The 2007 Nissan Sentra is a compact sedan, part of the sixth-generation Sentra produced from 2007 to 2012. Key trims included the base S, fuel-efficient FE+, sporty SE-R, and luxurious SL. It stood out due to its increased size compared to previous generations, offering more interior space and a comfortable ride. New pricing ranged from approximately $14,000 to $20,000. It's popularity stemmed from its reliability and practicality.

The SE-R trim offers a sporty driving experience, adding some emotional appeal. Overall, the Sentra provides a solid value proposition as an affordable and dependable compact car.

What Problems Does the 2007 Nissan Sentra Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2007 Nissan Sentra often revolve around the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Some owners have experienced CVT failure, requiring costly replacements. Symptoms include slipping, hesitation, and unusual noises. The 2.0-liter engine can sometimes suffer from excessive oil consumption. There have also been reports of issues with the electronic power steering, which can lead to a loss of power assist.

Recalls for the 2007 Sentra have addressed issues such as potential fuel leakage due to faulty fuel tank components. Checking the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for specific recalls is crucial before purchasing.

Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the CVT's potential for failure. Regular maintenance, especially CVT fluid changes, is essential to prolong its lifespan. Rust can also be a factor in areas with salted roads. The engine mounts and suspension components may also require replacement over time. Paying close attention to the vehicle's service history and conducting a thorough inspection can help mitigate potential problems.

How long will the 2007 Nissan Sentra last?

A well-maintained 2007 Nissan Sentra can reasonably reach 200,000 miles or more. Years of service often extend beyond 15 years with diligent care. However, longevity heavily depends on maintenance habits. The CVT is a significant weakness; regular fluid changes are vital. Rust prevention is also critical, especially in colder climates. Engine components, like belts and hoses, will require replacement, and suspension parts can wear over time. Watch out for oil leaks and address them promptly to extend engine life. Neglecting maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan.

This car I met all of my needs. Plenty of regular legroom, plenty of space in the trunk, parts are cheap to fix. I would buy this car right now again if I could

You get what you pay for. Not the most comfortable thing in the world but still will get you from point A to point B. Little to no maintenance required.

I have had this car for 5 years... I like the way it drives, BUT it has 131K miles and now CVT is out! Why bother with CVTs if it won't last long!?!?!?! I like Nissans until now.... I am considering a different model now! Not pleased at all.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Nissan Sentra offered a relatively basic set of tech and entertainment features for its time. Standard models included a basic AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims like the SL offered optional upgrades like a premium Rockford Fosgate audio system. Navigation was not a commonly available option for this model year.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) and tire pressure monitoring were available. Stability control (Vehicle Dynamic Control - VDC) was optional on some trims.

Safety features included front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags.

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally showed good performance. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings varied depending on the specific test, with some areas receiving "Good" ratings and others receiving lower scores. It's important to consult both NHTSA and IIHS reports for specific crash-test data. Remember, the safety technology is dated compared to newer cars. The SE-R models also include larger brakes for enhanced stopping power.

2007 Nissan Sentra Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Nissan Sentra ranged from approximately $14,000 for the base S trim to around $20,000 for the fully-equipped SL or SE-R models. Current used market prices typically range from $3,000 to $7,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Sentra has depreciated significantly over time, which is typical for compact cars. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, mechanical condition (especially the CVT), accident history, and overall cosmetic appearance. Models with documented maintenance history and in good condition command higher prices. The SE-R trims may hold their value slightly better due to their sporty appeal.

2007 Nissan Sentra Cost of Ownership

The 2007 Nissan Sentra is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel consumption is reasonable, especially for the 2.0-liter engine. Maintenance costs are generally low, with readily available and affordable parts. However, potential CVT repairs can be a significant expense. Regular maintenance, including oil changes and fluid checks, is crucial to minimize long-term repair costs. Overall, the Sentra offers affordable transportation, but budgeting for potential CVT issues is wise.

2007 Nissan Sentra Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Nissan Sentra is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Nissan Sentra Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2007 Nissan Sentra competed with the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, and Ford Focus. Compared to the Civic and Corolla, the Sentra's reliability is generally considered slightly lower, especially concerning the CVT. The Mazda3 offered a sportier driving experience, while the Focus provided a more budget-friendly option. In terms of features, the Sentra was competitive but didn't necessarily stand out. Its interior space was a strong point.

The Corolla is often recommended as a more reliable alternative, though it may lack the Sentra's interior space. The Mazda3 offers better handling and driving dynamics if performance is a priority. The Honda Civic is a well-rounded competitor with a strong reputation. The Hyundai Elantra of the same era can be a similar alternative with a good value proposition. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities. If reliability is paramount, the Corolla is a better bet. If a sporty driving experience is desired, the Mazda3 is preferable. The Sentra is a decent option if interior space and affordability are key concerns.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Nissan Sentra a Good Sedan?

The 2007 Nissan Sentra is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a spacious and relatively comfortable compact car. It's worth buying *used* if a thorough inspection reveals a well-maintained vehicle with no signs of CVT issues. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended. Avoid models with a history of CVT problems or neglect. The SL trim offers more features, but the base S trim can be a good value if you only need basic transportation. If reliability is your top priority, explore alternatives like the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. Consider the SE-R for a sportier experience, but be aware of potential maintenance costs. Overall, a 2007 Sentra can be a decent buy under the right circumstances, especially if priced attractively and carefully inspected.

Takes a lickin? and keeps on tickin!

I bought my 07 Sentra back in 2010 preowned with 54k miles on it. As of 7/1/18 I have 179,986 miles on it and still running strong! It is a base model 2.0 that didn?t have anything fancy aside from killer speakers and you couldn?t tell it was running when it was on. As far as repairs go, only one issue was major and it was a factory recall and Nissan covered it 100% - I believe the 07-09 were affected with an overheating transmission, so they installed a cooling unit and the service would have been $2200 had it not been covered. So if you own one and start to lose power and it starts to whine on acceleration, take her in to Nissan to have the cooling unit installed. Other than that, everything else was my fault! I spun it out twice, curbed it a few times (Ice and snow), installed a cold air intake and immediately hydro locked it (about 50k miles ago) had new gaskets, plugs, boots etc replaced. I jumped it hitting a bridge too fast and blew-out the passenger front end and rear passenger wheel bearing. I just finally replaced the shocks and struts and will be doing the cv axles just because. It still runs great! Lower mpg after the hydro lock (about 26-30mpg now) but I won?t be getting rid of it any time soon. Looking forward to another 100k plus out of it! And more than likely when it comes time for a new car, I?ll be getting a brand new Sentra with all the bells and whistles.
