The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser is a full-size SUV with a long and storied history of off-road capability and luxury. This generation (J200) spans model years 2008-2021, known for its robust build quality and go-anywhere attitude. It's available in a single, well-equipped trim. New, they were pricey, often exceeding $80,000. Its blend of luxury and unparalleled off-road prowess makes it a standout.
The Good

The 2014 Land Cruiser boasts legendary Toyota reliability, ensuring peace of mind for practical buyers. Its powerful V8 engine delivers impressive performance both on and off-road. Luxurious comfort and a commanding presence provide an emotional appeal. It offers a unique blend of capability and refinement, although fuel efficiency isn't its strong suit.

The Bad

The 2014 Land Cruiser's weaknesses include poor fuel economy due to its large engine and weight. Its size can make it cumbersome in urban environments. Repairs, while infrequent, can be expensive due to the vehicle's complexity. Rust can be a concern in colder climates where salt is used on roads; carefully inspect the undercarriage.

Analysis

What Problems Does the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Have?

The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser is generally considered a highly reliable vehicle. However, some frequently reported problems, though not widespread, include issues with the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which can sometimes experience leaks or malfunctions. The navigation system can occasionally be slow or outdated. Some owners have reported minor issues with the Bluetooth connectivity. Check for any recalls related to airbags or other safety components on the NHTSA website using the VIN. Long-term reliability concerns are minimal, but regular maintenance is crucial, especially fluid changes and inspections of the suspension and drivetrain. As the vehicle ages, expect potential wear and tear on components like the suspension bushings, ball joints, and brake system. Rust prevention, particularly in areas with road salt, is essential to maintaining its long-term durability. Overall, the 2014 Land Cruiser exhibits excellent reliability compared to other SUVs in its class, but preventative maintenance is key to mitigating potential issues.

How long will the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser can easily exceed 250,000 miles or provide 15-20 years of service. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacements of wear items are crucial. Long-term durability is a major strength; however, potential weaknesses include rust in colder climates, wear on suspension components (KDSS, shocks), and eventual failure of electronics (navigation, entertainment system). Owners who meticulously follow the maintenance schedule and address minor issues promptly can expect a very long lifespan from this vehicle.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser comes well-equipped with technology and safety features. Standard features include a nine-inch touchscreen display, a navigation system, and a JBL sound system with 14 speakers, providing a high-quality entertainment experience. The rear-seat DVD entertainment system keeps passengers entertained on long journeys. Driver-assistance features include a backup camera, front and rear parking sensors, and Toyota Safety Sense, which comprises a Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Safety features include anti-theft system, multiple airbags, and vehicle stability control. The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) enhances both on-road handling and off-road capability. While specific crash-test ratings from IIHS or NHTSA for the 2014 model year can be difficult to find, the Land Cruiser's robust construction and comprehensive safety features generally provide excellent occupant protection. The combination of advanced tech and proven safety systems makes the 2014 Land Cruiser a technologically competent and secure vehicle.

2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Prices and Market Value

The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser had an MSRP of around $80,000-$85,000 when new. Currently, used market prices typically range from $40,000 to $60,000, depending on mileage, condition, and location. Depreciation is relatively slow due to the Land Cruiser's reputation for reliability and strong demand. High mileage or accident history will negatively impact resale value. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage command a premium. The Land Cruiser's off-road capability and luxury features contribute to its strong resale value, making it a good investment in the long run.

2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Land Cruiser is generally costly to own. Insurance premiums are typically higher due to its value and size. Fuel economy is poor, leading to significant fuel costs. While maintenance is generally reliable, repairs can be expensive due to the vehicle's complexity and specialized parts. Regular maintenance, however, is crucial to minimize long-term repair costs. Overall, owners should anticipate higher-than-average ownership costs compared to other SUVs.

2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser competes with luxury SUVs like the Lexus LX 570 (its close relative), Range Rover, and Cadillac Escalade. In terms of reliability, the Land Cruiser surpasses most rivals, including the Range Rover, which is known for maintenance issues. The Lexus LX 570 offers similar reliability and features at a comparable price point. The Cadillac Escalade provides more interior space and advanced technology but sacrifices some off-road capability and reliability. The Range Rover boasts a more luxurious interior and advanced features but is less dependable. If off-road capability and bulletproof reliability are paramount, the Land Cruiser is a top choice. The Lexus LX 570 is a very similar alternative. For those prioritizing luxury and on-road comfort, the Range Rover or Escalade might be considered, but with a compromise on reliability. Consider a Lexus LX570 for a nearly identical experience at potentially a slightly lower price. Consider a used Toyota Sequoia for more interior space with similar reliability but less luxurious appointments.

Ranks #95 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser is ideal for buyers seeking a supremely reliable and capable SUV with a touch of luxury. It's worth buying if you prioritize off-road performance and long-term durability over fuel economy and cutting-edge technology. A used 2014 Land Cruiser offers excellent value, especially if it has been well-maintained. There is only one trim level, so focus on finding a vehicle in excellent condition with a comprehensive service history. It's a robust choice for those who need a dependable vehicle that can handle demanding conditions, both on and off the road.

Toyota?s Flagship

The LC is a do it all vehicle . IMO it is the ultimate roadtrip vehicle , it was my daily driver as well . I drove it through torrential rain in Florida , in a bad snow storm in Colorado going from Great Sand Dunes National Park to Breckenridge, Drove in Sand , scorching heat in NM ; The LC always inspired confidence on and off road . It?s full time 4WD so it is always ready to go , the Crawl control is noisy and weird to use but gets the job done . The interior is quiet in the 14 you get adaptive cruise , front and side cameras , ventilated and heated seats, premium audio, a cooler , leather , among other amenities. The Duelers from the factory are a great all around tire the LC had 52k miles when I sold it and tires still had plenty of traction. I know it?s expensive and most people will not use its off-road capability due to fear of breaking something , nothing ever broke, scratch or bent and I did some good off roading and all it ever needed were the scheduled oil Changes . I think that the solid reliability and the confidence that it will take a lot of irresponsible abuse to break this vehicle is what you pay for .

Land Cruiser reliably and reputation off-road

This LC has been lifted and gets lots of looks I really enjoy driving something that very few people have. I went from a 2016 Escalade to this and I am thrilled I made the change.

One of the Most Manly SUVs Ever Made

Just purchased this car about a month ago and have fallen in love with the car. The v8 is aggressive and the amount of soft touch leather in the interior is amazing. It is very reassuring to know I have full time 4wd. The wood trim is supposed to be real but feels and looks very fake, but other than that the car the best for a family "cruiser."
