2022 Jeep Compass Overview, Reviews, Ratings & Specs

Rating: 4.12
Based on 21 Owner Reviews
Jovan | March 31, 2025
The Jeep Compass, a compact SUV, has been a staple in Jeep's lineup since 2007. The 2022 model represents a significant refresh. Available as a 4-door SUV, key trims include the Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. Pricing typically ranges from the mid $20,000s to the low $30,000s. The Compass stands out for its Jeep heritage, off-road capabilities (especially in Trailhawk trim), and updated interior styling.
The Good

The 2022 Jeep Compass offers a blend of Jeep's iconic styling with a more refined interior. It appeals to emotional buyers with its rugged image and available off-road capability. Practical advantages include improved fuel efficiency compared to older models, comfortable seating, and user-friendly technology. However, performance is adequate rather than exhilarating.

The Bad

While the 2022 Compass is improved, some weaknesses persist. Its acceleration can feel sluggish, and the transmission isn't always the smoothest. Some owners have reported electronic glitches. Reliability, while improved, remains a concern compared to some competitors. The higher trims can get pricey, impacting the value proposition.

What Problems Does the 2022 Jeep Compass Have?

The 2022 Jeep Compass, while improved, has faced some reliability concerns. Common issues reported include transmission problems, such as rough shifting or hesitation. Electrical issues, involving the infotainment system and other electronic components, have also been noted. Some owners have reported problems with the climate control system. Specific recalls may exist for the 2022 model year; it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for up-to-date recall information. Long-term reliability remains a question mark; earlier Compass models had a history of below-average reliability ratings. While the 2022 refresh aimed to address these issues, it's wise to monitor owner forums and reliability reports for ongoing concerns. Potential buyers should consider purchasing an extended warranty for added peace of mind, especially if planning to keep the vehicle long-term. Furthermore, check the vehicle history report for any prior repairs or accidents before purchasing a used model. Staying informed about potential problems can help mitigate risks associated with ownership.

How long will the 2022 Jeep Compass last?

With regular maintenance, a 2022 Jeep Compass can reasonably be expected to last 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years. However, longevity heavily depends on adherence to the manufacturer's recommended service schedule. Weaknesses in long-term durability may surface in the form of increased electronic issues and potential transmission problems as the vehicle ages. Consistent oil changes, timely fluid replacements, and addressing minor repairs promptly are crucial to maximizing the vehicle's lifespan. Ignoring maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan and lead to more costly repairs down the road.

I have had my 22 High Altitude for about 4 months now and the only issue(s) I find are the following: MPG is not as advertised, it's not that great. It's around 24 average, I am about 50/50 city/highway driving - It's fine. It DOES ride like a Jeep - so it's not as "luxurious" as your higher end cars, but YOU BOUGHT A JEEP - The last snow storm we had in Cleveland was about 10" in 2 hours - No problem, even with 235/45/19 tires - Would be way better with not so wide tires. It's slow. Who cares? Are you driving in the F1? Nah - It's plenty. Interior is baller. Infotainment is great, comfortable. Heated steering wheel is a plus. IDK - I read these reviews and everyone is so picky - It's a nice ride. If you find you like it, give it a shot.

2022 Jeep Compass Limited ♥️ when I bought my Jeep I loved it at first sight❗️just being very specific. Love the cooling/heating for seats upfront and also in the back. and the heating steering wheel. Love the outlets super great option for outdoors. Love having 4x4 I also love the options for different off road travels sand, mud, snow glad we don't get snow in Florida ♥️ my Compass is not sluggish at all. Trust me when I want it to get up and go it does. But I didn't buy my Jeep to tear it up either. Lots of room and storage. Plugs everywhere for everyone's phones. And mine I just put on the charger no need to plug it in. LOVE the back up camera. If you are having problems with that go to your dealership they will fix that for you right away. Full extended sunroof from front to back. I love finding all the little Easter eggs hidden on my Jeep. Love the remote options on my phone that can lock, unlock, start, horn, basically I can do everything on my phone. Love the SOS button incase of emergency. You can drive for 6hr and 37min before getting gas. Also other feature I love it will stop byself if iam coming up on something and iam not stopping. So many more features that I love ❤️ Money well spent. Eventually I will be getting a lift kit on it. And trailer hitch. I would most definitely recommend. Best vehicle I have ever owned. Honestly I have nothing bad to say. I LOVE MY 2022 JEEP COMPASS LIMITED. ❗️🤘

