Rating: 4.55
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Simon A | March 31, 2025
The 2011 Honda CR-V is a compact SUV, part of the CR-V's third generation (2007-2011). Known for its reliability and practicality, it comes in LX, EX, and EX-L trims. It's popular for its spacious interior, fuel efficiency, and reputation for dependability. When new, it ranged from approximately $21,000 to $28,000. The CR-V's user-friendly design and car-like handling made it a favorite among families and commuters.
The Good

The 2011 Honda CR-V offers exceptional reliability and a comfortable ride, appealing to practical buyers seeking long-term value. Its fuel efficiency and spacious interior are added benefits. Emotionally, owners appreciate its reputation for dependability and the peace of mind it provides, knowing they have a trusted and safe vehicle.

The Bad

The 2011 Honda CR-V's weaknesses include somewhat bland styling and a less engaging driving experience compared to some rivals. Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning system and excessive oil consumption in later years. The rear suspension can be prone to wear, so inspect it thoroughly.

What Problems Does the 2011 Honda CR-V Have?

The 2011 Honda CR-V is generally considered reliable, but some common issues have been reported. One frequent complaint involves the air conditioning system, with some owners experiencing failures or reduced cooling capacity. Another concern is excessive oil consumption, particularly in higher-mileage vehicles. This issue can lead to engine damage if not monitored regularly. Rear suspension components, such as struts and bushings, can also wear out prematurely, especially in areas with harsh road conditions.
Recalls for the 2011 CR-V were relatively limited, but it's essential to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Some recalls may relate to airbag inflators or other safety-related components. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the aforementioned issues: AC problems, oil consumption, and suspension wear. Proper maintenance, including regular oil changes and inspections, can help mitigate these risks. While the 2011 model year doesn't have significantly more issues than other years in the third generation, addressing these potential problems proactively is crucial for ensuring the vehicle's longevity.

How long will the 2011 Honda CR-V last?

With good maintenance, a 2011 Honda CR-V can easily reach 200,000 miles or more, providing well over 10 years of service. Regular oil changes (every 5,000-7,500 miles), timely replacement of fluids and filters, and addressing any mechanical issues promptly are key to longevity. Long-term durability often hinges on mitigating the common weaknesses like AC compressor failure and excessive oil consumption. Neglecting these issues can significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan. Preventative maintenance and careful driving habits contribute greatly to maximizing the car's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2011 Honda CR-V's tech and safety features are adequate for its time. The base LX trim includes a four-speaker audio system with a CD player, while the EX trim upgrades to a six-speaker system with steering wheel-mounted controls. The EX-L offers a premium audio system and an optional navigation system. Driver-assistance features are limited; it lacks modern features like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning. Safety features include anti-lock brakes (ABS), stability control, and a full suite of airbags (front, side, and curtain).
Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) are generally good. The 2011 CR-V earned "Good" ratings in most crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also gave it favorable ratings, although scores can vary depending on the specific test. While not cutting-edge by today's standards, the 2011 CR-V provides a solid level of safety for its era. The available navigation system on the EX-L trim was a desirable feature for some buyers, but overall, the focus was on practicality and reliability rather than advanced technology.

2011 Honda CR-V Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2011 Honda CR-V ranged from approximately $21,000 for the base LX to around $28,000 for a fully-equipped EX-L. Current used market prices typically range from $7,000 to $14,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. The CR-V depreciates at a moderate rate, holding its value relatively well due to Honda's reputation for reliability. Factors affecting resale value include vehicle history, maintenance records, and overall condition. Lower mileage and a clean title command higher prices.

2011 Honda CR-V Cost of Ownership

The 2011 Honda CR-V is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate, and fuel efficiency is decent for its class. Maintenance costs are also reasonable, with readily available and affordable parts. While some repairs, like AC compressor replacement, can be costly, overall, the CR-V's reliability helps keep long-term ownership costs down. It's a budget-friendly choice for those seeking a dependable and practical SUV.

