The Chevrolet Blazer, revived in 2019, is a mid-size SUV with a sporty design that sets it apart. The 2022 Blazer continues this trend, offering a blend of style and practicality. Its body style is a five-door SUV. Key trims include the L, LT, RS, and Premier. The pricing range typically spans from the low $30,000s to the mid $40,000s, depending on the trim and options. The Blazer's aggressive styling, reminiscent of the Camaro, and its available V6 engine make it a popular choice for those seeking a more engaging SUV experience.
The Good

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer offers a compelling blend of performance, particularly with the V6 engine, and striking design that appeals to emotional buyers. Practical buyers will appreciate the comfortable interior, ample cargo space, and available all-wheel drive for enhanced safety and reliability in various weather conditions. Its competitive price point also adds to its value proposition.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer include a less refined interior compared to some competitors, and the base engine can feel underpowered for some drivers. Fuel economy, especially with the V6, isn't class-leading. Also, be mindful of potential electrical issues and ensure all features function correctly before purchasing. Some reviews mention that certain trim levels can become quite expensive.

What Problems Does the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer, and in some preceding model years, often revolve around the electrical system. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system freezing, malfunctioning sensors, and problems with the automatic start/stop feature. There have also been complaints about the transmission experiencing rough shifting in some cases. While not widespread, these issues are worth noting.

Recalls can vary, so it's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the latest recall information specific to the 2022 model year. Common recall items across multiple years of the Blazer have included issues with the rearview camera, potential fuel leaks, and problems with the seat belts.

Long-term reliability concerns generally focus on the long-term durability of the electrical components and the transmission. Owners should adhere to the recommended maintenance schedule, including regular fluid checks and replacements, to mitigate potential issues. Keeping up-to-date with any software updates provided by Chevrolet can also help address some of the reported electrical glitches. Before purchasing a used 2022 Blazer, a thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended, paying close attention to these potential problem areas.

How long will the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer last?

With proper maintenance, a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years. This assumes regular oil changes, timely replacement of wear items (brakes, tires), and adherence to the manufacturer's recommended service schedule. Long-term durability can be affected by driving habits and environmental conditions. Weaknesses over time may include gradual degradation of the suspension components, potential for increased electrical issues, and wear and tear on interior materials. Preventive maintenance and addressing minor issues promptly are key to maximizing longevity.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer comes equipped with a range of built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard tech includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trims offer features like a premium Bose audio system, navigation, and a wireless charging pad.

Driver-assistance features are abundant, with standard features like automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and forward collision alert. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring, enhancing safety and convenience. The RS trim offers a unique performance suspension and enhanced handling capabilities.

Safety features include a suite of airbags, stability control, and traction control. The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer has been crash-tested by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Check their respective websites for the latest ratings, as they can vary based on specific configurations. Generally, the Blazer performs well in crash tests, providing a good level of occupant protection. Features such as the available HD Surround Vision and Rear Camera Mirror can improve visibility and enhance safety during parking and maneuvering.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Prices and Market Value

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer had a starting MSRP in the low $30,000s when new, climbing into the mid-$40,000s for higher trims with options. Current used market prices vary based on condition, mileage, and trim, but typically range from the mid-$20,000s to the low $40,000s. Depreciation is influenced by factors such as vehicle condition, mileage, accident history, and overall market demand. Well-maintained Blazers with lower mileage and a clean title will command higher resale values. The availability of desirable features and packages also impacts resale value.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer's long-term ownership costs can be moderate. Insurance costs are generally average for its class. Fuel costs can be higher with the V6 engine. Maintenance costs are typical for a Chevrolet, with routine services like oil changes and tire rotations being relatively affordable. Repairs can become more expensive if electrical or transmission issues arise. Overall, it's not the most economical SUV to own, especially with the V6, but it's also not excessively costly compared to some competitors.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer competes with SUVs like the Ford Edge, Honda Passport, Nissan Murano, and Hyundai Santa Fe. In terms of performance, the Blazer's V6 engine offers a more engaging driving experience than some competitors' base engines. Feature-wise, it's generally competitive, but some rivals offer more standard safety features or a more luxurious interior feel. Reliability is a mixed bag, with some owners reporting issues not commonly found in the Honda Passport or Hyundai Santa Fe, which often have higher reliability ratings. Price-wise, the Blazer is generally in line with its competitors, but higher trims can become expensive.

Alternatives to consider include the Honda Passport, known for its reliability and spacious interior; the Hyundai Santa Fe, offering excellent value and a long warranty; and the Ford Edge, which provides a comfortable ride and available performance upgrades. If reliability is a top priority, the Honda Passport is a strong contender. If value and warranty are key, the Hyundai Santa Fe is worth considering. If you desire a sporty driving experience, the Blazer or the Ford Edge ST (though at a higher price point) are good choices.

