It's available in regular, extended, and crew cab body styles, offering various bed lengths. Key trims include the Work Truck, LS, LT, and LTZ. New, the pricing ranged from approximately $20,000 to $40,000, depending on configuration and options. Its popularity stems from its robust design, powerful engine options, and reputation for dependability.

The Good

The 2010 Silverado 1500 offers a range of powerful engines, delivering solid performance for work and play. Its reputation for reliability appeals to practical buyers, while the truck's classic design and comfortable cabin offer an emotional connection. What Problems Does the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 often revolve around the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, particularly in the 5.3L V8 engines. This system, designed to improve fuel economy, is prone to causing excessive oil consumption due to faulty valve lifters. This can eventually lead to engine damage if not addressed. Transmission issues, such as hard shifting or slipping, have also been reported, particularly in vehicles with higher mileage or those that haven't received regular maintenance.

Another common concern is rust, especially in areas that use road salt during winter. The rocker panels and lower body panels are susceptible. Interior quality is another area of criticism, with some owners finding the plastics cheap and prone to wear.

Recalls for the 2010 Silverado 1500 have addressed issues such as potential brake light failure and problems with the steering shaft. It’s important to check the vehicle’s VIN with the NHTSA to see if all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability concerns center on the longevity of the AFM system and the potential for rust to compromise the vehicle’s structural integrity.

How long will the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 last?

A 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, with proper maintenance, can realistically achieve 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report exceeding this milestone. However, the key to longevity lies in consistent maintenance, including regular oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and addressing any issues promptly. Durability is generally good, but the AFM system, as mentioned earlier, is a potential weakness. Rust can also shorten the lifespan, especially in colder climates. Neglecting these issues can lead to premature failure and costly repairs.

Bought a cheap small sedan to get me by for a few years, and when it was finally time to upgrade I found myself a Silverado 1500. Take care of this truck and it will take care of you for a long time.
Kidrock69n
I've only had it a week but all seems great fully loaded to the max very comfortable , free onstar and Sirius xm radio sounds great on the Bose premium sound
Annihilator
I bought my 10 used with 13k miles on it. It now has 190k. Switched out the engine at 130k cause it was cheaper getting a new crate engine than the work to needed and was covered by extended warranty. I have had some customization done with the interior due to Harvy. After market air intake and exhaust. Looks great with stock paint (Metallic Black). Just keep up with maintenance. I use royal purple for oil changes I do myself every 6 months. Have had work done to suspension but due to 4" lift I added in 2019. Dogs love it with extend a bed. I tie them in up to it and let them get as much tongue in the wind as they can get.

We were under the miles for warranty but over the time when all 8 lifters and camshaft had to be replaced. Our personal mechanic pressed the dealership and they covered part of it,but it was still $1800 out of pocket for a known issue that should have been a recall with just about 50k miles. Now at 77k miles we had what appeared to be a leak in the transmission fluid line and the power steering fluid line. Just heard back from the dealership and the front crank seal is leaking and spewing oil. That is over $1000! Way too many costly repairs for a truck with this few of miles that has regular maintenance. Also have rust in wheel wells and on bumper.
Lerone
Gas tank defective , gas nozzle continue to affect the ability to insert gas without stopping every 70-80 cents. You cannot allow the automatic level to keep the gas handle engaged without it stopping every 70 - 80cents.
Raymccoy78
Great running truck with low miles plenty of power and leg room it does lack on saving gas of course but what fuel size truck doesnt right

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offered a range of tech, entertainment, and safety features that were fairly standard for its time. Base models typically included a basic AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims added features like a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, and an available navigation system. Bluetooth connectivity was an option on some trims.

In terms of driver-assistance features, the Silverado 1500 was relatively basic compared to modern trucks. It offered standard features like anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control. Optional features included rear parking sensors.

Safety features included front airbags, side-curtain airbags, and traction control. The 2010 Silverado 1500 received mixed crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA. Some configurations earned good scores in frontal crash tests, while others received lower marks. The IIHS gave the 2010 Silverado 1500 "Marginal" rating for roof strength. Crew cab models generally performed better in crash tests than regular or extended cab versions.

Key available options included OnStar, which provided services like automatic crash notification and roadside assistance. Overall, the tech and safety features of the 2010 Silverado 1500 were adequate for its time, but fall short of modern standards.

