The 2014 GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV known for its spaciousness and capability. It is part of the third generation, spanning model years 2007-2014. Key trims include SLE, SLT, and Denali. Its popularity stems from its truck-based design, offering robust towing capacity and ample passenger/cargo space. The original MSRP ranged from roughly $43,000 to $60,000, depending on trim and options. The Denali trim stands out with its luxury appointments and powerful engine.
The Good

The 2014 GMC Yukon offers a blend of practical and emotional appeal. Its strong V8 engines deliver confident performance and towing capacity (practical). The spacious interior and comfortable ride cater to families (emotional). While not the most fuel-efficient, its reliability record (depending on maintenance) and overall value proposition make it a compelling choice. The commanding design also offers drivers a sense of status.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2014 GMC Yukon include fuel economy, which is typical for a large SUV but still a concern. Some owners have reported issues with the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system. The third-row seating is not as spacious as some competitors. Suspension components and transmission reliability should be inspected carefully before purchase.

What Problems Does the 2014 GMC Yukon Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 GMC Yukon, and similar years, often revolve around the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system. This system, designed to improve fuel economy, can sometimes lead to excessive oil consumption and potential engine damage. Some owners have reported issues with the transmission, including rough shifting or complete failure, although this is not as widespread as the AFM concerns.
Recalls for the 2014 Yukon are not extensive, but it's essential to check the NHTSA website for any open recalls related to specific VINs. Common areas to inspect include the electrical system, specifically the power windows and door locks, which have been known to malfunction. Long-term reliability concerns often involve suspension components, which may require replacement due to wear and tear, especially in areas with poor road conditions. Also, carefully examine the condition of the leather upholstery, as it can show wear, particularly in high-use areas. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters, so inspecting the undercarriage is crucial. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and transmission fluid flushes, is key to mitigating these potential issues and extending the lifespan of the vehicle.

How long will the 2014 GMC Yukon last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 GMC Yukon can realistically reach 200,000 miles or more. Years of service often extend beyond 10 years with consistent care. Long-term durability hinges on addressing potential weaknesses, such as the AFM system. Owners who proactively disable AFM or diligently maintain the engine experience fewer issues. Regular servicing of the transmission and cooling system is also critical. Rust prevention is vital in colder climates. Neglecting maintenance significantly shortens the lifespan and increases the risk of major repairs. Suspension components are wear items requiring periodic replacement.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 GMC Yukon features a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard features include a rearview camera, which aids in parking and maneuvering. The SLE trim has a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. Moving up to the SLT trim adds a Bose premium audio system. The Denali includes a navigation system and blind-spot monitoring.
Entertainment options consist of a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, available on higher trims. Driver-assistance features, beyond the rearview camera, include rear parking sensors. Safety features comprise standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control. Optional features include lane departure warning.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA are generally good, with four or five-star ratings in most categories. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings should be checked specifically, but generally, the Yukon performed well in moderate overlap front tests. The availability of OnStar provides automatic crash response and emergency services, adding an extra layer of security. While not cutting-edge by today's standards, the 2014 Yukon offers a solid foundation of safety and convenience features for its era.

2014 GMC Yukon Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 GMC Yukon ranged from approximately $43,000 for the base SLE trim to around $60,000 for the Denali. As of today, used market prices vary greatly depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. Expect to find them ranging from $15,000 to $30,000. Depreciation is significant, but less so than some luxury SUVs. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, mileage, and geographical location (SUVs tend to hold value better in areas with harsher climates or a greater need for towing capacity). Models with lower mileage and a clean title command higher prices.

2014 GMC Yukon Cost of Ownership

The 2014 GMC Yukon is not the most economical vehicle to own. Insurance costs are moderate to high, reflecting its size and value. Fuel costs are significant due to its large engine and relatively poor fuel economy. Maintenance can be moderate if regular servicing is followed, but repairs can be costly, especially related to the AFM system or transmission. Long-term ownership costs are higher than smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. Budgeting for potential repairs is crucial for managing ownership expenses.

2014 GMC Yukon Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 GMC Yukon is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 GMC Yukon Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2014 GMC Yukon competes with the Chevrolet Tahoe (its corporate sibling), Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia. In terms of performance, the Yukon's V8 engines are comparable, though the Sequoia may offer slightly better reliability. Feature-wise, the Yukon holds its own, especially the Denali trim, against similarly equipped rivals. However, the Ford Expedition boasts a more spacious third row.
Reliability is a mixed bag; the Sequoia generally has a stronger reputation, while the Yukon's reliability can depend on maintenance. Price-wise, the Tahoe is often a more affordable alternative, offering similar capabilities. The Expedition may present better value in terms of third-row space and overall practicality. A similar alternative is the Chevrolet Suburban, which offers even more cargo space. If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Sequoia is a stronger contender. The Ford Expedition is worth considering if third-row space is crucial. For a budget-conscious buyer, the Chevrolet Tahoe offers a similar experience at a potentially lower price point.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 GMC Yukon a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2014 GMC Yukon is ideal for families needing a large, capable SUV with strong towing capacity. It's worth buying used if you're aware of potential issues like AFM and transmission concerns and have it thoroughly inspected before purchase. The SLT trim offers a good balance of features and price. The Denali is appealing for luxury, but consider the increased maintenance costs. Avoid models with a questionable maintenance history. If you prioritize reliability above all else, consider alternatives like the Toyota Sequoia. But if you need truck-like capabilities and comfortable seating for many, the Yukon remains a viable option, especially when purchased at a fair price after a professional inspection.

The gmc Yukon from 2014 is very good it’s good for snow

The gmc Yukon from 2014 is very good it’s good for snow hauling trailers and children. What I love is the cozy luxury interior with the leather seats. It is very reliable the biggest problem we had was the cooling system failing but the repair cost was only $200. I kept everything on it stock. The sound system speakers are crazy good the base is 200% good I just love everything about it!

Love this SUV!

I just bought this SUV and am very happy. I tried to like some more affordable large SUVs and just couldn't. I was worried the car wouldn't be worth the money, but it is in every way!