Ranks #750 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is ideal for buyers who prioritize style and a sportier driving experience in a mid-size SUV. It's worth buying if you appreciate its Camaro-inspired design and available V6 power. However, consider potential reliability concerns and compare it closely with rivals like the Honda Passport and Hyundai Santa Fe. A used 2022 Blazer, thoroughly inspected and with a clean history, can offer good value. The RS trim is appealing for its sporty aesthetic, while the LT trim can be a good balance of features and price. Evaluate your needs and priorities carefully before making a decision.

Recently purchased the Chevrolet Blazer 2LT Midnight

Recently purchased the Chevrolet Blazer 2LT Midnight Sport Edition SUV and absolutely love this vehicle. The Blazer has a very nice, sporty, and unique design. The 2.0 Turbo 4 cylinder engine delivers plenty of horsepower at 228 HP. I'm used to driving a V6 engine and was concerned about the performance and I can honestly say it delivers a solid performance. It drives very smooth and has great gas mileage, 29 mpg highway and 22 mpg city. The interior is designed well, the cloth seats are comfortable and this Blazer is very spacious. The technology is easy to use and has Wi-Fi connectivity. I highly recommend this Chevrolet Blazer to anyone looking for an affordable SUV that looks great and has solid performance.

Heat/Computer

I have a 22 Blazer. Overall a very good vehicle. However interior is a little cheap. Exterior is fine. However I have had 2 incidents involving the engine. Computer required complete reboot. In less then a week another issue = heat check valve malfunction. Complete tear down of cooling system and computer reload. Took 3 days but the dealer was very good. All under warranty. Only issues.

2022 Chevy Blazer RS

I have a 2022 Chevy blazer RS. Loved everything about this vehicle. Love the style, handling, acceleration. I just enjoy driving this vehicle. But at 4800 miles the actuary module went on it. I was very disappointed for the money I spent on this vehicle for something like this to happen so early. It was replaced so time will tell if it happens again. I bought a new car because I wanted reliable transportation but now it’s always in the back of my mind that something could happen again.

Awesome vehicle all except for 1 thing!!

I recently took delivery of my second Blazer. My first was a brand new 2019 fully loaded Premier and I liked the vehicle so much I leased another one. This time an RS. I really enjoy driving the new Blazer. I find it very comfortable and I’m a male 5’11” 260 lbs. I get a lot of compliments on this Blazer everywhere I go so naturally I find the styling to awesome. The infotainment system works great. The Bose audio system sounds unreal and having Onstar is really nice as well. Gives me piece of mind. The performance overall with the vehicle is really decent. I wouldn’t say it leans on the high performance spectrum but to be honest it’s not that far off. Handling is really good too and the Blazer comes with a ton of safety equipment which I think is great. My only complaint with this vehicle is you almost have to Lease it or buy a used one. Because the price is really steep for what it is. It’s a sporty mid-sized SUV with NO 3rd row with some decent refinements and equipment for an MSRP of almost $52,000. That’s a lot of money. I know nothing is cheap today but I think GM priced this vehicle way too high. By at least $5,000 to $6,000 easily for what it is. (Supply issues aside) Chevrolet would sell a lot more of these if the price was just a bit lower in my opinion and I’m pretty well in tune with this. I’m actually a sales manager at Chevrolet dealership in Massachusetts and have been in the sales and operations end of the car business since 1997. Thank you for reading my review. Cheers!

Good Purchase

My Chevy Blazer was a really good purchase for me. The Blazer handles well on the road, has an acceleration that keeps up with other SUV's in its class, and has a comfortable ride with plenty of room for all. This Blazer really looks good and I have received many compliments about its design. I appreciate all the safety features that it offers. I feel that this Blazer gave me more bang for my buck, other SUV's would have charged me for. Thanks to Joe L. Rice Jr. at Weber Chevrolet (Olive & 270) for his expertise as a great Sales Professional. He gave me all the knowledge that I needed to make my purchase and I am so happy. Thank you.

LOVE MY BLAZER

Bought my 2022 2LT 2.0 Blazer February 1, 2022. I am getting 23 mpg city and 27 Hwy. It is recommended using 93 octane. The Blazer handles, accelerates, and rides good. I really like the driver convenience package and the new safety features are really great. I have the Redline Edition and I believe the Blazer looks really good. I currently have 3200 miles on the Blazer.

A very good choice

I have the Premier edition, which has all of the bella and whistles. It's performance is really great and the mileage is 27 on the highway. I have the V6 which has more power than you'd ever need and runs on regular fuel. It's just right for the 1400 mile trips I take a couple times a year. I'm extremely satisfied with it, as are all the other people I know that own one.
