2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review: A Dependable Year For The Comfortable Midsize Off-Roader

Rating: 4.26
Based on 100 Owner Reviews â–¶
Jovan | March 31, 2025
The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a mid-size SUV known for its blend of on-road comfort and off-road capability. Part of the WK generation (2005-2010), it boasts a traditional SUV body style. Key trims included the Laredo, Limited, and Overland. New pricing ranged roughly from $30,000 to $40,000. Its appeal lies in its rugged image, available V8 power, and a comfortable interior, making it a popular choice for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
The Good

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers strong performance, especially with the available V8 engines. It provides a comfortable ride and a respectable design that appeals to those wanting a rugged yet refined SUV. While not the most efficient, it offers good value for its capabilities. The emotional appeal comes from its off-road prowess and Jeep heritage, while practical buyers appreciate its spaciousness and towing capacity.

The Bad

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee has some known weaknesses. Fuel economy, particularly with the V8 engines, is not impressive. Reliability can be a concern, with reports of electrical issues and transmission problems. Interior materials in the base Laredo trim can feel cheap. Potential buyers should watch out for signs of off-road abuse and carefully inspect the transmission for smooth shifting.

What Problems Does the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Have?

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee is known for some frequently reported problems. Electrical issues, including malfunctioning sensors and problems with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), are common. Transmission problems, such as rough shifting or complete failure, are also frequently reported. The 4.7L V8 engine can suffer from valve seat issues and premature wear. Rust can be a concern, particularly in areas with harsh winters and road salt.

Recalls for the 2007 model year have included issues related to airbags, fuel leaks, and the electronic stability control system. Long-term reliability can be affected by these issues, leading to potentially costly repairs. Some owners have reported problems with the climate control system and the power windows. Suspension components, such as ball joints and tie rod ends, may also wear out prematurely, especially on vehicles frequently used off-road. Prospective buyers should thoroughly inspect the vehicle and review its maintenance history to identify any potential problems.

How long will the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee last?

A well-maintained 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee can realistically provide 200,000 miles or more of service. Based on owner data and typical usage, many are still on the road after 15+ years. However, long-term durability hinges heavily on consistent maintenance. Regular oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and cooling system services are crucial. Weaknesses over time include rust, particularly in areas with road salt, and potential electrical problems that can become more frequent with age. Suspension components and bushings may also require replacement after years of use. Neglecting maintenance can significantly shorten the lifespan and increase the likelihood of major repairs.

Mysterious maintenance issues...I changed almost every piece trying to figure out why my jeep kept misfiring...Buy this vehicle at your own risk...Once this vehicle start having repair issues they didn't stop and the problem never seem to be fixed . Good Luck...
disappointed
My Jeep is now at 38,000 miles. It was great at first but started having major problems at 30,000 miles. First my front windows stopped working, now I'm having a problem (of course right after my warranty expires) where all the dash lights come on randomly, the car has even restarted itself WHILE I WAS DRIVING! Yesterday, I got up to 30mph and the car would not accelerate any further, I pulled over restarted the car and everything was normal, of course the dealership tells me they cant find a problem. I'm disappointed with the car and the service, can't get worse than that.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee offered a reasonable array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard entertainment included an AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims offered a premium audio system with satellite radio. A navigation system was available as an option. Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles but included available features like rear parking sensors.

Safety features included standard antilock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control. Side curtain airbags were also available. Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) varied depending on the specific test but generally achieved good scores for frontal and side impacts. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also conducted tests, with results showing good performance in some categories. Optional features included a DVD entertainment system for rear passengers, enhancing long trips. The Overland trim featured more luxurious options like heated seats and a premium sound system.

2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee had an MSRP ranging from approximately $28,000 to $40,000, depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices typically range from $4,000 to $12,000, varying based on condition, mileage, and location. Depreciation has been significant due to the vehicle's age. Factors affecting resale value include the overall condition, maintenance history, mileage, and whether it's a desirable trim level (like the Limited or Overland). Models with the Hemi engine tend to hold their value slightly better than those with the V6. High mileage and deferred maintenance negatively impact resale value considerably.

