Cathleen V | March 31, 2025
The 2014 Toyota Sienna is a minivan, part of the third generation (2011-2020). Key trims include L, LE, XLE, and Limited. Known as the "Swagger Wagon" in earlier campaigns, it’s famed for its reliability and family-friendly features. The 2014 model offers a comfortable ride, spacious interior, and available all-wheel drive, a rarity in its class, making it popular for those in snowy climates. Pricing ranged from around $27,000 to $41,000 when new.
The Good

The 2014 Sienna boasts strong performance from its V6 engine and legendary Toyota reliability.
Its comfortable ride and spacious interior make family trips enjoyable. Practically, it offers excellent cargo space and available AWD. Emotionally, owners appreciate its reputation for dependability and the peace of mind it provides, along with its surprisingly sporty handling for a minivan.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2014 Sienna include higher fuel consumption compared to some rivals. Some owners have reported issues with the power sliding doors and the infotainment system can feel dated. Rust can be a concern in regions with heavy road salt use. Be sure to inspect the undercarriage and test all electronic features thoroughly before purchasing.

What Problems Does the 2014 Toyota Sienna Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 Toyota Sienna include issues with the power sliding doors, where they may become difficult to open or close. Some owners have also reported problems with the infotainment system freezing or malfunctioning. There have been recalls related to potential fuel delivery issues, which could cause the engine to stall. Some owners have reported premature tire wear. Another potential long-term reliability concern is rust, especially in areas where road salt is used extensively. While generally reliable, it's essential to check the vehicle's service history and conduct a thorough inspection before purchasing.
Specifically, some owners have noted that the automatic transmission can occasionally exhibit rough shifting. The early model years of this generation Sienna (2011-2013) had some reports of oil leaks, although this seems less prevalent in the 2014 model. Checking the vehicle history report for any documented maintenance or repairs related to these issues is recommended.

How long will the 2014 Toyota Sienna last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Toyota Sienna can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Average mileage would depend heavily on prior usage, but expect well-maintained examples to be around 150,000-200,000 miles by now. Long-term durability is a strong point, but regular oil changes, transmission fluid services, and coolant flushes are crucial. Weaknesses over time might include wear and tear on suspension components, bushings, and potential rust in colder climates. Power sliding door mechanisms may also require attention as the vehicle ages.

Buy this truck hoping to have trips to Mexico or the Caribbean, but it is indeed a very bad minivan... in the main is not comfortable, the service is very bad and in those 2 months I had the truck had an accident, whereupon the minivan has a serious problem with the security I have I bought a Honda Odyssey and it is the best of the best.
Alex in Los Angeles
I leased this car three month ago, last week I found left front fog light fell off. I went to car dealer for replace it. They said I have to pay for $500.00 dollar even though car is still in warrantee. I found other Car maintenance guy, I spent $200 dollar and he told me Toyota front fog light design is defected. there is no one screw to connect to car body, it just used plastic hooker to stuck to the car body, and plastic is very easy to be broken. this is why my fog light fall off. Never buy any car from Toyota. Car maker's policy is lower cost and never consider quality.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Toyota Sienna offers a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard features include antilock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags. Higher trims offer features like a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Entertainment features include a standard audio system with a CD player and auxiliary input. Higher trims offer a touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, and a rear-seat entertainment system with a DVD player.

Driver-assistance features are limited compared to modern vehicles, but the Sienna offered optional features like parking sensors and adaptive cruise control on higher trims.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) are generally good. The 2014 Sienna received a "Good" rating in most crash tests. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) awarded it a 4-star overall safety rating. Optional features enhanced safety but the base model lacked advanced driver aids.

2014 Toyota Sienna Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Toyota Sienna ranged from approximately $27,000 to $41,000 depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $12,000 to $22,000, contingent on condition, mileage, and trim. The Sienna depreciates at a moderate rate, better than some rivals, due to Toyota's reputation for reliability. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, maintenance history, accident history, and the presence of desirable features like AWD or the rear-seat entertainment system. Siennas in excellent condition and with lower mileage command higher prices.

