What Problems Does the 2006 Honda Accord Have?

The 2006 Honda Accord is generally reliable, but some issues are frequently reported. Transmission problems, particularly in the V6 models with automatic transmissions, are a common concern. This can manifest as slipping or rough shifting. Oil consumption issues are also noted in some engines, requiring more frequent oil checks and top-offs.

Premature brake wear is another frequently mentioned problem, often requiring more frequent brake pad replacements. Rust can be a significant concern, especially in areas with heavy road salt usage during winter. Check the undercarriage, wheel wells, and lower body panels for signs of rust. Electrical issues, such as problems with power windows and door locks, are occasionally reported.

Recalls for the 2006 Accord may include issues related to airbags. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to verify if all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability is generally good, but regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly are essential to ensure the vehicle's longevity.

How long will the 2006 Honda Accord last?

With good maintenance, a 2006 Honda Accord can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report 15-20 years of service. Key to longevity is consistent oil changes, timely transmission servicing (especially for automatics), and addressing rust prevention. Weaknesses over time include potential for increased oil consumption, wear on suspension components, and deterioration of interior plastics and upholstery. Proper care can mitigate these issues.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2006 Honda Accord offered a decent array of tech for its time. Standard entertainment features included an AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims like the EX and EX-L offered upgraded sound systems, and the EX-L could be equipped with an optional navigation system. Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern cars, with cruise control being a notable inclusion on LX and higher trims.

Safety features included standard front airbags and antilock brakes (ABS). Side airbags were optional on some trims. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) was not standard but was available on some models, which enhances safety by helping to prevent skidding.

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally awarded the 2006 Honda Accord high marks for frontal and side impact protection. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also gave the Accord good ratings in its crash tests. The available safety features combined with the strong crash-test performance contribute to the overall safety of the 2006 Accord.

2006 Honda Accord Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2006 Honda Accord ranged from approximately $18,000 to $28,000 depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices typically range from $3,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Accord has depreciated significantly due to its age, but its strong reputation for reliability helps it retain value better than some competitors. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, maintenance history, and the presence of desirable options like leather seats and navigation. The trim level (EX, EX-L) also impacts the price.

2006 Honda Accord Cost of Ownership

The 2006 Honda Accord is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel costs are reasonable, especially with the 4-cylinder engine. Maintenance is relatively affordable, with readily available parts. However, potential transmission repairs on the V6 models can be costly. Overall, the Accord's reliability and fuel efficiency make it a cost-effective choice for long-term ownership, assuming regular maintenance is performed.

2006 Honda Accord Insurance

Insurance for a 2006 Honda Accord is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2006 Honda Accord Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2006 Honda Accord's key rivals included the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, and Mazda 6. In terms of reliability, the Accord was generally on par with the Camry, both enjoying excellent reputations. The Altima offered a sportier driving experience, but lagged slightly in reliability. The Mazda 6 was also sportier and more stylish, but not as reliable as the Accord or Camry.

In terms of features, the Accord offered a competitive range of amenities for its class. Price-wise, it was generally similar to the Camry and Altima. Performance-wise, the V6 Accord provided ample power, while the 4-cylinder offered good fuel economy.

Alternatives to the 2006 Honda Accord include the Toyota Camry, which offers similar reliability and features, and the Mazda 6, for those seeking a sportier driving experience. For buyers prioritizing reliability and practicality, the Accord and Camry are excellent choices. If a sportier drive is desired, the Mazda 6 or Nissan Altima might be considered, but with some compromise in reliability compared to the Honda and Toyota.

Final Verdict: Is the 2006 Honda Accord a Good Sedan?

The 2006 Honda Accord is an ideal choice for buyers seeking a reliable, practical, and fuel-efficient mid-size car. It's well-suited for families, commuters, and anyone prioritizing dependability. Whether it's worth buying depends on the condition and price of the used vehicle. A well-maintained Accord with a thorough inspection is a good investment. The EX or EX-L trims offer desirable features. Due to age, buying new is not an option. Pay close attention to transmission health, rust, and oil consumption before purchasing. If these factors check out, the 2006 Honda Accord remains a solid used car choice.

Excellent Car

I currently own a 2006 Accord, Value Package, 4 cylinder, automatic. Bought the car in 2015 with 263k miles, from a lady who purchased it brand new and serviced it at Honda on time, everytime. She only sold it because she needed a SUV to tow around her grandkids. Today, I accomplished a milestone with my Accord. 400k miles!!!! The only major issue apart from regular maintenance, tires and brakes, oil changes ect, was the power steering pump went out on me at 377119. Everything works the way it should, car is quiet, fuel efficient and always reliable. Will purchase a new truck in another year or two, but I'll just let my Accord rest, I'd never trade it, it'll serve as my back up. People are amazed when I tell them the milage, they physically have to look to believe, based on how the car runs, sounds, drives and looks. Well done HONDA! A job well done.

Very reliable and comfortable

I thoroughly love driving the accord. It was roomy, comfortable, and drove extremely smoothly. It was a perfect for my family, at the time I owned it. I went to a smaller model because I no longer needed the extra room.

THE MOST FUN I'VE HAD DRIVING A CAR

I bought this used and it had over 100,000 miles. It is a 6cyl with 6 speed manual transmission and it will get up and fly. There are some s curves where i live and it's a blast to go into them at 60 mph or more. For the size of the car it hangs the curves tight to the road. I can be in 6th gear on the highway and if i need to accelerate it stills has more power. It has 160 i believe on the speedometor and i am willing to bet it will do every bit of it. Haven't gone that fast yet. Just a truly fun driving experience. I am having some issues but it's got close to 200,000 miles on it. Doesn't leak or burn oil. I'm redoing the front end and motor mounts, but love this car so much i am going to hang onto it and replace things slowly til it's all done.
