The Honda Odyssey is a minivan that has been a family favorite for years. The 2019 model continues this tradition, offering practicality and comfort. Key trims include LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. New pricing ranged from approximately $30,000 to $48,000. It stands out due to its spacious interior, Magic Slide second-row seats (on select trims), and reputation for reliability, making it a popular choice for families needing ample passenger and cargo space.
The Good

The 2019 Honda Odyssey offers a blend of performance and practicality. Its strong V6 engine delivers confident acceleration. Renowned Honda reliability provides peace of mind. The comfortable and spacious interior with available entertainment features appeals to families. It's a solid value proposition, balancing features and price, making it a smart and enjoyable choice.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2019 Honda Odyssey include infotainment system glitches, particularly with the touchscreen interface. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic sliding doors. Keep an eye out for transmission problems, though less common. Also, be aware of potential paint issues on some models. Always obtain a pre-purchase inspection.

What Problems Does the 2019 Honda Odyssey Have?

The 2019 Honda Odyssey, while generally reliable, has experienced some frequently reported problems. One area of concern is the infotainment system. Some owners have reported glitches, slow response times, and connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The automatic sliding doors have also been a source of complaints, with some owners experiencing malfunctions or failures.

There have been some recalls issued for the 2019 Odyssey. These have included issues related to the fuel pump which could fail and cause the engine to stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information specific to your VIN. Early model years of the Odyssey (prior to 2019) had some transmission issues, though these are less prevalent in the 2019 model, it's still wise to monitor for any unusual shifting or noises.

Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complex electronics and features. The more features a vehicle has, the greater the potential for something to fail down the line. Routine maintenance and addressing any minor issues promptly can help mitigate these concerns. Regular servicing of the transmission is highly recommended. It's advisable to check for any technical service bulletins (TSBs) related to the 2019 Odyssey to stay informed about potential issues and recommended fixes.

How long will the 2019 Honda Odyssey last?

With good maintenance, a 2019 Honda Odyssey can easily reach 200,000 miles or more, potentially providing 10-15 years of service. Proper oil changes, timely transmission servicing, and addressing minor issues promptly are crucial. Long-term durability often depends on how well the vehicle is maintained. Potential weaknesses over time might include wear and tear on suspension components, degradation of rubber seals and hoses, and potential issues with the electronic components. However, consistent care can minimize these issues and extend the vehicle's lifespan.

My family of 6 has had this van from coast to coast and it has been a dream, haven't had one problem. We keep it maintained from the dealership, no electrical or mechanical problems at all. Highly recomended

I saw a 2019 Honda Odyssey in the website of doc Paramus Honda in NJ and I saw the vehicle Saturday and by Monday Marc García and Wael were able to work with me and my husband to take that vehicle home even BEFORE seeing it. They were able to not let us go without knowing everything we need to know to make a decision. We are very thankful for all your help. This vehicle is a big asset and has more than expected and you guys made it possible, thanks!

This is the best car that I ever purchased. It's roomy enough for a family of 8 and we may be able to add one more. It is very reliable and I couldn't be more happy, I wish Honda offered certain upgrades out of pocket like the media package.

This 2019 has been my worst nightmare from day one and no one will help me. I been begging for help since the day after i got it. About 13 recalls total and unnecessary breaking when it decides to. And the entertainment recall was suppose to be fixed but yet my 4 year old saying its glitching...smh

We likely have a lemon but this car has nothing but issues. I've had it for less than 2 months less than 2000 miles and it's been in for “repair” a half dozen times. Each time of course for the dealership (Mueller Honda of Highland Park IL) to tell us there is nothing wrong with the car. Or we are given some bandaid “fix”. I would avoid this car and definitely avoid Mueller Honda.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Honda Odyssey boasts a range of tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard on all trims is the Honda Sensing suite, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Collision Mitigation Braking System. Higher trims offer blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors. The infotainment system includes an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration on EX and higher trims.

Entertainment features include an available rear entertainment system with a 10.2-inch screen, Blu-ray player, and HDMI input. CabinWatch and CabinTalk features allow the driver to monitor and communicate with rear passengers. The HondaVac integrated vacuum cleaner is available on the Touring and Elite trims. Optional features include a navigation system and a premium audio system.

In terms of safety, the 2019 Honda Odyssey received excellent crash-test ratings from both the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). It earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick. Standard safety features include multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. 2019 Honda Odyssey Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Honda Odyssey is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Honda Odyssey Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2019 Honda Odyssey competes with the Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Sienna, and Kia Sedona. In terms of performance, the Odyssey's V6 engine is comparable to the Sienna and Pacifica. The Pacifica offers a plug-in hybrid variant, which the Odyssey lacks. Feature-wise, the Odyssey and Pacifica are well-equipped, with the Pacifica boasting the Stow 'n Go seating. The Sienna is known for its standard all-wheel drive, which the Odyssey doesn't offer. Reliability is a strong suit for both the Odyssey and Sienna, while the Pacifica has had some reliability concerns. The Kia Sedona is generally more affordable but may lack some of the advanced features and refinement of the others. Price-wise, the Odyssey falls in the middle of the pack.

