What Problems Does the 2019 Ford Transit Connect Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Ford Transit Connect include issues with the transmission, particularly harsh shifting or slipping. Some owners have reported problems with the infotainment system, such as screen freezing or connectivity issues. The diesel engine, when equipped, has been known to have potential issues with the emissions system. There have been some recalls issued for the 2019 model year, often related to safety concerns such as potential fuel leaks or airbag malfunctions. Check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information specific to your VIN. Long-term reliability can be affected by the van's usage. Commercial use, involving heavy loads and frequent stops, can accelerate wear and tear on components like brakes, suspension, and the transmission. Proper maintenance, including regular fluid changes and inspections, is crucial for extending the lifespan of the vehicle. Ignoring minor issues can lead to more significant and costly repairs down the line. Some owners have also reported problems with the sliding door mechanism, particularly with the rollers and latches. Thorough inspection and lubrication can help prevent these issues.

How long will the 2019 Ford Transit Connect last?

With good maintenance, a 2019 Ford Transit Connect can realistically provide 150,000-200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Proper maintenance, including regular oil changes, transmission fluid services, and timely replacement of wear items, is crucial. Weaknesses tend to emerge in the transmission (potential slipping or harsh shifting), suspension components (especially with heavy use), and potentially the infotainment system. Rust can also be a concern in areas with harsh winters and road salt. Addressing minor issues promptly can prevent larger problems down the road and extend the vehicle's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Ford Transit Connect offers a range of built-in tech and safety features. Standard entertainment includes a basic audio system with AM/FM radio and USB port. Higher trims feature Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system with a touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. Optional features include navigation, premium audio systems, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Driver-assistance features vary by trim. Standard safety features include a rearview camera, antilock brakes, and stability control. Available options include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control is available on the Titanium trim.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be checked for the 2019 model year. Typically, the Transit Connect performs reasonably well in crash tests, offering acceptable levels of protection for occupants. However, ratings may vary depending on the specific test and model configuration. More comprehensive safety packages were typically found on higher trim levels such as the XLT and Titanium. The availability of advanced safety tech made the higher trims more appealing to buyers prioritizing safety.

2019 Ford Transit Connect Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Ford Transit Connect ranged from around $25,000 for a base XL cargo van to approximately $31,000 for a fully equipped Titanium passenger wagon. Current used market prices vary greatly depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. Expect to find used models ranging from around $15,000 to $25,000. Depreciation is influenced by factors like mileage, condition, accident history, and overall demand for compact vans. Well-maintained models with lower mileage and desirable features (like advanced safety tech or a clean title) hold their value better. Commercial use can negatively affect resale value if the van shows signs of heavy wear and tear.

2019 Ford Transit Connect Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Ford Transit Connect is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel economy is a strong point, especially with the diesel engine (if equipped). Maintenance is generally straightforward, but potential transmission issues could lead to higher repair costs. Regular servicing is vital to avoid major problems. Overall, the Transit Connect is less expensive to own than larger vans, but potential repair costs, especially concerning the transmission, should be factored into the long-term ownership considerations.

2019 Ford Transit Connect Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Ford Transit Connect is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Van with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Ford Transit Connect Compare to Other Van?

The 2019 Ford Transit Connect competes with vehicles like the Ram ProMaster City, Nissan NV200, and Mercedes-Benz Metris. Compared to the ProMaster City, the Transit Connect often offers better fuel economy and a slightly more refined driving experience. The Nissan NV200 is typically more affordable but lacks some of the features and power of the Transit Connect. The Mercedes-Benz Metris offers more power and luxury but comes at a significantly higher price point.
In terms of reliability, the Transit Connect's transmission issues can be a concern compared to some rivals. However, its compact size and maneuverability make it a strong choice for urban environments. If reliability is a top priority and budget allows, the Toyota Sienna (though a minivan and not a direct competitor) can be considered as a more reliable alternative for passenger transport. The Ram ProMaster City offers similar cargo capacity, but the Transit Connect usually wins in terms of fuel efficiency. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual needs and priorities – price, cargo space, fuel economy, and desired features should all be considered. If you need more space or towing capacity, consider a full-size van, but for urban deliveries and smaller businesses, the Transit Connect is often a good fit.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Ford Transit Connect a Good Van?

The 2019 Ford Transit Connect is ideal for small businesses, delivery services, and individuals needing a compact and fuel-efficient cargo or passenger van, especially in urban areas. It's worth buying used if you find a well-maintained model with a reasonable price, but be sure to have the transmission thoroughly inspected. The XLT trim offers a good balance of features and value. Avoid models with a history of transmission problems. If you prioritize reliability above all else, consider alternatives. However, for its blend of efficiency, maneuverability, and affordability, the Transit Connect remains a compelling choice, provided you are aware of its potential weaknesses. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is highly recommended.
