The Good
The 2007 RX-8 offers a thrilling, high-revving driving experience that appeals to enthusiasts. Its unique rotary engine delivers smooth power and nimble handling. The design is sporty and distinctive. While not supremely comfortable, the RX-8 offers usable rear seats, making it more practical than some sports cars. For emotional buyers, it&s the unique engine; for practical buyers, it's the relatively affordable price for a sports car.
The Bad
The RX-8's biggest weakness is the rotary engine's apex seal wear, potentially leading to engine failure. Oil consumption is also a common issue. Fuel economy is poor compared to piston-engine alternatives. Premature catalytic converter failure is another concern. Potential buyers should also watch out for compression issues during a pre-purchase inspection, which can be costly to repair.

What Problems Does the 2007 Mazda RX-8 Have?
Catalytic converter failure is also frequently reported. If the engine isn't running optimally, excess fuel can enter the catalytic converter, causing it to overheat and fail. Ignition coil failures are another common issue, leading to misfires and poor performance. Regular spark plug replacement is vital to minimize this. There were some recalls related to fuel pump issues, which could cause the engine to stall. Check the NHTSA website for specific recall information related to VINs. Long-term reliability is a significant concern due to the inherent nature of the rotary engine and the potential for expensive repairs. Prior model years (2004-2006) faced similar issues, making thorough pre-purchase inspections essential.
How long will the 2007 Mazda RX-8 last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern cars. It had standard traction control and stability control (Dynamic Stability Control - DSC).
Safety features included front airbags, side airbags, and side curtain airbags. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were also standard.
Crash test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) for the 2007 RX-8 show mixed results. While it performed well in some categories, it received marginal ratings in others, particularly in side-impact tests. NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) ratings should also be consulted for a more complete picture of its safety performance. It's crucial to check the latest safety information from official sources before making a purchase decision. It lacked advanced driver-assistance systems common in newer vehicles like lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking. The technology was adequate for its time, but clearly lags behind modern standards.

Would Avoid.Great interior and exterior styling. My very first call i ever owned. 7 months in, i was already changing my spark plugs because of the rotary engine frying them. Would Avoid unless you plan on doing a engine swap.

My RX8 has been my daily driver for 9 years!Still loving this car after 9 years! Handles like a damn Porsche, and sounds like nothing else on the road. A consistent head turner, the design of this car is amazing. This car gets a bad rap from people not taking care of it properly, but if you follow the guidelines, it can be a freaking incredible value, and the most fun you'll ever have for the money. I can't say enough good things, I wish this car would last forever!

Fun, fun, fun!I bought this car new in 2007 and have been enjoying it ever since. I have the six speed manual and the whole setup is is mechanically tight and exhilarating. This is one of those cars that was built from the ground up and you feel it. The outside design still stands up, even though itβs been 15 years since its original release. The handling on dry roads is outstanding with its near perfect 50/50 weight distribution. On wet or slippery roads it does not inspire nearly the same confidence. The rotary has been extremely reliable, though I have had to educate myself on de-flooding techniques to spare the tow truck once or twice a year. My son is anxiously waiting for me to hand over the keys, but right now Iβm still having too much fun.

Best good looking car i ever hadItβs a very sporty looking car using for work Very reliable and no issues at all . Overall I really like to buy one when first just came out in the market but couldnβt afford the price until someone put for sale and grab it right away wt a good price, have my mechanic checked and all is great,

Regret selling it, tons of fun with proper careIt's a rwd sports car so you get what you would expect, terrible in the snow but a monster in the corners. Perfectly balanced, unique styling and the last production rotary ever. The most unique car I've ever owned and I'll definitely be looking for another one soon. Dont be scared by the reviews about engines blowing up, take care of it and PREMIX! Take car it it and it will take care of you.

Extremely fun to driveThis car is a lot of fun and can be a daily driver and still be a sports car. I actually own two of them.

Fun, Quirky Car For EnthusiastsThis is an enthusiasts car. The transmission is wonderful, the steering is heavy and direct, and the transmission is a dream. With the rear seats and doors, there's actually a decent amount of space. It's not the most powerful car. It's quick but not fast. It's just a blast to drive. Puts a smile on my face every time I bring it up to the 9000 RPM redline. There are some quirks to owning it, like having to check the oil very frequently, and not so ideal gas mileage, but the quirks are worth the experience you get from it. Fantastic vehicle.

A small beastI love the way it looks, the way it drives, the way it feels, the way it sounds....The car starts and you are hooked on it. It makes you want to drive it. When you do drive it, it feels like a dream ride as far as handling and responsiveness. It lacks AC in extreme heat. The RX8 produces a lot of heat. The special engine needs to be cared for. Check the oil every couple of fill ups. Know the car and it will treat you well. It dislikes extreme heat and the engine needs to be warm in cold weather before you turn it off.
