Rating: 4.47
Based on 61 Owner Reviews
Drew B | March 31, 2025
The 2007 Honda Ridgeline is a unique pickup truck that debuted in 2006. It features a unibody construction, setting it apart from traditional body-on-frame trucks. It's offered as a crew cab with a short bed. Key trims for 2007 included the RT, RTS, and RTL. Original pricing ranged approximately from the mid $20,000s to the low $30,000s. Its popularity stems from its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and innovative features like the In-Bed Trunk.
The Good

The 2007 Honda Ridgeline offers a smooth, comfortable ride unlike traditional trucks. Its reliability is generally strong, a Honda hallmark. The unique In-Bed Trunk and dual-action tailgate appeal to practical buyers, while the car-like handling and spacious interior provide emotional satisfaction. It presents a good overall value for those needing moderate truck capabilities.

The Bad

The 2007 Honda Ridgeline's weaknesses include its limited towing capacity compared to traditional trucks. Some owners have reported issues with the VTM-4 system. Also, its fuel economy isn't exceptional for its size. Rust can be an issue, especially in areas with road salt, so inspect the undercarriage carefully. The rear differential should be inspected for leaks and proper operation.

What Problems Does the 2007 Honda Ridgeline Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2007 Honda Ridgeline include issues with the VTM-4 (Variable Torque Management 4-Wheel Drive) system, which can sometimes experience delayed engagement or failure. Some owners have reported transmission problems, particularly hard shifting or slipping, especially at higher mileage. Rust can be a concern, especially in regions with harsh winters and road salt. Check the undercarriage, frame, and bed for signs of corrosion. There have been recalls related to the fuel tank and potential fuel leakage in certain conditions. Check the vehicle's VIN with Honda to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.

Long-term reliability concerns include potential issues with the rear differential, which can develop leaks or require replacement. The power steering system can also develop leaks over time. The air conditioning system, particularly the compressor, is another area to watch. While the Ridgeline is generally reliable, regular maintenance, including fluid changes (transmission, differential, coolant, power steering), is crucial to preventing these issues. Ignoring maintenance can significantly shorten the lifespan of these components. Engine mounts may also wear out over time, leading to increased vibration. Owners should also be aware of potential issues with the electronic components, such as the navigation system (if equipped) and the climate control system.

How long will the 2007 Honda Ridgeline last?

With good maintenance habits, a 2007 Honda Ridgeline can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report exceeding 250,000 miles with original powertrains. However, long-term durability depends heavily on consistent maintenance, including timely oil changes, transmission fluid services, and addressing any rust issues promptly. Weaknesses over time include potential VTM-4 system failures, rear differential problems, and rust, especially in colder climates. Neglecting these areas can significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan. The suspension components may also require attention after many years of service.

This is a great medium size truck that drives like a very nice car. We plan to use this truck for hauling equipment, lumber, Kayaks, etc. Really enjoy it.
Barry1965
This truck is a joy to drive! It rides like a car but you sit up in the air like an SUV. It's very reliable and has been a great addition to our family.

Worst truck ever.. The cost of maintenance will kill you!! This Ridgeline breaks down just like any other truck. At least the GM trucks give a 100,000 mile warranty with Roadside Assistance. Not Honda.. They make you pay for the tow truck when you have 13,000 miles.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Honda Ridgeline featured a decent level of technology for its time. Standard entertainment features included an AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims offered upgraded audio systems with XM Satellite Radio. Optional features included a navigation system with voice recognition.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. It came standard with cruise control, but lacked advanced features like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring. Safety features included standard front and side airbags, as well as anti-lock brakes (ABS) and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA).

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) were generally good. The Ridgeline typically received 4 or 5 stars in frontal and side-impact crash tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also awarded the Ridgeline good ratings in its crash tests. The unibody construction contributed to its solid crash performance.

While the 2007 Ridgeline lacked the advanced driver-assistance systems of newer vehicles, its safety features and crash-test ratings were competitive for its era. The available navigation system was a desirable option for some buyers. The overall technology package was adequate for its time, focusing on basic entertainment and safety.