2011 Honda CR-V Insurance

Insurance for a 2011 Honda CR-V is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2011 Honda CR-V Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2011 Honda CR-V competes with vehicles like the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, and Chevrolet Equinox. In terms of reliability, the CR-V and RAV4 are generally considered top performers. The RAV4 offers similar reliability and slightly more cargo space, making it a strong alternative. The Nissan Rogue provides a more stylish interior and a lower price point but may not match the CR-V's long-term reliability.
The Chevrolet Equinox boasts a more powerful engine option but tends to have lower fuel economy. Feature-wise, the CR-V is competitive, though some rivals offer more advanced tech features for the same price. Performance-wise, the CR-V is adequate but not particularly sporty compared to some competitors. Price-wise, it sits in the middle of the pack. If reliability is paramount, the Toyota RAV4 is a comparable alternative. If budget is a primary concern and you're willing to compromise slightly on long-term reliability, the Nissan Rogue is another option. Ultimately, the CR-V's well-rounded nature makes it a solid choice in its class.

Protected us from a semi truck falling on us.

My mother got this car new and gave it to me after only a couple years. I absolutely ADORED this car. So reliable and comfortable. I would still be driving it if a semi truck hadn't fallen on it, crushing us over the guardrail, rolling us a few times. We would not have survived that in most cars. This car has ample room above you that crushes down. I had previously wondered once why the ceiling was so high. Life saver. The seat belt held so fast and hard that I have a massive bruise from it. The seat belts had my friend and I hanging upside down. This is a fantastic car. Sad to see it go! I will probably get another.

1000/10

I bought this for my first car and was honestly amazing. I'm so upset that its totaled and will miss her so much. My only complaint about it was the Air Conditioning during HOT HOT summers would blow out warm air, but I think its a common issue. At 151k miles, it developed this sound with the exhausted, but nevertheless, an amazing, dependable car for a girl who knows nothing about them.

2011 Honda CR-V Best Purchase Experience

South Shore Auto Dealers & Sales has an archangel in Richie. The car is clean, clean, clean! He had the car that I prayed for. It's safe, beautiful, economic, and the insurance payment is within my budget. Everything that I didn't know I needed. Richie is 1,000% authentic, sincere, professional and includes a warranty. The price that he lists REALLY IS the price + taxes + plates. That's it! I'm still shocked. You can't compare this experience to anything else you've experienced. Take the trip out to South Shore Auto Dealers, it'll be the beginning of the best drive home ever

One of my best cars very surprised

Runs as new I'm a mechanic car have 267000 miles I put expensive oil parts transmission fluid every 40000 miles changed every 2000 miles synthetic oil only Honda authentic parts nothing after market or amazon or from ebay. car running perfect I drive it every day it feels as bigger car very safe solid build car it a monster drive in snow never let me down Japanese cars are the best don't buy American junk Chevy Chrysler or Ford waist of money and time you buy American you have nightmares. Honda makes the best or Toyota my crv will go more and over 300.000 miles I also own a Toyota 4 runner 2003 and runs perfect with 478.000 miles another 4x4 monster and I own a Camry 2013 with 205.067 miles on it my cars drive better and better. You have to understand people buy a car they put cheapest gas parts and oil they change oil after 10000 miles the way the treat them selves they treat car house family. Remember when you buy these kind of cars as Honda or Toyota you have no excuse to blame the Honda or Toyota company these cars will last 4 ever so don't listen or follow these bad reviews those people have never idea to drive or take care a car so for their mistakes blame the dealership or Honda or Toyota. Honda and Toyota makes engine and transmission bulletproof body interior. Buy these cars take care service regular don't put cheap parts gas or oil, you will always remember me . Stay away from jeep , dodge, Chrysler . GMC production.

Terrible

Ultimately this would have been a nice car, sadly Honda Turnersville sold to me with some things wrong they refused to look into fixing. Each time I went back they said "you don't know what your talking about"

One of the most reliable vehicles we have owned.

Never cared for the styling, but can't beat it mechanically. Never had a problem. Hondas are about as reliable as it gets. It does come as a surprise that if you damage 1 tire, you have to replace all 4.

A safe and reliable transportation

The excellent service from our local Honda dealer keeps our CR-V in excellent shape. We feel safe riding it not only in good times, but also in foul weather and during winter.
