The 2013 Chevrolet Corvette, part of the C6 generation (2005-2013), represents the end of an era. It's available as a coupe or convertible. Key trims include the base Corvette, Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1. The original MSRP ranged from approximately $50,000 to $115,000, depending on the trim. The Corvette stands out for its powerful performance, iconic design, and relatively attainable price point for a sports car, making it perennially popular.
The Good

The 2013 Corvette offers thrilling performance from its powerful engines, including the monstrous ZR1. It balances performance with reasonable reliability and decent comfort for a sports car. Its iconic design evokes emotional appeal. Practical buyers appreciate its relatively affordable price compared to European rivals and its acceptable fuel efficiency for a high-performance vehicle.

The Bad

The 2013 Corvette's interior materials can feel dated compared to newer vehicles, and the road noise can be significant. Potential issues include the harmonic balancer on some engines, and the LS7 engine in the Z06 can experience valve guide wear. Inspect for signs of wear and tear, especially on high-performance models.

What Problems Does the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2013 Corvette, and applicable to the C6 generation in general, include issues with the harmonic balancer, particularly on earlier models. This can lead to engine damage if not addressed. The LS7 engine in the Z06 is known for potential valve guide wear, which can cause performance issues and eventual engine failure. Regular inspections are crucial.
Other potential issues include occasional electrical glitches, particularly with the navigation or entertainment systems. Some owners have reported problems with the fuel sending unit. Recalls have been issued for various issues across the C6 generation, including potential headlight failures and airbag malfunctions; checking the VIN with the NHTSA database is recommended to identify any outstanding recalls for a specific vehicle.
Long-term reliability largely depends on maintenance and driving habits. High-performance models like the Z06 and ZR1 require more diligent maintenance schedules. Proper oil changes, cooling system maintenance, and regular inspections are essential to mitigate potential problems and ensure longevity.

How long will the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette last?

With proper maintenance, a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette can easily reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Years of service often exceed 10-15 years. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and addressing issues promptly are crucial. Long-term durability depends heavily on usage; track use will accelerate wear. Weaknesses can emerge in the suspension components (bushings, shocks) and the aforementioned engine-related issues (harmonic balancer, valve guides in the Z06) if not maintained proactively. The interior might show wear and tear with age, depending on care.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 Corvette's built-in tech is fairly basic by modern standards. Standard features include a CD player, satellite radio, and dual-zone climate control. Higher trims or optional packages added features like navigation, a head-up display, and a premium Bose sound system.
Driver-assistance features are limited compared to contemporary cars. Standard safety features include antilock brakes, traction control, and stability control. Side airbags were also standard. Blind-spot monitoring and lane departure warning were *not* available.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA are mixed, with some tests showing good results and others raising concerns about side-impact protection. The IIHS did not fully evaluate the 2013 Corvette.
Optional features included upgraded leather upholstery, heated seats, and a removable roof panel (on coupes). While not cutting-edge, the tech and safety features are adequate for the car's intended purpose as a performance vehicle, though drivers expecting advanced driver-assistance systems will be disappointed. Keep in mind that these are performance vehicles and driver skill plays a significant role in safety.

2013 Chevrolet Corvette Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ranged from approximately $50,000 for a base model to over $115,000 for a ZR1. Current used market prices vary widely depending on mileage, condition, and trim, ranging from around $25,000 to $60,000+. The Corvette depreciates, but performance models like the Z06 and ZR1 hold their value better due to their rarity and desirability. Low mileage, excellent condition, and a clean title significantly improve resale value. The C7 generation's introduction also impacts the C6's depreciation curve.

2013 Chevrolet Corvette Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for a 2013 Corvette can be higher than average due to its performance capabilities. Fuel costs depend on driving habits, but expect moderate to high expenses. Maintenance costs are reasonable for the base model, but higher for Z06 and ZR1 variants due to specialized parts and maintenance needs. Repairs can be costly, especially for engine-related issues. Overall, the 2013 Corvette is not the most economical car to own, especially the high-performance trims. Long-term costs can be mitigated by preventative maintenance.

2013 Chevrolet Corvette Insurance

Insurance for a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Convertible with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Compare to Other Convertible?

The 2013 Corvette competes with cars like the Porsche 911, Nissan GT-R, and BMW M3/M4. In terms of performance, the Corvette often matches or exceeds its rivals, particularly the ZR1. However, the Porsche 911 offers a more refined driving experience and a higher-quality interior. The GT-R provides similar performance with all-wheel drive for added grip. The BMW M3/M4 offers a more practical daily driving experience.
In terms of features, the Corvette lags behind some competitors in tech and driver-assistance systems. Reliability is generally good, but potential engine issues with the Z06 are a concern. Price is a major advantage for the Corvette, offering comparable performance for significantly less money than many rivals.
Alternatives include a used Porsche 911 (for refinement), a Nissan GT-R (for all-weather performance), or a newer Chevrolet Corvette (C7 or C8) for updated technology and design. A well-maintained, lower mileage Porsche Cayman S might also provide similar driving fun and performance for a similar price on the used market, though with less overall power.

