Eugene S | March 31, 2025
The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette, a legendary American sports car, represents the seventh generation (C7) of this iconic vehicle. Available as a coupe or convertible, it offers thrilling performance and striking design. Key trims include the Stingray, Grand Sport, and Z06, each building upon the previous in performance and features. Pricing typically ranges from $45,000 to $85,000 depending on the trim and options. Its blend of powerful engines, advanced technology, and relatively accessible price point makes it a popular choice.
The Good

The 2017 Corvette boasts exhilarating performance and a head-turning design, appealing to emotional buyers. For practical buyers, it offers surprising fuel efficiency for its class, reasonable reliability, and a relatively affordable price compared to European rivals. The comfortable interior and available tech further enhance its appeal as a daily driver.

The Bad

Weaknesses of the 2017 Corvette can include potential issues with the automatic transmission (specifically the 8-speed), and the infotainment system can occasionally be buggy. What Problems Does the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette sometimes include issues with the 8-speed automatic transmission, such as rough shifting or shuddering. Some owners have experienced problems with the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, leading to engine hesitation or unusual noises. Infotainment system glitches, including unresponsive touchscreens or connectivity problems, have also been reported. There have been recalls related to airbag deployment and fuel system issues. Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the aforementioned transmission and AFM system problems, which can potentially lead to costly repairs over time. It's important to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls and to thoroughly inspect the transmission for any signs of issues before purchasing. Some owners have also reported issues with the paint, particularly chipping or peeling, especially on earlier model years within the C7 generation. Regularly checking and maintaining the car's systems, fluids, and performing scheduled maintenance can help mitigate some potential reliability concerns.

How long will the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette last?

With good maintenance habits, a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette can easily reach 150,000 miles or more. Many owners report 10-15 years of service. However, long-term durability depends heavily on maintenance. Weaknesses over time, as mentioned before, can include transmission issues with the 8-speed automatic and potential problems with the AFM system. Regular fluid changes, proper cooling system maintenance, and addressing any issues promptly will significantly extend the vehicle's lifespan. Climate and driving conditions also play a crucial role in longevity.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette comes with a range of built-in tech features. The standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also features a rearview camera and dual-zone automatic climate control. Available entertainment features include a Bose premium audio system and navigation. Driver-assistance features are relatively limited compared to modern cars but include available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Safety features include standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. Optional performance features include Magnetic Ride Control, which adapts the suspension to road conditions for improved handling.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS are not comprehensive for the Corvette, but available data generally shows good performance. The absence of extensive driver-assistance systems like adaptive cruise control or lane-keeping assist should be noted. The performance data recorder allows drivers to capture and analyze their driving performance on the track.

2017 Chevrolet Corvette Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette ranged from around $55,000 for a base Stingray to over $85,000 for a fully equipped Z06. Current used market prices range from approximately $40,000 to $70,000, depending on trim, mileage, and condition. Depreciation is relatively moderate compared to other sports cars. Factors affecting resale value include trim level (Z06 holds its value best), mileage, condition, and the presence of desirable options. Low mileage examples in excellent condition will command premium prices.

2017 Chevrolet Corvette Cost of Ownership

The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette's ownership costs can be moderate to high. Insurance premiums are typically higher than average due to its sports car classification and performance capabilities. Fuel costs can be significant, especially with the Z06 model. While maintenance is generally reasonable, potential repairs, particularly those involving the transmission or AFM system, can be costly. Overall, it's not the most economical car to own but offers a compelling performance-to-cost ratio.

2017 Chevrolet Corvette Insurance

Insurance for a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Convertible with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Compare to Other Convertible?

The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette competes with sports cars like the Porsche 911, BMW M4, and Nissan GT-R. In terms of performance, the Corvette offers comparable acceleration and handling at a lower price point. Feature-wise, the Corvette provides a decent level of tech, but may lack some of the advanced driver-assistance features found in the BMW or Porsche. Reliability can be a concern compared to the Porsche, as the Corvette has had some documented issues.
Alternatives to the Corvette include:
  • Porsche 911: Superior handling and a more refined interior, but significantly more expensive.
  • BMW M4: A more balanced blend of performance and luxury, with a more modern tech suite, but not as raw or visceral as the Corvette.
  • Nissan GT-R: Offers similar performance to the Z06, but with a more dated interior and less engaging driving experience.
If reliability and luxury are top priorities, the Porsche or BMW might be better choices. If raw performance and value are key, the Corvette is hard to beat. For a similar balance of performance and price, consider a well-maintained Nissan GT-R.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette a Good Convertible?

The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette is ideal for driving enthusiasts seeking high performance and a striking design at a relatively accessible price. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, if you're comfortable with potential maintenance costs. A Grand Sport model offers a good balance of performance and features. Consider a pre-purchase inspection to check for transmission issues. It's a great choice for those who value raw power and driving enjoyment over ultimate refinement or extensive driver-assistance features. If you prioritize long-term reliability above all else, then perhaps consider a different vehicle.

Power, excitement, and class = Stingray !!

I bought my 2017 Lt1, Z51 Stingray Coupe new in Daytona, Fl. It’s beautifully designed and has so much to offer. You feel like you’re in a race car, only you’re wayyy more comfortable! Pop the top off, and place it in the ‘locked in’ storage for it in the back. Mine is an everyday driver and I love her very much. I’d buy her again, because she definitely Is,…‘The Heartbeat of America’!

2017 GS with supercharger & auto!

I've had my 2017 GS with a Vortech supercharger that was added by previous owner (has 22K miles) for 3 months. This being my 4th vette, starting with a C3, a C5Z, and a twin turbo C5, this is by far the most refined, with SO MANY FEATURES. These include a display setup YOUR WAY, suspension varieties adjuated at the turn of a know, easily modified exhaust tones, all for the drivers pleasure!!! Love the slot car feel, with F1 handling & plenty of thrust!!! My FIRST AUTO TRANS TOO!DRIVE her easy in traffic, or set to track mode, or even shift manually with paddles!!! YES I would buy another!!!

Love my Z06

My Z06 is everything I wanted in a sports car. I took a 400 mile trip in it and I was amazed at comfort and fuel economy for a long trip. The power is insane, but still get 25mpg on the interstate.

In love from the first mile.

Love this car. Even a few years after production it still turns heads and is a fantastic drive. My only minor criticism is the technology in the car lags a bit. Not much in terms of driver assitance, etc.

Supercar on a Budget

This is just an amazing value. I bought my base model C7 coupe with auto transmission for $48,513 plus tax and got 0% down 0% interest for five years. This is less than many pickup trucks and in the same league as upscale Mustangs. What was most surprising about the car was not performance. I expected this car to be fast and good handling, and I was not disappointed. What was surprising was comfort on the highway. The car is built to go fast, of course, and cruising the expressway at the speed limit or a few miles above it is as cushy as any car I have owned--and gets about 30 mpg. It's a little bouncy around town, but not excessive. I added sheepskin seat covers (no seat heating on the base car) and they made it even cushier. My daily driver is an AWD Dodge Challenger, a very nice and sporty car, but the Corvette is on a whole other level.

Amazing automobile.

If my Hellcat was a rocket, my Z06 is a fighter jet. Amazing performance. It takes curves at speed and stays flat. It’s like driving a slot car. I haven’t driven a Corvette since my brother’s C2, when I was a teenager. I was blown away then but the evolution of this car is mind blowing. There’s nothing else American made that even comes close.
