desire a sportier driving experience, the BMW 3 Series is a good choice. For a balance of luxury, performance, and all-weather capability, the Audi A4 is worth considering. All options are viable depending on individual needs and priorities.

Find a good example, and you're all set.My first time owning a Mercedes while everyone warned me not to get one. Honestly I've used this car PRETTY rough, and it has held up better than my previous Daihatsu Copen, Civic 2014 and Accord CL7. It's a total workhorse, but alas, the parts really ARE expensive, ans servicing it is quite difficult as well. But all in all, its comfort is just impeccable and better than anything else I've ever drive in this price range. If you have a slightly higher budget for maintenance, I would 10/10 recommend you this car.

Nice looking design and better than the laterNice looking car, handling is amazing,&at 192 hp it is punchy For a base car(no sunroof) it is well equipped, nice stereo etc But it's a typical European car with "Electrical Gremlins" Recently the bottom ball joint broke while my wife was turning into a car park bay But overall the design is spot on,but i have been told by a Mercedes specialist, they are not designed to last, like the older 190E's So much plastic in them when you start looking around the car Also on the underside of the trunk lid, rust will start there Ours has,but not major to fix Mileage is only 145 kilometers so still good&will get the oil changed in the Kompressor next(vital i have been told)
