The 2015 GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV built on GM's long-standing truck platform. It offers a blend of capability and upscale features. Available in a traditional SUV body style, the 2015 Yukon is part of the fourth generation (2015-2020). Key trims include SLE, SLT, and Denali. Pricing ranged from approximately $47,000 to $67,000 when new. Its strong towing capacity and spacious interior are major draws for families and those needing to haul heavy loads.
The Good

The 2015 GMC Yukon boasts powerful engine options for confident towing and acceleration, appealing to practical buyers. Its spacious and well-appointed interior offers comfort for long trips. While not the most fuel-efficient, it provides a commanding presence and a sense of security that appeals to emotional buyers. Reliable drivetrain is a plus.

The Bad

The 2015 GMC Yukon can suffer from transmission issues, particularly in earlier models. Some owners report problems with the infotainment system and electrical glitches. Fuel economy is a notable weakness, especially in city driving. Premature wear of certain suspension components has also been reported. Watch out for oil consumption issues as well.

What Problems Does the 2015 GMC Yukon Have?

The 2015 GMC Yukon has some frequently reported problems. Transmission issues, particularly hard shifting or slipping, are common complaints. Some owners have experienced complete transmission failure. The infotainment system can be glitchy, with freezing screens and unresponsive touch controls. Oil consumption, where the engine burns excessive oil, is another noted concern. There have been recalls related to airbags, electrical systems, and fuel systems.
Long-term reliability can be a concern due to these issues. The Magnetic Ride Control suspension, standard on the Denali, can be expensive to repair. Owners should pay attention to the condition of the suspension components, as premature wear can occur. Regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly can help mitigate these problems. Some owners have reported issues with the AC system, especially in hotter climates.
While not specific to the 2015 model year alone, many of these problems persisted in similar GM SUVs from this era, suggesting a broader issue with certain components or designs. Checking for service records and a thorough inspection before purchase is highly recommended.

How long will the 2015 GMC Yukon last?

A 2015 GMC Yukon, with good maintenance, can easily reach 200,000 miles or more and provide 10-15 years of service. However, longevity depends heavily on maintenance habits. Neglecting regular oil changes, transmission services, and other scheduled maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan. Weaknesses over time include potential transmission issues, suspension wear, and electrical glitches. Rust can also be a factor in regions with harsh winters. Monitoring and addressing these issues proactively is key to maximizing the Yukon's lifespan.

Tooo Many recalls on the 2015 Yukon seat belt, no deployment of frontal & side air bags, loss of power steering and more. Not worth the risk..
Yukon owner
Everything I expected except the suspension. Riding in my Yukon is so bouncy, I feel my fillings may fall out. It is very uncomfortable on long trips. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone.
Jmcd
My truck has had 4 recalls in the 3 years I have had it. It has numerous small issues as driver seat moves over bumps , radio screen goes blank at times , rattles in the dash, fabric on seat not holding up, paint is showing rust coming through by back hatch . I am going to try another brand when my lease is up

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 GMC Yukon offers a range of tech and safety features. Standard features include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar, and a rearview camera. Higher trims add features like navigation, a premium Bose audio system, and rear-seat entertainment systems. Driver-assistance features on upper trims include forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring.
Optional features included adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and a head-up display. The infotainment system supports smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (though availability may vary depending on the specific system version).
Safety: The 2015 GMC Yukon received good crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings may vary depending on the specific test and trim level. It is important to check the specific crash test results for the Yukon model that you are considering.
Overall, the 2015 Yukon provides a reasonably modern suite of tech and safety features for its time, with optional upgrades enhancing the experience.

2015 GMC Yukon Prices and Market Value

The 2015 GMC Yukon's MSRP ranged from approximately $47,000 to $67,000 when new, depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices typically range from $20,000 to $35,000, depending on mileage, condition, and location. The Yukon has experienced significant depreciation due to age and high mileage. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, trim level (Denali models hold their value better), and demand for full-size SUVs. High mileage and any reported mechanical issues will negatively impact the resale price.

2015 GMC Yukon Cost of Ownership

The 2015 GMC Yukon is generally considered costly to own. Insurance premiums are typically higher due to its size and value. Fuel economy is poor, leading to significant fuel costs. Maintenance and repair costs can be substantial, particularly for transmission or suspension issues. Long-term ownership costs, including depreciation, fuel, insurance, maintenance, and potential repairs, make it a less economical choice compared to smaller or more fuel-efficient vehicles.

2015 GMC Yukon Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 GMC Yukon is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 GMC Yukon Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle?

The 2015 GMC Yukon competes with the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia. In terms of performance, the Yukon offers competitive engine options, similar to the Tahoe/Suburban. The Expedition offers a more powerful EcoBoost engine. Features are comparable across the board, with each offering similar tech and luxury options.
Reliability is where the Yukon falls slightly behind. The Toyota Sequoia generally enjoys a better reputation for reliability. The Ford Expedition can also have its share of issues. In terms of price, the Yukon typically falls in line with its GM counterparts but can be more expensive than a comparable Ford Expedition depending on the trim and condition.
Alternatives: The Toyota Sequoia is a strong alternative for buyers prioritizing reliability. The Ford Expedition offers a more modern and powerful engine. The Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban provides a similar experience at a potentially lower price point. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual needs and priorities. If reliability is paramount, the Sequoia is recommended. If maximizing value within the GM family is the goal, the Tahoe is worth consideration.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 GMC Yukon a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle?

The 2015 GMC Yukon is ideal for buyers needing a spacious SUV with strong towing capability and a comfortable ride. It's worth buying used if you find one in good condition with documented maintenance history, and are willing to accept the potential for higher running costs. A well-maintained SLT trim offers a good balance of features and value. Be cautious of high-mileage examples or those with a history of transmission problems. Thorough inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential before purchasing a used 2015 Yukon to mitigate potential risks. The Denali trim is attractive but comes with added maintenance costs.

BEWARE

Omg!! Have always took my car to a GMC dealership and have had nothing but PROBLEMS! Transmission went out at 85k, sensors gone and had to pay that.. It’s in the shop right now because now they say my engine is gone.. I really thought Critz was breaking my car but now I see it’s just a horrible vehicle.

Transmission issue.

Transmission went out 30k out of warranty. GM dealer quoted $8,000 to replace transmission. Took it to a different mechanic, had it fixed, but it was $5,200!!!! This is the 3rd Yukon I have owned. I love them, however I will not be buying another. I paid to much money to have a transmission that has to be replaced so soon.

Best vehicle we've ever purchased.

This vehicle provides everything our family needs in a vehicle. Very comfortable ride. Plenty of leg room. Give you the feeling of security from the way it handles on the road, to how comfortable you are inside. It meets all our needs and then some.

Terrible piece of GMC junk

Sits my family fine, just junk! Trying to sell or scrap. I will never buy a general motors vehicle again, no one makes a decent car anymore.

Can’t go wrong with a Denali

We needed a family vehicle for when we go out of town for comfort and space. We were looking for a Tahoe but instead found a beautiful Yukon Denali