2007 Honda Ridgeline Prices and Market Value

The 2007 Honda Ridgeline originally sold for around $28,000 to $33,000, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $8,000 to $15,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Ridgeline has depreciated significantly over the years, as expected for a vehicle of its age. Resale value is affected by factors such as mileage, condition (rust is a major factor), maintenance history, and overall demand. Lower mileage examples in excellent condition command higher prices. The availability of service records also positively impacts resale value.

2007 Honda Ridgeline Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for a 2007 Honda Ridgeline are generally moderate, similar to other mid-size trucks. Fuel costs can be relatively high due to its V6 engine and fuel economy. Maintenance and repair costs are generally reasonable, especially if preventative maintenance is followed. However, some repairs, like VTM-4 system issues, can be costly. Overall, the 2007 Ridgeline isn't the most economical vehicle to own, but it's not excessively expensive either, falling into a middle ground in terms of total cost of ownership.

2007 Honda Ridgeline Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Honda Ridgeline is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Pickup Truck with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Honda Ridgeline Compare to Other Pickup Truck?

The 2007 Honda Ridgeline competed against traditional mid-size trucks like the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, and Chevrolet Colorado. In terms of performance, the Ridgeline offered a smoother ride and better handling than its body-on-frame rivals, but its towing capacity was limited to 5,000 lbs, lower than many competitors. Features-wise, the Ridgeline's In-Bed Trunk was a unique selling point. Reliability is generally strong for the Ridgeline, comparable to the Tacoma, but possibly better than some Colorado models.

In terms of price, the Ridgeline was often positioned slightly higher than some base models of its competitors. The Tacoma is a strong alternative, known for its reliability and off-road capabilities. The Nissan Frontier offers a more traditional truck experience at a potentially lower price point. The Chevrolet Colorado provided a range of engine options but had a less refined interior.

For someone prioritizing a comfortable ride and unique features, the Ridgeline is a good choice. However, for those needing serious towing capacity or off-road prowess, the Toyota Tacoma is likely a better option. The Frontier offers a more budget-friendly, traditional truck experience. The Colorado may appeal to those seeking a wider range of engine choices, but buyers should research reliability history carefully.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Honda Ridgeline a Good Pickup Truck?

The 2007 Honda Ridgeline is ideal for buyers needing a versatile vehicle with some truck capabilities but prioritizing comfort and a smooth ride. It's a good fit for homeowners, weekend warriors, or anyone who occasionally needs to haul items but doesn't require heavy-duty towing. Whether it's worth buying depends on the price and condition. A well-maintained example with a clean service history and minimal rust can be a good value. Look for higher trims like the RTL for added features. Given its age, buying used is the only option, but thorough inspection and a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic are essential.

Great Vehicle!

This is a great medium size truck that drives like a very nice car. We plan to use this truck for hauling equipment, lumber, Kayaks, etc. Really enjoy it.

Awesome Truck

Best truck I've owned. Owned for two years never had any problems. Maintenance costs are very reasonable, interior is extremely comfortable, plenty of space inside the bed as well.

Perfect first truck for a teen

I'm very impressed with the Ridgeline. Great first truck - love the style and the secret trunk. Very sturdy. Surprised more aren't on the road- although I have heard that it has a cult following. My 16 year old hates trucks but loves his ridgeline!

Versatile

Very versatile vehicle that is comfortable to drive. We purchased because of the Honda reliability and how they hold their value. It's a very popular vehicle where we live.

One of the most reliable vehicles ever owned

This truck is a joy to drive! It rides like a car but you sit up in the air like an SUV. It's very reliable and has been a great addition to our family.

Very comfortable truck

The truck had plenty of legroom front and back. The ride was smooth, quiet and the perfect road trip rig. The heated seats were super nice in the winter. It did well in the snow even with all-terrain tires on. It's smaller size makes it easy for parking in town.

In love with it!

I love this truck. The engine doesn?t have as much get up and go as you would expect for a V6 but it?s amazing none the less!
