The Chevrolet Tahoe, a full-size SUV, has been a mainstay in the American automotive landscape for decades. The 2022 model continues this legacy, offering a spacious three-row interior and robust capabilities. Available as a large SUV, the Tahoe stands out due to its comfortable ride, powerful engine options, and ample cargo space. Key trims include LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Pricing generally ranges from $52,000 to $75,000, depending on the trim and options. Its popularity stems from its blend of practicality and luxury, making it a top choice for families and those needing serious towing capacity.
The Good

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe offers strong performance with its various engine options, including V8s. It boasts a comfortable and spacious interior, appealing to families. The bold design and available luxury features provide emotional appeal, while its towing capacity and reliability provide practical value. Though fuel efficiency isn’t its strong suit, it offers a compelling package for those needing a full-size SUV.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe include its large size, which can make it challenging to maneuver in tight spaces. Fuel economy is another concern, particularly with the V8 engines. Some owners have reported minor electrical glitches and infotainment system issues. While generally reliable, some components may require attention over time. Watch out for potential issues with the adaptive suspension, if equipped.

What Problems Does the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Have?

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe, while generally reliable, has experienced some frequently reported problems. Some owners have noted issues with the infotainment system, including freezing, delayed responses, and connectivity problems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Electrical glitches, such as sensor malfunctions and issues with the automatic emergency braking system, have also been reported. Some owners have experienced transmission issues, including rough shifting or hesitation.
Recalls for the 2022 Tahoe have addressed issues such as potential seat belt assembly problems and malfunctioning airbags. It is crucial to check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information. Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the longevity of the complex electronic systems and the potential for expensive repairs to the adaptive suspension, if equipped. While not widespread, some owners have reported issues with the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, which can lead to engine problems over time. Overall, while the 2022 Tahoe is a capable vehicle, potential buyers should be aware of these potential issues and ensure proper maintenance and timely repairs.

How long will the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe last?

With proper maintenance, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe can realistically provide 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule are crucial. Long-term durability is generally good, but potential weaknesses include the aforementioned electrical components, the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system in the V8 engines, and the adaptive suspension, if equipped. Rust can be a concern in areas with harsh winters, so rustproofing is recommended. The transmission, if not properly maintained, can also become a source of issues over time. Owners who prioritize preventive maintenance can expect a longer lifespan from their Tahoe.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe boasts a comprehensive suite of technology, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard tech includes a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trims offer features like a Bose premium audio system, rear-seat entertainment system with dual 12.6-inch screens, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Driver-assistance features include standard forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view camera system.
Safety features include a suite of airbags, stability control, and traction control. Available Super Cruise hands-free driving system is a major highlight.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) are generally positive, with the Tahoe earning good scores in most categories. However, it's important to check the latest ratings for the 2022 model year on their respective websites as they are updated periodically.

2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe's MSRP ranged from approximately $52,000 for the base LS trim to over $75,000 for the High Country trim, depending on options. Used market prices currently range from the mid-$40,000s to the high-$60,000s, reflecting depreciation. Depreciation is influenced by factors such as mileage, condition, trim level, and demand. Tahoes with lower mileage, a clean accident history, and desirable features like the 6.2L V8 or four-wheel drive tend to hold their value better. Overall, the Tahoe depreciates at a rate similar to other full-size SUVs, but its strong brand reputation and high demand help maintain its resale value.

2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe is generally considered costly to own. Insurance premiums are typically higher due to the vehicle's size and value. Fuel costs can be significant, especially with the V8 engines. Maintenance, including oil changes and tire rotations, is relatively standard, but repairs can be expensive due to the complexity of the vehicle's systems. Long-term ownership costs, considering depreciation, fuel, insurance, maintenance, and potential repairs, can be substantial. The diesel engine offers better fuel economy, potentially lowering overall costs, but diesel repairs can be pricier.

2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Truck with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Compare to Other Truck?

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe competes with the Ford Expedition, GMC Yukon, and Jeep Wagoneer. In terms of performance, the Tahoe offers a good balance with its various engine options, though the Expedition's turbocharged V6 provides comparable power and better fuel economy in some configurations. Feature-wise, the Tahoe is competitive, offering a similar range of tech and luxury options as its rivals.
Reliability is a mixed bag; while the Tahoe has a generally good reputation, some rivals like the Toyota Sequoia (although older design) are known for exceptional reliability. Price-wise, the Tahoe is positioned similarly to the Expedition and Yukon, but the Wagoneer can sometimes offer more value for the money, especially on lower trims.
Alternatives to the Tahoe include the Ford Expedition (for its independent rear suspension and available hybrid powertrain), the GMC Yukon (which is essentially a more upscale Tahoe), and the Jeep Wagoneer (for its luxurious interior and strong towing capabilities). The Toyota Sequoia, while dated, is a reliable option. If reliability is paramount, the Sequoia might be a better choice; otherwise, the Tahoe offers a well-rounded package.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe a Good Truck?

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe is ideal for large families needing ample passenger and cargo space, as well as those requiring significant towing capacity. Whether it's worth buying depends on individual needs and priorities. If space, power, and a comfortable ride are paramount, the Tahoe is a strong contender. Consider buying used to mitigate depreciation, but thoroughly inspect the vehicle for any reported issues. The LT or Premier trims offer a good balance of features and value. Avoid the base LS unless you are on a very tight budget. For those prioritizing fuel economy, explore the diesel option, though repair costs might be higher. If ultimate reliability is the top concern, consider alternative options, but for a well-rounded full-size SUV, the Tahoe remains a solid choice.

2022 Tahoe RST

I traded my 2021 BMW M8 Competition. What a change! I love the fact that my RST is Dark Ash Grey with little hue of purple in direct sunlight. Absolutely stunning. Performance when needed, can haul whole family in comfort, amenities and useful space, nice not too flashy styling with 22" black rims, and most importantly, I can put regular unleaded at any gas station! Long way Chevrolet have come with Tahoe. Great improvement in reliability and styling. I prefer this over GMW Yukon or Cadillac Escalade.

Imported from Detroit

My 2022 RST w/ the 6.2 and 22" all black rims is a head turner. I traded a 2021 BMW X7 because my teens needed more leg room behind their 6'2" dad. What I gave up in luxury, I gained in good ole Merica v-8 Detroit rumble. The utility of this SUV is 2nd to none. Build quality in Merica is back. Thanks GM the bailout was well worth it.
