What Problems Does the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport revolve around engine issues, particularly with the 2.4L engine. Some owners have reported engine knocking, stalling, and in some cases, engine failure. These issues have led to recalls related to engine connecting rod bearing wear. It's crucial to check the VIN for any applicable recalls and ensure they have been addressed.
Other concerns include potential electrical problems, such as issues with the infotainment system, sensors, and wiring. Some owners have also reported issues with the transmission, including rough shifting or slipping. Long-term reliability concerns often focus on the potential for these engine and electrical issues to arise as the vehicle ages. Premature catalytic converter failure has also been reported by some owners.
While not specific to the 2015 model year alone, Hyundai has faced scrutiny regarding engine issues across multiple model years. Therefore, thoroughly inspecting the engine, checking for any error codes, and reviewing the vehicle's maintenance history are highly recommended before purchasing a used 2015 Santa Fe or Santa Fe Sport.

How long will the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe last?

Given diligent maintenance, a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe can reasonably provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles of service, potentially lasting 10-15 years. However, its long-term durability is significantly impacted by adherence to recommended maintenance schedules, particularly oil changes. Weaknesses over time include potential engine wear (especially the 2.4L), electrical component failures, and suspension component degradation. Vehicles that haven't received regular maintenance are more prone to these issues. Rust can also become a factor in regions with harsh winters.

I've had Santa Fe 2015 for 10 years now. Last week my mom went on a long 4 hour drive trip. There was a big dumb on the ground and she fell on it. The car was flipped 6 times but guess what? I videocalled my mom in an hour and she was fine with just a bruise on her wrist. Imagine keep flipping 6 times and not having a scratch. This car saved my mom's life.

Are 2007 Sonata has very good seats. The 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe we just bought has the worst seats ever. After a half hour in them are backs are killing us. Hyundai USA wanted us to contact the local dealership They will just want us to buy new seats for a 1000.00 each. We don't know what to do.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe offers a reasonable suite of tech and safety features for its time. Standard tech features include a CD player, satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB port. Higher trims add features like a larger touchscreen display, navigation system, and a premium audio system. Entertainment is primarily handled by the audio system, with limited options for rear-seat entertainment systems from the factory.
Driver-assistance features are relatively basic compared to modern standards. Available options include a rearview camera and blind-spot monitoring. More advanced features like lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control were not widely available.
Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags. The 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe received good crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA. The IIHS gave it a "Top Safety Pick" rating. The NHTSA awarded it a 5-star overall safety rating. Specific ratings varied slightly between the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport models.
Optional features depended on the trim level but could include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated seats, and a power liftgate. The availability of these options varied by region and specific package configurations.

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe ranged from approximately $25,000 to $35,000 depending on the trim level and options. As of late 2024, used market prices typically range from $10,000 to $18,000, influenced by mileage, condition, and location. The Santa Fe has experienced moderate depreciation. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, mileage, and whether any outstanding recalls have been addressed. Vehicles with a clean title and documented service records command higher prices. The engine issues mentioned previously can negatively impact resale value.

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Cost of Ownership

The 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe generally falls into the average range for insurance costs compared to other mid-size SUVs. Fuel costs are moderate, depending on the engine choice. Maintenance costs are also average, but potential engine repairs can significantly increase long-term ownership expenses. Due to the potential for engine and electrical issues, the Santa Fe can be more costly to own than some competitors, especially if major repairs are needed. Regular maintenance is crucial to mitigate potential problems.

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe competes with the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and Chevrolet Equinox. In terms of performance, the Santa Fe's V6 engine offered more power than the base engines of some rivals, but the RAV4 and CR-V generally offer better fuel economy. Feature-wise, the Santa Fe provides a competitive set of standard features for the price.
Reliability is where the Santa Fe falls slightly behind some competitors, particularly the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, which have a stronger reputation for long-term reliability. The Ford Escape and Chevrolet Equinox have similar reliability ratings to the Santa Fe. Price-wise, the Santa Fe often offers a lower entry price than the RAV4 and CR-V.
If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V are better alternatives. If you prioritize a powerful V6 engine and don't mind the potential reliability concerns, the Santa Fe can be a good value. The Mazda CX-5 offers a more engaging driving experience. The Subaru Outback is another alternative to consider, offering standard all-wheel drive. Overall, the Santa Fe provides a good blend of features and value but requires careful consideration of its reliability track record.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe a Good Wagon?

The 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a mid-size SUV with a comfortable ride and a good amount of features for the price. It is worth buying *if* a thorough inspection reveals no signs of engine trouble, and the vehicle has a documented maintenance history. Opting for a model with the V6 engine and avoiding the 2.4L engine (due to potential issues) is advisable. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic. While a new vehicle is generally more reliable, a well-maintained used model can offer good value, provided the potential risks are understood and addressed.

Correct the problem

The mileage is poor. The tank is at 17 gallons. I gave complaint numerous times because I do get 300 miles per tank. Sometimes it registers 7 miles per gallon. I get such poor mileage, I have a 2015 Santa Fe Sport with not even 22,000 miles. Can afford to keep to keep gas in it.

Several major problems...

This car has had 3 MAJOR warranty services in 60,000 miles. A new cam shaft, a cam shaft sensor and a failed timing chain! That's unacceptable in a car of this age.

Great car for the money

If you are looking for a vehicle that is reliable and worth your money, this is the one. We purchased the Limited Ultimate, AWD, and it has not disappointed. It has versatility, since my wife is a home health nurse, and it is small enough to give us the ability to fit in tight spaces. We do have the third row option with the power tailgate and pano sunroof. That is my wife's favorite part, besides the blue tooth option which was non-negotiable for her. We are satisfied and feel that we will be having this car for many years to come.

Goes to heck at 100k

We purchased a 2015 Santa Fe due to wanting a 3rd row with 2 young daughters who are in activities and such, needing extra space for weekends and competitions, as well as hauling friends, etc on the weekend. Read the reviews, thought this was a good one to get. was 2 years old and 39k miles. Now at 110k and everything is going to heck. A/C went out at 105k, going to cost $2,200 to fix, wheel bearings went out at 108 (both front), brakes have been replaced twice since we owned it, alternator replaced twice, last time was at 92k. It's been a nice vehicle when it works, but has started to become a money pit. Our other vehicles, which include a Dodge Dart (!) have not had any issues - we maintain our vehicles very well with oil changes and other recommended services. Our 2014 Dart was purchased new and now has 192k miles and still going strong (2.4L engine) Will be looking at a VW Atlas or Toyota Highlander for our next SUV, very dissappointed and most likely will not go back to Hyundai. Should have taken a mechanic advice when we got a loaner Hyundai when we had our Ford escape in for service (the vehicle we eventually traded in for the Santa Fe). He said Hyundai's look great but are only good for about 100k miles. he was dead on.
