What Problems Does the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Have?

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been subject to several recalls, addressing issues ranging from electrical problems to potential rollaway risks. Frequently reported problems include issues with the Uconnect infotainment system, which can experience glitches and freezes. Electrical problems extending to the power windows and door locks have also been noted. The air suspension system, particularly on Overland and Summit trims, can be prone to failure, leading to costly repairs. Some owners have reported issues with the diesel engine's emissions system. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of the vehicle's electronics and the potential for increased maintenance costs as the vehicle ages. Specific recalls for the 2015 model year addressed concerns about wiring harnesses, unintended acceleration, and fuel leaks. Staying updated on recall information and performing regular maintenance are crucial for mitigating potential issues and ensuring long-term reliability.

How long will the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee can reasonably be expected to reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or provide 10-15 years of service. However, longevity heavily depends on maintenance habits. Regular oil changes, timely fluid flushes, and proactive repairs are essential. Weaknesses that may emerge over time include the aforementioned electrical issues, air suspension problems, and potential wear on drivetrain components, especially with frequent off-road use. Rust can become a concern in regions with harsh winters and road salt.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard on lower trims is the Uconnect 5.0 infotainment system with a touchscreen display. Higher trims boast the Uconnect 8.4 system with a larger touchscreen, navigation, and connected services. Entertainment options include satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports. Optional driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.

Safety features include antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and multiple airbags.

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally awarded the 2015 Grand Cherokee four or five stars overall. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave it a "Good" rating in most crash tests, with some variations depending on the specific test and model year updates. The Summit trim often includes additional safety tech as standard. Remember to verify safety ratings specific to the build date of the vehicle in question.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Prices and Market Value

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee had a starting MSRP around $30,000, with higher trims like the Summit and SRT reaching upwards of $65,000 when new. Current used market prices vary significantly based on mileage, condition, and trim level, generally ranging from $12,000 to $25,000. Depreciation is moderate for this class. Factors affecting resale value include maintenance history, accident-free status, low mileage, and desirable features like the V8 engine or four-wheel drive. The SRT trim typically holds its value better due to its performance appeal.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cost of Ownership

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee can be moderately costly to own. Insurance rates are average for its class. Fuel costs can be high, especially with the V8 engine. Maintenance is generally moderate, but repairs, particularly for electrical or air suspension issues, can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on maintenance and repair needs, but it's generally not the most economical option in its segment due to potential repair bills and fuel consumption.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee competes with models like the Toyota 4Runner, Ford Explorer, Nissan Murano, and Honda Pilot. Compared to the 4Runner, the Grand Cherokee offers a more refined ride and a wider range of engine options, but the 4Runner boasts superior off-road capability and a stronger reputation for reliability. Against the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee provides a more upscale interior and a more rugged image. The Murano offers better fuel economy but lacks the Grand Cherokee's off-road prowess and towing capacity. The Pilot excels in practicality and passenger space but is less engaging to drive.

Alternatives to consider include the Acura MDX (for luxury and reliability) and the Chevrolet Traverse (for affordability and space). If reliability is a top priority, the 4Runner or MDX might be better choices. If you need a blend of capability and luxury, the Grand Cherokee remains a strong contender, but be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs.

Ranks #1445 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee a Good Vehicle?

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee is ideal for buyers seeking a blend of on-road comfort, off-road capability, and a touch of luxury. It's worth buying used, but a thorough inspection is crucial, particularly checking for electrical and air suspension issues. Lower mileage examples with comprehensive service records are preferable. The Limited or Overland trims offer a good balance of features and value. Avoid the first year of a new generation if possible. If you prioritize rock-solid reliability above all else, other SUVs might be a better fit, but the Grand Cherokee provides a compelling package for the right buyer.

Too many costly repairs.

I have a 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited. I bought it with 82,000 miles on it. Fast Forward 3 years later and I've only put 18,500 miles on it and I've had to replace the water pump, serpentine belt, radiator, and catalytic converter and exhaust manifold. It has barely over 100,000 miles and I've had all of these issues. All maintenance has been done per factory recommendations. I do not recommend a Jeep. Can't wait to trade it in.

Not my old Cherokee

Summit has no badging to denote it, not a big deal for me. As a self help guy, I found that items were really pushed into tight places... headlights are really pain to replace. It would be nice if there where more reliable units that worked longer!(i have CJ5 that has light units that have been working for twenty plus years and I do not have to have stitches after replacing them). Front seat lumbar support bags feel like stiff plastic coke bottles cracking. Dealer said it is not their issue. ALL FOUR door hinge stops/detents have failed. Doors do not stay in place when opened and have closed at unexpected times injuring my wifes knees. These are NOT servicable units. No grease fittings, no replaceable parts. Our dealer has no way to replace these.BAD design. My 1978 Cherokee Chief doors still stop right where they are supposed to stop. Jeep/Chrysler is offering no help to correct this.It may be something I can do but not sure about gambling on that heavy door aligning correctly. I rotate all five tires. It took our dealer three weeks to get full sized unit, but to my chagrin.... it would not fit in tire well!! Had to do some surgery with a dremmel tool and heat gun. Another oversight. We have had three other modern Cherokees and have installed nose guards(Bras) and mud flaps. Tried to do the same with this one. Yipes!! Tried several times to get these installed at home. I had dealer check part numbers to make sure they were correct. They told me I was not skilled in the proper way to put these on. (28 year military helicopter mechanic here) I finally gave in and made an appointment to PAY the dealer to put them on. Three hour wait finally got me this from technician.... "you have the wrong units, both bra and flaps". Parts department took another half hour to find out Chrysler never made these for the Summit package.I wonder what else they are going to try to sell me that will not fit. They would not take them back as they were a special order. After 23000 miles to date(DEC 2022) we are hoping to get our monies worth out of this and shop better next time

Best suv on the market

This vehicle met all of my needs. Excellent handling in the snow with the Snow setting. It's a great car to drive in the summer as well. Dual sunroof and cooled seats.
