The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is a luxury four-door coupe, blending sleek design with Mercedes-Benz engineering. Introduced in 2004, the CLS pioneered the "four-door coupe" segment. The 2015 model year offered trims like the CLS400, CLS550, and the high-performance CLS63 AMG. New, prices ranged from approximately $66,000 to well over $100,000. Its distinctive, flowing roofline and luxurious interior made it a popular choice for buyers seeking style and sophistication.

The 2015 CLS-Class offers a compelling blend of performance and luxury. Its powerful engines deliver exhilarating acceleration. Comfort is paramount, with a refined interior and smooth ride. The striking design appeals to emotional buyers, while practical buyers appreciate its advanced technology and Mercedes-Benz reputation. Though reliability isn't its strongest suit, properly maintained models offer a satisfying experience.

The Bad

What Problems Does the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class often revolve around its complex electronics and air suspension system. Air suspension failures can be costly to repair, with components like air struts and compressors prone to wear and tear, especially in colder climates. Electrical issues, including malfunctions with the COMAND system, sensors, and lighting, are also common complaints. Oil leaks, particularly from the engine and transmission, are another area of concern. Specifically, the CLS550's turbocharged V8 can be susceptible to oil leaks as it ages.

Recalls for the 2015 model year have addressed issues such as potential fuel leaks, problems with the power steering system, and malfunctioning airbags. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN against the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) database to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.

Long-term reliability concerns include the durability of the engine mounts, the lifespan of the transmission, and the potential for rust in areas with heavy road salt usage. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and fluid flushes, is crucial to mitigating these risks. Pre-purchase inspections by a qualified mechanic specializing in Mercedes-Benz vehicles are highly recommended to identify potential problems before purchase.

How long will the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. However, longevity heavily depends on consistent maintenance habits. Long-term durability weaknesses often manifest in the air suspension system, electrical components, and potential for oil leaks. Preventative maintenance, such as regular fluid changes and addressing minor issues promptly, is crucial for maximizing its lifespan. Neglecting maintenance will significantly shorten its lifespan and increase repair costs.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class boasts a suite of built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features.

Tech & Entertainment: The COMAND system provides navigation, audio controls, and connectivity features. Standard features include Bluetooth, a premium sound system, and a central display screen. Optional features included a Harman Kardon Logic7 surround-sound system and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

Driver-Assistance: Standard features include a rearview camera and driver attention assist. Optional driver-assistance packages added features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control (Distronic Plus), and pre-collision braking (Pre-Safe Brake). Parking sensors and a surround-view camera system were also available.

Safety Features: Standard safety features encompass a comprehensive airbag system, anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESP), and traction control. The CLS-Class incorporates Mercedes-Benz's Pre-Safe system, which anticipates potential collisions and prepares the vehicle by tightening seatbelts and closing windows.

Crash-Test Ratings: The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class received good crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, specific ratings may vary depending on the model year and testing criteria. It's always best to consult official IIHS and NHTSA websites for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class ranged from approximately $66,000 for the CLS400 to over $100,000 for the CLS63 AMG. Current used market prices typically range from $20,000 to $40,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. The CLS-Class experiences significant depreciation, typical of luxury vehicles. Factors affecting resale value include maintenance history, mileage, accident history, and the presence of desirable options like driver-assistance packages. AMG models generally hold their value better than the base trims.

2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Cost of Ownership

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is a costly vehicle to own long-term. Insurance premiums are higher due to its luxury status and performance capabilities. Fuel costs can be significant, especially with the V8 engines. Maintenance and repair costs are also elevated, as parts and labor tend to be more expensive for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. While not economical, the CLS-Class offers a premium driving experience for those willing to bear the higher ownership costs. 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class competes with other luxury four-door coupes like the Audi A7, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, and Porsche Panamera. In terms of performance, the CLS63 AMG rivals the Panamera and M6 Gran Coupe, offering comparable acceleration and handling. Feature-wise, the CLS-Class provides a similar level of technology and luxury as its competitors.

However, the Audi A7 generally offers better reliability ratings. The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe might offer a slightly sportier driving experience, while the Porsche Panamera excels in overall performance but comes at a higher price point.

Alternatives to consider include:
  • Audi A7: For better reliability and a similar level of luxury.
  • BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe: For a sportier driving experience.
  • Porsche Panamera: For ultimate performance, but at a premium price.
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class: If you prioritize reliability and lower ownership costs, the E-Class sedan or coupe offers a similar level of luxury and technology at a lower price point with better overall dependability.
Overall, the CLS-Class provides a strong blend of style and performance, but buyers should be aware of its potential reliability issues and higher ownership costs compared to some competitors.

After three years, I can't part ways with my CLS

I am now 3 years into ownership of a 2018 CLS 550, which I purchased new. The motivating factor to buy was that this was to be the last year that the big twin turbo V8 would be offered and it is a wonderful powerplant. I have not had one moment of regret since the day I picked my car up at the dealership and this includes MB service, which has been superb. I have done a few minor upgrades to the car, such as adding CarPlay, eliminating the engine shutoff feature, adding a rear spoiler and swapping out the standard front grill for an AMG vertical bar version. I haven't owned a car for 3 years+ in 50 years of driving, but every time I start to look at replacing my CLS, I can't find a vehicle that I would be satisfied with over the CLS, without spending well north of $100k. I love the power, the handling, the luxury features and the gorgeous lines of this car. In my opinion, at its current used car price, if you could find a 2015-2018 model year, (pretty much the same car) with low mileage, its one of the best used cars available. Strongly recommend.

It's a civilized rocketship

Very well mannered and tame when you wanted it to be. Turned into a growling beats when you change drives modes. My edition was the AMG S Model with 585hp and drove itself with DISTRONIC activated.

Powerful yet Luxurious!!

This was my first luxurious MBZ. I bought in January of 2020 and I absolutely LOVE my car. The front of the car has an aggressive sporty but sleek and elegant look/feel. It drives well and turns on a dime.

At 6 months of ownership

After 6 months and 8000 miles this car still lights me up every time I get in it. I've had zero issues and am finally starting to realize the full potential of this amazing machine. It would be difficult now to go to driving anything else. Worth the wait and everything the reviews have said it to be. No buyers remorse here.

Nicest ride I've ever purchased

I've been in the market for a CLS for over a year. Bought a 2015 550 two weeks ago. Iridium Silver with Designo red interior, AMG sport package, premium 2 etc, etc. This thing turns heads. The twin turbo V8 has more than ample power and the interior feels like a bank vault with all the goodies. Mine is fully optioned and I am still getting to know it. An amazing vehicle and I've owned a few. This one tops the list.