2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cost of Ownership

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee can be moderately costly to own long-term. Insurance costs are average for its class. Fuel costs, especially with the V8 engines, can be high. Maintenance and repair costs can be significant, particularly as the vehicle ages and is prone to certain mechanical and electrical issues. Parts availability is generally good. Budgeting for potential repairs is essential. Overall, it is not the most economical vehicle to own, especially compared to more modern and fuel-efficient SUVs.

2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee competed with vehicles like the Toyota 4Runner, Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder, and Chevrolet TrailBlazer. In terms of performance, the Grand Cherokee offered strong engine options, especially the Hemi V8, surpassing some competitors. Its off-road capability was also a significant advantage. However, its reliability lagged behind the Toyota 4Runner. The Ford Explorer offered similar space and comfort but lacked the Jeep's off-road prowess. The Nissan Pathfinder had a more modern interior but wasn't as capable off-road. The Chevy TrailBlazer was a more budget-friendly option but lacked the Jeep's refinement.

Regarding features, the Grand Cherokee was competitive but not class-leading. Price-wise, it was generally in the middle of the pack. Considering alternatives, the Toyota 4Runner (of similar vintage) offers better reliability, albeit with a less refined interior and on-road experience. A well-maintained Acura MDX provides more luxury and comfort but less off-road capability. If reliability is a top priority, the 4Runner is a better alternative. If comfort and luxury are paramount, the MDX is worth considering.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee a Good Wagon?

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee is ideal for those seeking a capable SUV with a blend of on-road comfort and off-road ability, especially if they prioritize power and Jeep's heritage. It is worth buying as a used vehicle if you are aware of its potential reliability issues and are willing to perform thorough maintenance. Look for well-maintained examples with detailed service records. The Limited or Overland trims offer better features and are generally more desirable. Avoid abused or neglected vehicles, especially those with a history of off-road use. If reliability is a primary concern, other options might be more suitable. Consider a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic.

Purchased my 2007 Grand Cherokee Laredo with 87,200 miles and am proud to say this Jeep is the best vehicle I've ever owned. At 192,500 miles and it still runs beautifully and has withstood New England weather.

The Summit a steal for the price.

Purchased new in 2007. Have 40,000 miles Like NEW on the outside and inside. AV needed new refrigerant at 40,000 miles! Great car, the Summit. Best, of some 50 I have owned. I mean the VERY best. Will probably die with it . . . at age 86. Traditional and FREE recalls . Usually done as Chapman's in Payson (2 years ago we got 36" of snow).

First Car! still in love

After owning my Laredo with the v6, I have fallen in love. After 130k miles of hardly any changes besides those needed because of car accidents, the v6 finally lost its water pump. all fixed and done, it lasted about 20k more miles before changes had to be done that included a new starter and ignition switch. the car is getting there in terms of age, but I still love it. drives like it does day 1, but with some 07 style! hopefully it'll last me to 180k miles as im not a big driver. but the car is my love HIGHS: Joy to drive, comfortable ride, tons and tons of cargo space, best winter car you could buy LOWS: Abysmal fuel economy (11-13 in the city depending on the city and usage of remote engine start, 22 Highway which isn't shabby), Sluggish acceleration, tight rear space, The older 4.0 inline six was better

Best used vehicle I've purchased

I bought a used 2007 awd Laredo because had moved from the city to a mountainside area my Lincoln ls while a beautiful car could not handle the winters so I looked around and I came across this beautiful vehicle and it had 117k on it I was skeptical. But my personal mechanic gave it a thorough look over and gave me the ok. And I'm very happy he did. I love this Jeep I haven't met a snowstorm that it can't handle. While I've had it for 2 years and now 131k on dash I keep regular maintenance on it and she's still running strong. Other then a few blemishes on the undercarriage (rust) wich is inevitable because Pennsylvania winters are harsh and the salt up here would eat through anything. But the motor has been strong and I'm a city boy through an through but this Jeep is comfortable and is pure luxury in its class I highly recommend this Jeep I wish I would've bought it new because I definitely would've taken great care of it. Oh and I must mention I'm never going to any other vehicle I'm a jeeper for life!!!
