The Good
The 2011 Mazda CX-7 offers a sporty and engaging driving experience, appealing to those who enjoy a responsive vehicle. Its stylish design and comfortable interior provide a sense of quality. While not the most fuel-efficient, it presents a good value for those prioritizing performance and features over economy. It is fun to drive and practical for small families.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2011 Mazda CX-7 include turbocharger issues (especially in earlier models and the turbocharged trims), relatively poor fuel economy compared to some competitors, and potential for higher maintenance costs. Watch out for oil consumption, timing chain wear, and ensure proper turbocharger maintenance has been performed. Rust can also be a concern in certain climates.

What Problems Does the 2011 Mazda CX-7 Have?
Timing chain stretching and subsequent failure is another frequently reported problem, which can also lead to engine damage. Regular oil changes are crucial to prevent this. Oil leaks, particularly from the valve cover gasket and turbocharger lines, are also common.
Some owners have reported issues with the variable valve timing (VVT) actuator. This can cause rough idling and decreased engine performance. Recalls have been issued for various issues across the CX-7's production run, including fuel leaks and corrosion problems. It is essential to check the vehicle's VIN for outstanding recalls before purchasing. Long-term reliability can be a concern due to these potential issues, so a thorough inspection and maintenance history review are crucial before buying a used 2011 CX-7.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Entertainment features varied by trim level. Base models featured a basic AM/FM/CD audio system. Upper trims offered a Bose premium audio system and a multi-information display.
Driver-assistance features were limited, with optional features like a rearview camera and blind-spot monitoring available on higher trims. Navigation was also available as an option.
Crash test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA provide insights into the vehicle's safety performance. The NHTSA gave the 2011 CX-7 an overall score of 4 out of 5 stars. The IIHS rated it "Good" in several crash tests. However, ratings can vary depending on the specific test. Keep in mind that safety technology has significantly advanced since 2011, so newer vehicles typically offer superior safety features. The features were adequate for the time period, but are now considered basic compared to modern vehicles.

How Does the 2011 Mazda CX-7 Compare to Other Wagon?
In terms of reliability, the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 generally outperform the CX-7. The Ford Escape offered similar performance characteristics but had its own reliability issues. The Chevrolet Equinox offered a more comfortable ride but lacked the sporty handling of the CX-7.
Pricing for a used CX-7 is often competitive. However, considering reliability and fuel economy, the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 are often better choices for long-term reliability and lower running costs, despite potentially costing slightly more upfront. If sporty handling isn't a top priority, these alternatives are generally recommended. The Hyundai Tucson from a similar year could also be a better alternative due to longer warranty and possibly better reliability.

My car has less than 50000 miles and had to replace turboMy car has less than 50000 miles and had to replace turbo and not covered by Mazda but they will cover a air-conditioner compressor but not the turbo??? And you knew the motor and turbo were not compatible. Not very good customer relation situation.

Low cost of ownershipOwned for 6 years. Almost no maintenance required. Just oil changes, new brakes and tires at usual intervals. Great car. Runs well. Performs okay in snow. Better with snow or all season tires. 4 cylinder engine is fine for city use but not great when more power is needed for accelerating and highway passing. Design is good but becoming dated. Interior is good but some nice features are only found on the highest trim level, grand touring.

Exciting new rideThis car meets all of my needs! It's fun to drive and it is a comfortable ride. A great every day driver because it also gets decent gas mileage. Not to mention, the speakers sound pretty decent.

Fun CarFun car to drive with excellent fuel economy. Minimal maintenance. Oil changes, rotate tires and a battery. Have 87000 miles on it and still runs great.

Most reliable car I have ever own. Great featuresThis car met all of my needs. It has enough leg room front and back and to be a 4 cylinder it drove like a 6 cylinder. It has turbo engines and a sunroof that I love. I brought it in 2013 with only 12,000 miles and had minimum issues. My best car so far.

don't recommendnice bose system, got the car less than a year & put 4k miles on it started to have engine problem cost a lot to fix, have warranty for it but the dealer is taking more than 2 months (Alpha Motors in Ma) and still having me wait while driving my car around with check engine camshaft problem. not good on gas mileage. Now i get a notice saying there is a recall for it.

Great car for the money. This is a great car, very reliable and handles like a sports car. I even took this little SUV over a Colorado mountain pass that was for 4WD vehicles, and it was a beast ! Handles like a dream on the twisting, turning mountain roads of Colorado.