We rented this car and man this thing is cheap. Even though we had nice leather seats etc, everything about the ride was not very good. First the 4 cylinder was weak and not punchy, felt like the car was being pushed to the max just to go. The road noise is laughable, it sounded like I was in a wrangler with monster tires on it, the road noise is a joke. And lastly it rode rough, felt every bump as if the axle would break if we hit the wrong bump. I would never buy this car, jeep junk

2022 Jeep Compass Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Jeep Compass is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Jeep Compass Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Jeep Compass competes with vehicles like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Subaru Crosstrek. In terms of performance, the Compass lags behind the CR-V and RAV4, which offer more powerful engine options. Feature-wise, it's competitive, especially with the updated infotainment system. However, reliability is where the Compass falls short compared to the Honda, Toyota, and Mazda. The Subaru Crosstrek offers better off-road capabilities at a lower price point, though it's smaller. Price-wise, the Compass is generally competitive, but higher trims can become expensive. Alternatives to consider include the Honda CR-V for its reliability and spaciousness, the Toyota RAV4 for its fuel efficiency and resale value, and the Mazda CX-5 for its engaging driving dynamics and premium interior. For those prioritizing off-road capability and a lower price, the Subaru Crosstrek is a solid option. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Jeep Compass a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Jeep Compass is ideal for buyers who appreciate Jeep styling and want some off-road capability without the bulk of a larger SUV. It's worth considering, especially if found at a good price, as the 2022 refresh addressed some previous shortcomings. Buying used can be a good option, but a thorough inspection and vehicle history report are crucial. The Trailhawk trim is recommended for those prioritizing off-road adventures. However, buyers should be aware of potential reliability concerns and consider an extended warranty. If reliability is a top priority, alternatives like the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 might be better choices.

Transmission failed

Purchased a jeep compass Trailhawk, 2022 brand new and after 15,000 miles the cars transmission failed. Waited about 45 days for them to fix the transmission and ended up having to file a lemon lawsuit. The car has many features on the inside that are great, but the car won't last.

Eye Catcher (on the outside)

I purchased the 2022 Jeep Compass Red edition in January 2022. It caught my eye immediately- love the exterior and have had several compliments! Also love the leather heated seats and steering wheel along with the remote start! Backup camera at night needs some looking into Mileage is not great 15-16 mpg in city vs dealership stating 21-23 mpg. Highway is not great either, so, if you're looking for a jeep with great gas mileage, don't purchase this one. Loud highway noise and Acceleration not good on highway and sounds like engine is laboring to change gears. Took back to dealership to have them check it over-not sure I'll keep this one!!

Poorly made vehicle

My compass is a 2017 and I've had to replace the battery 3 times now, I've never had this problem with any other car that I have ever owned. I paid entirely too much for a crappy car and I will probably NEVER buy another jeep, had similar issues with my Renegade. I'm spreading the word to all my health care professionals…although they have seen the issues I've had, which is sad because they all liked my jeep…until now!!

Comfort

My only complaint are the front seats do not have enough cushion and the seatbelt latch pushes into your hip on the drivers side. and standard lumbar support on all models added

Love my 2022 Compass

I have had my 2022 Jeep Compass for 8 months now and no complaints. I can accelerate onto the fwy with no problems. I get the mileage they say. I do wish the storage was a tad bit larger and maybe more leg room in the back, but honestly I only travel with two dogs and rear air is good for them. Love the larger display screen and never a glare so I can't see it as in some other cars I tried. My backup camera works fine at night. I have the 4X4, so I need to get more info on that. I know the 2023 has a turbo, but I don't care about that.

WHERE'S THE RECALL?

2022 Jeep Compass Limited… All I can say is don't backup at night! The camera is horrendous and this car needs a recall for the camera! Backing up at night with a black screen can be extremely dangerous! Where's the RECALL!!!! Also…gas mileage should be better and the pick up speed is sluggish to say the least. The buttons underneath the screen are easy to hit by mistake. This car looks great inside and out but needs some major improvements. When are they going to have women design the interior of cars? Women want comfort, reliability and ease!!!!
