Key trims included the S, SE, Titanium, and hybrid variants. When new, pricing ranged from around $22,000 to $30,000+. Its attractive styling, fuel-efficient engine options, and available technology made it a popular choice for families and commuters alike.

What Problems Does the 2013 Ford Fusion Have?

The 2013 Ford Fusion, while generally reliable, does have some frequently reported problems. A prominent issue is related to the automatic transmission, where some owners have experienced rough shifting or complete failure. This issue seems to be more prevalent in the earlier production years. Electrical issues, particularly related to the MyFord Touch infotainment system, were also common complaints, with freezing screens and unresponsive controls being reported. Premature tire wear has also been noted by some owners.
Recalls for the 2013 Fusion have addressed issues ranging from potential fuel leaks to problems with the steering system. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the longevity of the transmission and the durability of certain electronic components. Regular maintenance, including timely fluid changes, can help mitigate some of these risks. Rust can also be a factor, especially in regions with harsh winters, potentially affecting the undercarriage and body panels over time. Always conduct a thorough inspection before purchasing a used model.

How long will the 2013 Ford Fusion last?

A 2013 Ford Fusion, with consistent maintenance, can reasonably achieve 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report reaching these figures with proper care. However, long-term durability hinges on addressing potential weaknesses like transmission issues and electrical glitches. Neglecting routine maintenance, such as oil changes and transmission fluid flushes, can significantly shorten its lifespan. Over time, suspension components, such as struts and bushings, may also require replacement. Rust prevention is key, especially in colder climates where road salt is used.
Positive Owner Reviews
John S.
I've owned this Fusion for several years, and it's been a great car. The gas mileage is excellent for a mid-size sedan, and it's been very reliable. I appreciate the comfortable ride and spacious interior.
David L.
For the price, this car is a steal. It's got plenty of features, drives well, and is relatively inexpensive to maintain. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good used car.
Michael B.
The Fusion offers a very comfortable and quiet ride. It's a great car for long commutes. The interior is well-designed and the seats are supportive.
Negative Owner Reviews
Emily R.
I love the look of my Fusion. It's a sharp-looking car. However, I've had a few minor issues with the electronics, and the trunk space isn't as large as I'd like.
Sarah M.
I've experienced some issues with the transmission. It sometimes shifts roughly. Otherwise, it's a decent car, but the transmission issue is concerning.
Jessica P.
The main reason I bought this car was for the gas mileage, and it hasn't disappointed. The performance is adequate, but it's not particularly sporty.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 Ford Fusion offered a good range of technology for its time. Standard features included a basic audio system, SYNC voice control, and Bluetooth connectivity. Higher trims, like the SE and Titanium, featured the MyFord Touch infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and upgraded audio options from Sony.
Driver-assistance features varied by trim. Available options included blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Safety features were comprehensive, with standard equipment including antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a suite of airbags.
Optional features included a rearview camera and parking assist. The 2013 Ford Fusion generally performed well in crash tests. The NHTSA awarded it a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS also gave it a “Top Safety Pick” designation, highlighting its good performance in various crash tests. Always verify the specific safety features on the trim level you are considering, as they could vary.

2013 Ford Fusion Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2013 Ford Fusion ranged from approximately $22,000 for the base S model to over $30,000 for a fully equipped Titanium or Hybrid model. Current used market prices vary significantly based on mileage, condition, and trim level. Expect to find them ranging from around $5,000 to $12,000. Depreciation has been significant, as with most vehicles, but well-maintained examples with lower mileage still command a higher resale value. Factors affecting resale value include the presence of desirable features like leather seats, navigation, and a clean Carfax report. The engine type also plays a role, with the EcoBoost models often holding slightly better value.

2013 Ford Fusion Cost of Ownership

The 2013 Ford Fusion generally presents moderate ownership costs. Insurance premiums are typically average for a mid-size sedan. Fuel costs depend on the engine choice, with the hybrid being the most economical. Routine maintenance is generally affordable, but potential transmission repairs can be costly. Overall, the Fusion is not overly expensive to own, but budgeting for potential repairs, especially related to the transmission, is prudent. The hybrid versions, while initially more expensive, offer lower long-term fuel costs.

2013 Ford Fusion Insurance

Insurance for a 2013 Ford Fusion is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2013 Ford Fusion Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2013 Ford Fusion competed against formidable rivals like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Mazda6, and Hyundai Sonata. In terms of styling, the Fusion arguably surpassed its competitors with its sleek and modern design. Performance was competitive, especially with the EcoBoost engines, but the Mazda6 offered a sportier driving experience. Feature-wise, the Fusion was generally well-equipped, but the MyFord Touch system wasn't as user-friendly as some competitors' infotainment systems.
Reliability is where the Fusion sometimes lagged behind the Camry and Accord, which are known for their exceptional dependability. The Sonata offered a similar value proposition with a longer warranty. Price-wise, the Fusion was generally competitive, offering a good balance of features for the money.
Alternatives to consider would be the Toyota Camry for unparalleled reliability, the Honda Accord for its well-roundedness, or the Mazda6 for a more engaging driving experience. If budget is a primary concern, the Hyundai Sonata offers a similar package at a potentially lower price point. The Fusion is a good choice, but carefully weigh its potential reliability concerns against its appealing design and feature set.

Final Verdict: Is the 2013 Ford Fusion a Good Sedan?

The 2013 Ford Fusion is ideal for buyers seeking a stylish and well-equipped mid-size sedan with a focus on design and available technology. Whether it's worth buying depends on the individual's priorities. If reliability is paramount, alternatives like the Camry or Accord might be better choices. However, if you're willing to accept some potential risks for a more visually appealing and feature-rich car, the Fusion can be a good option.
Buying used is generally recommended due to depreciation. Opting for a later production year (if available), with a thorough pre-purchase inspection, is advisable. The 2.0L EcoBoost Titanium trim offers the best combination of performance and features, but ensure the transmission has been well-maintained. Avoid models with a history of transmission problems if possible.

Good Gas Mileage, Average Performance

The main reason I bought this car was for the gas mileage, and it hasn't disappointed. The performance is adequate, but it's not particularly sporty.

Interior Quality Could Be Better

While I like the overall design of the Fusion, the interior materials feel a bit cheap. The plastics are hard and scratch easily. Everything else has been good.
