The Good
The 2007 Toyota Matrix offers exceptional reliability and fuel efficiency (practical appeal). Its hatchback design provides surprising cargo space and utility. It delivers adequate performance for daily driving, while some find the sporty XRS trim appealing (emotional appeal). Overall, it's a great value for a reliable and versatile vehicle.
The Bad
Weaknesses of the 2007 Toyota Matrix include its somewhat bland interior and potential for rust in colder climates. The base engine can feel underpowered, especially when fully loaded. Listen for unusual noises from the automatic transmission. Check for oil consumption issues on higher mileage examples. Overall comfort isn't the greatest either.

What Problems Does the 2007 Toyota Matrix Have?
Recalls for the 2007 Toyota Matrix included issues related to floor mat entrapment of the accelerator pedal and potential for faulty valve springs, which could cause engine stalling. It's crucial to verify that any applicable recalls have been addressed by a previous owner. Long-term reliability concerns primarily involve the aforementioned oil consumption and rust issues. Additionally, some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission, so it's wise to have it inspected before purchasing a used model. Early models (2003-2005) experienced similar issues, and some reports cite issues with the mass airflow sensor requiring replacement.

How Does the 2007 Toyota Matrix Compare to Other Hatchback?
Similar alternatives include the Toyota Corolla (for a sedan version of the Matrix) and the Pontiac Vibe (essentially the same car as the Matrix, but with slightly different styling). Depending on individual needs and preferences, the Mazda3 might be a better choice for those prioritizing driving dynamics and features, while the Civic Si appeals to those seeking a sportier experience. If reliability and practicality are paramount, the Matrix remains a strong contender.

Found a low mileage old Matrix...and love it!Comfy, a bit of road noise but overly reliable and the engine revs QUICK almost like a motorcycle. I have a manual trans and its actually a blast to drive what is in effect a corolla station wagon!

Good carReceived car from estate settlement. Minor issues easily corrected and have put almost 20,000 miles on it with no significant issues. Scheduled maintenance doesn’t reveal any hidden problems.

I loved My Little Matrix, I bought it back!Got this car last spring and loved it! Great on gas and hoped it would last me for a long time. It had 230,000 km on it and then all of a sudden the tranny went on it. Mine is a manual transmission and I thought it was the clutch at first. So I traded it in for a Nissan Altima, which was a nightmare. I wanted my baby back so bad. So a few months later, I saw the guy I traded it in to had it up for sale for more than I paid for it! I messaged him and told him I wanted to trade back. He did, thankfully and I couldn't be more happy to be reunited with the little car! Fun little car to drive. I had no other problem ever other than the tranny, which I hear is common for that year. Hope I have no more problems with the tranny though.

Dependable and very practical. Gets the job done. This is a practical car that drives and handles well. Much more fun than the Corolla on which it was based. A great capability is that the back seats when down provide a huge, completely flat cargo area behind the front seats. This area is covered in a very durable plastic. It has cargo tie-downs. You can even extend this area further by putting down the front passenger seat, which also has a durable back. This is why the car was sold as a CUV - compact utility vehicle.

extremely reliable car, lots of spaceThis car is in great condition. Good mileage, usually between 30-33 mpg. It's a hatchback - you can fold down back seats for a lot of storage space. Great for road trips! Easy to drive.
