The Good
The 2002 Camry Solara excels in reliability, offering peace of mind. Its comfortable ride and stylish design provide an enjoyable experience. The available V6 engine delivers adequate performance. Fuel efficiency is decent for its class. It's a practical choice for those seeking dependable transportation, while the coupe/convertible styling appeals to those wanting something a bit more exciting than a standard sedan.
The Bad
The 2002 Camry Solara's weaknesses include potential issues with the automatic transmission, particularly in the V6 models. Some owners have reported oil leaks and electrical problems. The rear seats can feel cramped, and the convertible top (if equipped) may require maintenance. Rust can also be a concern in regions with harsh winters. Pre-purchase inspections are highly recommended.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2002 Toyota Camry Solara Have?
While the 2002 Solara didn't have a high number of recalls, it's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety issues. Long-term reliability concerns mainly revolve around the aging components and the need for regular maintenance. Owners should pay close attention to the condition of rubber parts like hoses and belts, as these can deteriorate over time. The convertible top mechanism (if applicable) also requires periodic maintenance to ensure proper operation and prevent leaks. Overall, the 2002 Solara is generally reliable, but potential buyers should be aware of these common issues and conduct a thorough inspection before purchasing.
How long will the 2002 Toyota Camry Solara last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited to cruise control and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Safety features included front airbags and side airbags were optional. Anti-lock brakes and traction control were also available.
Crash test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) are available, and the Solara generally performed well for its time, though it's important to remember that safety standards have improved significantly since 2002. It's recommended to consult these agencies' websites for specific crash test results. Optional features included a sunroof, leather seats, and upgraded wheels. Given its age, the 2002 Camry Solara lacks modern tech conveniences but offers a reliable and safe driving experience for its time.

How Does the 2002 Toyota Camry Solara Compare to Other Coupe?
In terms of price, the Solara offered a good value proposition, especially on the used market. The Accord Coupe is a similar alternative, offering comparable reliability and features. The Eclipse provides sportier styling and handling but may not be as reliable long-term. For those prioritizing reliability and affordability, the Solara is a good choice. If a sportier driving experience is desired, the Mazda 626 Coupe (though older) or a newer, well-maintained Eclipse might be considered, but with caution regarding reliability. If looking for a convertible, the Solara provides a reliable, albeit not particularly sporty, option. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities.

Like the energizer bunny, it keeps going and goingI now have 431,000 miles on my Camry Solera Convertible. No major repairs. Well maintained but no garage so the paint looks disastrous. I am wondering if it is cost effective to paint it.
