What Problems Does the 2019 Volvo XC60 Have?

The 2019 Volvo XC60, while generally reliable, has faced some reported issues. Infotainment system glitches, including slow response times, freezing, and connectivity problems, are among the most common complaints. Some owners have also reported issues with the electronic parking brake.
Recalls for the 2019 model year have included concerns related to the automatic emergency braking system and potential fuel leaks. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability concerns can revolve around the complexity of the electronic systems, which could lead to higher repair costs over time. The T8 plug-in hybrid model, in particular, may have more intricate and potentially expensive repairs related to the hybrid system's components.
Regular maintenance and addressing any warning lights promptly are essential to mitigate potential long-term issues. Prospective buyers should consider obtaining a pre-purchase inspection from a qualified mechanic experienced with Volvo vehicles.

How long will the 2019 Volvo XC60 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2019 Volvo XC60 can easily reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report reliable service for 10-15 years with diligent maintenance. However, long-term durability hinges on consistent upkeep. Weaknesses may emerge in the infotainment system and electronic components over time. Suspension components and the turbocharger (on T5 and T6 models) might require attention as the vehicle ages. Regular fluid changes, timely brake replacements, and addressing any unusual noises or vibrations promptly are crucial for maximizing lifespan. Rust can also be a concern in regions with harsh winters.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Volvo XC60 boasts a wealth of technology. Standard features include a 9-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and a rearview camera. Driver-assistance features include lane keeping assist, collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking, and driver alert control.
Optional features include a premium Harman Kardon or Bowers & Wilkins sound system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist (semi-autonomous driving), and a 360-degree surround-view camera. The Pilot Assist system provides steering assistance, acceleration, and braking support on well-marked roads at speeds up to 80 mph.
Safety is a Volvo hallmark. The 2019 XC60 received top marks from both the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). The IIHS awarded it a "Top Safety Pick+" rating, the highest designation, after acing all crash tests and earning superior ratings for its front crash prevention system. Standard safety features also include multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control.

2019 Volvo XC60 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Volvo XC60 ranged from approximately $40,000 for the base Momentum trim to around $56,000 for the fully-loaded Inscription or Polestar Engineered models. Current used market prices generally range from $25,000 to $38,000, depending on the trim, mileage, condition, and location. Depreciation is moderate compared to some luxury SUVs. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, service history, and whether it has any desirable options like the premium sound system or advanced driver-assistance features. Models with the T6 or T8 engine tend to hold their value slightly better than the base T5.

2019 Volvo XC60 Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Volvo XC60's ownership costs are generally average for its class. Insurance premiums are comparable to other luxury SUVs. Fuel costs depend on the engine choice; the T5 is more economical than the T6 or T8. Maintenance can be moderately expensive, especially at Volvo dealerships. Repairs can also be pricier than average due to the vehicle's complexity and the cost of parts. Overall, the XC60 is not the most economical choice, but reasonable if properly maintained.

Buy some other car

After 50 months and 41,000 miles the car's dash lit up like a Christmas tree due to a clogged sunroof drain that shorted a control panel. $4,000 in repair costs. Poor design at fault.

Disappointed on March 21, 2021

Defective electronics, dashboard rattles

The car is comfortable, and reasonably luxurious; but the annoying defects that have plagued it from the start, and the poor service department at Ourisman, have made the ownership experience quite unsatisfactory.

I love it.

Mine is an XC60 T6 Inscription. It could basically drive itself. As I mature with age I wanted something with every safety feature available. The only thing missing is a heated steering wheel but it does have massaging seats. This is my first Volvo and won’t be my last.

The XC60 meets all of our auto needs.

The XC60 is a very comfortable auto. It is a luxurious car and has all the features we desire. The overall performance is very satisfying and little extra features, such as power seat massage, are frosting on the cake.

Good overall, A/C needs work

I've had the car for 11 months and went from a Mercedes GLC300. I wanted to lower my monthly payment but not skimp on design or options. My car is the Inscription model. I think the styling is top notch. When I purchased I went to several dealers - Mercedes, Range Rover, Audi and BMW. Volvo's interior styling was light years ahead of the others. The car has had no problems so far. I will say I think my Mercedes had a little bit more get up and go. The one thing I think the Volvo needs to work on is the A/C. First. I think it should not be on the touch screen - it's just too much to do when driving and need to turn it up or down. If it were me I'd put the A/C controls where the stereo controls are under the screen. The other thing is, because of the way the A/C works, it's either too cool or too hot - they need to have either a dial to work with or re-think the steps between the levels of air. It just doesn't work super well. Living in California, that's enough for me to re-think my next purchase. I like the car, it's nice and the payment is great.