2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 had an MSRP ranging from approximately $20,000 to $40,000, depending on the trim level, cab configuration, and options. As of today's used market, prices typically range from $8,000 to $18,000, contingent on condition, mileage, and location. Depreciation has been significant due to age, but factors like low mileage, excellent condition, and desirable options (like the 6.2L V8 or four-wheel drive) can positively affect resale value. Trucks hold their value relatively well compared to other vehicles, and Silverados are generally in demand.

2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Cost of Ownership

Long-term ownership of a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 can be moderately costly. Insurance rates are typical for a full-size truck. Fuel costs depend heavily on engine choice and driving habits. Maintenance is relatively affordable, but potential AFM system issues and rust repairs can increase expenses. Overall, while generally reliable, unforeseen repairs could make it less economical than some newer, more fuel-efficient options.

2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Pickup Truck with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Compare to Other Pickup Truck?

The 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 competes with the Ford F-150, Dodge Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan. In terms of performance, the Silverado's 6.2L V8 engine offers comparable power to the F-150's top-tier engines. Feature-wise, the Silverado is generally on par with its competitors, although some may offer slightly more advanced tech for the model year.

Reliability is a mixed bag. The F-150, particularly those without the EcoBoost engine, often receives higher marks. The Toyota Tundra is renowned for its exceptional reliability, making it a compelling alternative if longevity is paramount. The Ram 1500 offers a more comfortable ride, but its reliability can be inconsistent.

Price-wise, the Silverado typically falls in the middle of the pack. If reliability is your top priority, a Toyota Tundra might be a better choice, though it may command a slightly higher price on the used market. If you value a blend of performance and features, the Ford F-150 is a strong contender. The Nissan Titan is another option, but its resale value is generally lower.

Ranks #228 Truck

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a Good Pickup Truck?

The 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a decent choice for those seeking a capable and relatively affordable used full-size truck. It's ideal for buyers who need a truck for occasional towing, hauling, or general utility purposes. However, it's worth buying only if a thorough inspection reveals no major issues, particularly with the AFM system and rust. Opting for a higher trim like the LT or LTZ provides more desirable features. Given its age, buying used is the only option. Consider a Tundra if reliability is critical or an F-150 for a balance of features and performance.

Upgraded to the truck I've always wanted.

Bought a cheap small sedan to get me by for a few years, and when it was finally time to upgrade I found myself a Silverado 1500. Take care of this truck and it will take care of you for a long time.

So far, so good.

The truck has what we need to pull our camper. It has the bigger v8 engine with heavy duty tow package. Can't wait to get out on the road.

Good looking but not dependable

2010 Silverado lt crew cab short box z71 5.3l I bought the truck with 64k on it, I got about 30k with minor problems ( power steering line o ring leaking, radio went out, had to clean the throttle body) after that the truck was no longer my pride and joy. I am a diesel mechanic so I maintained the truck routinely at 5k instead of the rediculous 10k that the oil life light would come on. The truck used oil from day one about a quart in-between oil changes. I had a lifter go out which resulted in camshaft damage. After a long weekend of replacing the camshaft and lifters I decided to turn off the afm system which I thought would prevent this from happening again. After that I had random spark plugs cracking the porcelain every so often started at 97k. This proceded for the rest of my time owning the vehicle I never ended up finding the problem. I ended up traded the truck in for a family car for my wife after starting to hear the lifters tap again at 156k. At this point I was just done with the truck. The good things I can say about it was it was a very good looking truck, rode very smooth and quiet in the cab. Very comfortable although I wish it would have had a telescoping steering wheel ( I'm 6' with long legs and short arms) Plenty of power even with 308 gears and 33s although the diablo sport tuner did wake the truck up. towing was good, the most capable bad road condition vehicle I have ever owned. stock sound system was good. All and all I would not recommend this truck to anyone. I have owned a 95 &94 Silverados with good luck but not the nnbs. My work has a 2009 with 310k on it with original motor and drivetrain with the lifters replaced once. My boss has a 2012 GMC with the same motor that's on its second motor at almost 300k so it's a common problem but some people get luckier than others. Sorry this is so long but hey hopefully if you finished reading this I saved you some frustration and money cheers.