Final Verdict: Is the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette a Good Convertible?

The 2013 Chevrolet Corvette is ideal for enthusiasts seeking a powerful and iconic sports car at a relatively affordable price. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, if you're aware of potential maintenance needs and prioritize performance over the latest technology. A Grand Sport offers a good balance of performance and value. The Z06 and ZR1 are for serious enthusiasts willing to invest in proper maintenance. Inspect any used Corvette thoroughly before purchase, paying particular attention to engine-related issues. If you need more refined features, a newer model or a competitor might be a better choice.

Awesome American Sports Car

I just purchased a base 2009 3LT Corvette. The car is stylish and a blast to drive. It is rock solid in the turns and rides exceptionally well. The acceleration and handling are, without a doubt, beyond great for a base model car. I'm 6'5 and fit very comfortably behind the wheel. It will be hard to find an American made sports car this good at such a very affordable price?

Overall best Sports Car for your money

This car has exceeded many of my expectations. I got my 2013 C6 base model in 2019. For a 6 year old, American sports car, I pictured it being a fun, quick thrill, but it was so much more than that. When you get in, you immediately get that exotic super car, low to the ground feeling. There’s a good amount of legroom for me and I’m 5”11. The leather seats are electronically controlled. With the press of the push-button start, it’s typical to any V8 sound, however; when you put it in drive, you fly. For a $32,000 car, I received the thrill of a lifetime on a consistent basis. Stock engine with dual exhaust option sits at 435 hp LS3 V8. The grip is similar to most Porsche and Lamborghini’s. If I had to recommend an affordable American sports car with an exotic super car feel, I’d have to go with the Corvettes. For the stock base model, it’s the most advanced, powerful, quickest, and fastest American made car of its decade. To give you an example, the 2013 Corvette C6 base model has the same engine as the 2016 Camaro SS, an upgraded model, and the 2016 Mustang GT, which is upgraded from the Mustang base model and the eco-boost model. Not only is the performance the best, it’s also known to be a long-lasting model. Currently, there’s a 2000 Corvette in the National Corvette Museum with 773,338 miles on it’s stock engine. Enough said. I highly recommend this car for a summer and fall, pleasurable vehicle.

Absolute blast to drive, poor interior.

As exciting as it is to drive, it cost more to maintain the cheap interior than the bullet proof engine. From steering wheels and seat covers that wear out the first year to unsafe plastic seat frames that cost over a grand to fix.(Driving with pillows behind the seat).Repetitive complaints of transmission problems that do not show up on service history because they can not duplicate the problem. LOVE TO DRIVE THIS CAR! Recommend car not dealer.

The Best Car I have ever owned.

This is my 5th Corvette Convertible, and my 2nd retirement car. I had ordered and purchased a 2008 Corvette Convertible, then in 2012 when I heard after 36 years Chevrolet was going to put their 427 hand built engine in the convertible for the last C6 year, I was hooked. I traded in my 2008, which had 430 hp, when I watched my 2013 427 Collector Edition (see photos) arrive on the transport it was "MAGIC". I know, pun on the Sleepless in Seattle, but very true. I named her Lady, she does what you want her to do, if you decide you want to put your foot in it, please make sure you have room to do that because you will be there before you expect to. She is the best Vette I have ever owned, I'm 75, and thinking lets get my 3rd and final retirement car, and I will look at the 2020 mid-engine convertible in early 2020. Beautiful car, if your love Corvette's and want a special car, then number 544 of only 2,552 ever built by Chevrolet is the one. I purchased this car to drive, have taken trips with it, California to see my sister and husband, Oregon coast, California coast, high school reunions, Yellowstone, Arizona, Seattle, Glacier National Park, it is a road car, and you can drive it in town and traffic, no problem, and on the road, if you behave, you will get 27 mpg and higher if really careful. I have the binder and paperwork to support everything ever done to/for "Lady".

2013 Corvette Grand Sport

Corvette Grand Sport Rocks! 60th anniversary and last year of the C6. Say no more. Been wanting a Vette since I was 12 and now at 58 finally having the awesome Vette experience. The car is just as fun to wash as it is to drive....OK maybe not as fun to drive but what a car!