2014 Toyota Sienna Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Toyota Sienna generally has moderate ownership costs. Insurance premiums are typically average for a minivan. Fuel costs can be higher than some rivals, especially with the AWD model. Maintenance is relatively affordable due to Toyota's reliable engineering. Repair costs are also generally reasonable, with parts readily available. Overall, the Sienna is not the most economical minivan to own, but its reliability helps to offset some of the higher fuel consumption costs. Regular preventative maintenance is key to keeping long-term costs down.

2014 Toyota Sienna Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Toyota Sienna is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Minivan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Toyota Sienna Compare to Other Minivan?

The 2014 Toyota Sienna competes with minivans like the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Town & Country (now Chrysler Pacifica), and Dodge Grand Caravan. In terms of performance, the Sienna's V6 engine is comparable to the Odyssey's, offering similar acceleration. However, the Sienna has the unique advantage of available AWD, which its rivals lack. Features are comparable across the board, although specific trims may offer slightly different options.

Reliability is where the Sienna shines, often considered more reliable than the Chrysler/Dodge offerings. The Honda Odyssey is also known for its reliability, but some argue the Sienna has a slight edge. In terms of price, the Sienna is typically positioned in the middle of the pack.

Alternatives? If AWD is a must-have, the Sienna is the clear choice. The Honda Odyssey is a strong contender if you don't need AWD, offering similar features and reliability. The Chrysler Pacifica (if you're looking at newer models) offers a more modern interior and features, but may not match the Sienna's long-term reliability. The Dodge Grand Caravan is a budget-friendly option but lacks the refinement and features of the Sienna.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Toyota Sienna a Good Minivan?

The 2014 Toyota Sienna is an ideal minivan for families seeking reliability, practicality, and available all-wheel drive. It's a solid choice if you prioritize dependability and a comfortable ride. Whether it's worth buying depends on the price and condition of the used vehicle. Look for models with a clean maintenance history and no accident damage. The XLE trim offers a good balance of features and value. If AWD is not required, the Honda Odyssey is also a strong contender. Avoid neglecting maintenance, as this will affect long-term durability. Pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is recommended.

I'm 19 and just bought a 2014 Sienna with 188000 miles on

I'm 19 and just bought a 2014 Sienna with 188000 miles on it. The previous owner took good care of the car, and there are only 2 parts that need to be replaced. the paint does have lots of tiny chips all over, but it is pretty high mileage so its to be expected. I'm also a technician at Toyota so I got to check it out prior to buying it. There is not a single leak anywhere on the car! that's impressive for any engine. Also would like to note the V6 (2gr-FE) is top 3 most reliable engines Toyota has ever made, and the simplicity of a 2014 vs a new car greatly reduces maintenance costs, even for a 10 year old car. Diagnosis is much simpler and there is way less going on so the work itself is cheaper too. I highly recommend and high mileage Toyota that you can see the service history for and the owner took good care of it. My sienna may have 188k right now, but I'm confident I will make it to 300k without any major problems, and 400k is very doable. Just remember no matter what it is a USED car, and it is inherently going to have more problems than a new car. I payed 9000 dollars closing for my 2014 Sienna SE with 188k. I hope it will be a very well spent 9k.

Stylish and reliable

This is the best car I have ever owned. My SE has 152,000 miles on it and still runs and drives like a dream. It’s comfortable, reliable, it handles well in all types of weather (I refer to it as a tank when it snows), and I’ve got plenty of room to haul kids and their gear around. The best part? It’s stylish and I don’t feel like a dorky mom driving it. Honestly, you really can’t go wrong with a Toyota.

After a 100k miles, it’s by far the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. All previous Toyotas, while great, pale in comparison to the 2014. Great family vehicle!!

Such an upgrade

I love the sporty look of this van. It accommodates our whole family and has great suspension. Super comfortable. Only drawback is the lack of Stow and Go seating (which we had on our old Dodge Caravan). I do love how easy the back seats fold down though!