Alternatives include the Chrysler Pacifica for its innovative seating and available hybrid powertrain. The Toyota Sienna is a solid choice for its reliability and available AWD. If budget is a primary concern, the Kia Sedona is worth considering. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual needs and priorities. The Odyssey stands out for its balance of features, performance, and reliability, making it a strong contender in the minivan segment.

Ranks #223 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Honda Odyssey a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2019 Honda Odyssey is an excellent choice for families needing a spacious, reliable, and feature-rich minivan. It's particularly well-suited for those who prioritize comfort, safety, and practicality. Whether it's worth buying depends on individual needs and budget. A used 2019 Odyssey can offer great value, especially if it has been well-maintained. Opting for EX or higher trims provides access to desirable features like Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Honda Sensing. Before buying, ensure a thorough inspection to address potential issues like infotainment glitches or sliding door problems. Overall, it’s a worthwhile purchase for the right buyer.

Buyer beware.

Buyer beware. We purchased a 2019 EX-L w/res/navigation with 20k miles on it. We specifically got it for the tv because of having kids. By 32k miles, the tv stopped working. Honda wanted a ton of money to fix the tv. We said forget it. Then, approx 50k miles, the AC went out in the summer. We did pay to have that fixed. Next, at 74k miles, the engine had to be replaced. We didn't even put 55k miles on the vehicle in 2.5 years and the engine had to be replaced! After replacing the engine, we had complete emissions failure (not exactly sure what that means, but we had to have it towed). Even with the new engine under warranty, we had to pay to have that fixed. Now, right when the second engine finished it's warranty, we're having another emission's failure. We paid too much for this van to be putting this much money into constantly repairing it! Done with Honda!

EF9 Transmission failures and camera failures price this

EF9 Transmission failures and camera failures price this out of anyone's comfortable range for maintenance. Buy extended warranties and pray you don't have any issues.

If your car dies you can not put this vehicle in neutral

If your car dies you can not put this vehicle in neutral to push it or to tow it!! This could put you in a very dangerous or like me cause a tow service to have to literally drag your vehicle out of your garage. The car was barely 5 years old and we had to spend $1000 replacing the computer system. We recently discovered a pool of water under the carpet in the back of the vehicle. Apparently this is a very common problem due to a faulty part Honda has put on this model. It cost us hundreds of dollars and after days of fans and a shop vac I still can't get all the water out. Do yourself a favor go with Toyota or a different year Oddsey, Honda really dropped the ball on this one!!

Buyer beware this model is a lemon!

Every car that I've ever owned has been a Honda. From Accords, civic and 2 Odysseys. The 2019 is by far the biggest lemon I've ever owned! The first week I had the car the AC went out. The AC does not work as well as it did in previous model Odyssey. The Blue Tooth and Apple car play is always glitchy and not reliable. The blue tooth was awesome in previous model. Now there seems to be an electrical issue and unsafe to drive. Having it towed! The indicator lights are flashing, the sliding doors not working, the locks continually lock while driving and not pushing button, the car is jerking forward and back. Every Honda I've ever owned has been reliable and needed minimal maintenance. This Odyssey is by far the worst Honda I've ever owned!!! Anytime people ask me about my van I warn them not to buy a 2019! It's only 3 years old - ridiculous! What happened to your brand and reliability Honda??!! Worst car/van ever!

Best service and price

I saw a 2019 Honda Odyssey in the website of doc Paramus Honda in NJ and I saw the vehicle Saturday and by Monday Marc García and Wael were able to work with me and my husband to take that vehicle home even BEFORE seeing it. They were able to not let us go without knowing everything we need to know to make a decision. We are very thankful for all your help. This vehicle is a big asset and has more than expected and you guys made it possible, thanks!

very happy with my Odessey

I needed to get a van in order to accommodate a lift for my mobility scooter. I have been very happy with this van in every way. It is comfortable, love the heated seats and the ride is very smooth. The only item I would change would to be to make the arm rest longer. That is honestly the only "complaint" I have! I've had this van since May of 2019. I made frequent 1,000 mile round trip drives to see my very elderly mother and never had a worry about the reliability of my vehicle. Very satisfied!

Best Car Purchase Ever

This is the best car that I ever purchased. It's roomy enough for a family of 8 and we may be able to add one more. It is very reliable and I couldn't be more happy, I wish Honda offered certain upgrades out of pocket like the media package.
