The Good
The 2000 Volvo C70 offers a compelling blend of advantages. Performance-wise, the turbo engines provide ample power. It's known for Volvo's reputation for reliability and safety. Comfort is a strong suit, with supportive seats and a smooth ride. The stylish design appeals emotionally, while the reasonable used prices and decent fuel economy appeal practically.
The Bad
Known weaknesses of the 2000 Volvo C70 include potential issues with the convertible top mechanism (if applicable), electrical gremlins, and wear and tear on suspension components. What Problems Does the 2000 Volvo C70 Have?
While I do not have access to real-time recall data, it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any recalls specific to the 2000 Volvo C70. Long-term reliability concerns often involve the aging electrical systems and the potential for corrosion, particularly in areas with harsh winters. Regular maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, and inspections, is essential to mitigate these issues. Early C70 models (1997-1998) sometimes had issues with the electronic throttle body (ETB), but these issues were often addressed in later model years, though it's still something to consider when purchasing a 2000 model. Also, keep an eye on the PCV system; a clogged system can lead to oil leaks.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety was a major focus for Volvo. Standard safety features included dual front airbags, side-impact airbags, and whiplash protection system (WHIPS) in the front seats. Traction control was available as an option. Optional features included a sunroof, upgraded sound systems (like Dynaudio), and heated seats.
Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are important to consider. While I don't have real-time access to these ratings, it's recommended to consult these organizations' websites for specific crash-test data for the 2000 Volvo C70. Volvo generally had a strong reputation for safety, which was a key selling point for the C70.

How Does the 2000 Volvo C70 Compare to Other Convertible?
Price-wise, the C70 is often more affordable on the used market than some of its German rivals. If you prioritize a comfortable ride and distinctive styling, the C70 is a good option. However, if you value a sharper driving experience and don't mind potentially higher maintenance costs, the BMW 3 Series is a strong alternative. The Saab 9-3 is another similar option, offering quirky styling and turbocharged performance, but its reliability can also be questionable. An Audi A4 offers a good blend of luxury and performance, but can also be costly to maintain. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your individual priorities and budget.

Car gets unusually high compliments for its looksIt is 21 years old and it still gets compliments when the top is down but never when it is up. I look forward to warm sunny days now.

Nice car for the DIYLOoks current, nice styling, ride is good, and acceleration is fine with the LT coupe. Mileage 26 mpg. Good enough. If not 'joy ridden,' engine and tranny keep well. little things (mostly of brittle plastic) like window regulators, sunroof, steering bump stops (that stop wheels from rubbing wheel well) wear, and costly if mechanic or dealer, but if you can do it yourself, all are fine, needs a timing belt change every 100k, again, costly if mechanic's prices.

2000 C70My car gave me fits with the roof. Roof design is poor because it shakes I believe due to the coupe design. Nice acceleration. Heavy price tag for maintenance and brakes go around 20K. After 50 K good luck with repairs.

Recall IssuesCar Is great but forget trying to get anything fixed that Is a recall Issue. Check out recalls and then contact Volvo help and you will see what I am talking about. Recalls are listed as vehicle speed control on cars.com had It put on diagnostic and was told the same thing. Volvo help center said this was never an Issue. Just buy a cheaper car and when you have to fight to get something fixed you are saving money both ways. Had plans to buy a newer one but this has put me off Of Volvos.

Might be my favorite car ever!Bought my 2000 volvo c70 convertible used in June 2012. The car is beautiful. I get thumbs up from other drivers all the time. The minuses:The top sometmes has issues seating itself (especially if you park on an upward incline) so I look for a level surface. When top is up the back window makes for limited rear visibility and though the rear passenger compartment is adult useable getting in and out is a challenge. The plus's: The seat positions are fantastic you feel like you're in your easy chair, the car definitely has get up and go! The MPG city/highway is about 23. My daughter is learning to drive and loves this car. So I'm looking for the second one.
