The 2015 GMC Savana is a full-size van, part of a lineage tracing back to the Chevrolet Van/GMC Vandura of the 1960s. Available in passenger and cargo configurations, its robust body-on-frame construction emphasizes utility. Key trims include the 1500, 2500, and 3500, denoting payload capacity. Pricing ranged from approximately $30,000 to $40,000 new. The Savana's popularity stems from its dependability and customization options for commercial and personal use, particularly for tradespeople and large families.
The Good
The 2015 GMC Savana offers robust performance with its range of engine options, providing ample power for hauling and towing. Its proven reliability appeals to practical buyers, while its spacious interior and available comfort features cater to those seeking a comfortable ride. It represents good value due to its durability and versatility.
The Bad
The 2015 GMC Savana's weaknesses include its outdated design and relatively poor fuel economy compared to newer vans. The interior, while functional, lacks modern amenities and refinement. Watch out for potential rust issues, particularly in areas with road salt. The handling can feel cumbersome, especially when unladen.

What Problems Does the 2015 GMC Savana Have?
Frequently reported problems for the 2015 GMC Savana often revolve around its aging design and the wear and tear associated with work vehicles. Issues such as transmission problems (slipping or rough shifting), particularly in higher-mileage examples, have been reported. Rust is a significant concern, especially in regions where road salt is used; check underbody components, door panels, and wheel wells. Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning system, including compressor failures and refrigerant leaks. Electrical problems, such as faulty sensors and wiring issues, can also occur.
While specific recalls for the 2015 model year should be checked with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) database, common recalls across the Savana/Express platform often relate to safety concerns like airbag deployment or brake system issues.
Long-term reliability is generally good, provided regular maintenance is performed. However, the Savana is a work vehicle and can be subjected to hard use, which can accelerate wear and tear. Addressing rust proactively and keeping up with fluid changes are crucial for long-term reliability. Earlier model years within this generation (2003-2014) share many of the same potential issues, so researching problems across the entire generation can be beneficial.

How long will the 2015 GMC Savana last?
Given diligent maintenance, a 2015 GMC Savana can easily exceed 200,000 miles or provide over 10 years of service. Many commercial users prioritize preventative maintenance to minimize downtime. Long-term durability is a strong point, but weaknesses include rust susceptibility, particularly in colder climates, and potential wear on suspension components and the transmission due to heavy use. Regular fluid changes and addressing rust spots early are vital for longevity.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
The 2015 GMC Savana prioritizes functionality over cutting-edge technology. Standard tech features are basic, typically including an AM/FM radio and a basic trip computer. Optional features might include a CD player, Bluetooth connectivity (on some trims), and a rearview camera.
Entertainment options are limited compared to modern vehicles. Higher trims might offer upgraded audio systems, but overall, the focus is on practicality.
Driver-assistance features are minimal. Basic safety equipment includes antilock brakes and stability control. More advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring are not available.
Safety features include standard front airbags and side-curtain airbags (on passenger models). The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) crash test ratings for the 2015 GMC Savana may vary, and some tests may not have been performed. It's advisable to consult their official websites for specific ratings. Generally, large vans like the Savana don't always perform as well in crash tests as smaller passenger vehicles due to their size and construction.

2015 GMC Savana Prices and Market Value
When new, the 2015 GMC Savana had a starting price in the low $30,000s, ranging up to around $40,000+ for fully equipped passenger models. Current used market prices vary widely depending on condition, mileage, and configuration, typically ranging from $15,000 to $25,000.
The Savana depreciates steadily, but holds its value relatively well compared to some passenger vehicles, especially cargo versions used for commercial purposes. Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, mileage, maintenance records, and whether it's a cargo or passenger configuration. A well-maintained, lower-mileage example will command a higher price.

2015 GMC Savana Cost of Ownership
The 2015 GMC Savana can be moderately costly to own. Insurance costs are generally average for a commercial vehicle. Fuel economy is poor, especially with the V8 engines. Maintenance costs are reasonable, with readily available parts. However, repairs can be more expensive due to the van's size and complexity. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on maintenance habits; neglecting repairs can lead to significantly higher expenses.

reasonable repair costs.
How Does the 2015 GMC Savana Compare to Other Truck?
The 2015 GMC Savana competes with the Ford E-Series (Econoline/Club Wagon), which was in its final year of production, and the Nissan NV. Compared to the E-Series, the Savana offers similar performance and reliability, but its interior is arguably less dated. The Nissan NV provides a more modern design and often better standard features, but may not match the Savana's towing capacity in some configurations.
In terms of price, the Savana is generally competitive. However, for buyers prioritizing modern features and better fuel economy, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or Ford Transit (newer models) are superior alternatives, though they come at a higher price point. The Ram ProMaster offers a different take on the full-size van with its front-wheel-drive configuration, which can improve traction in some conditions, but its reliability record is less established than the Savana. If basic, reliable transportation is the primary need, the Savana remains a solid choice, especially if budget is a major concern. A used Nissan NV might offer a slightly better balance of features and price, but its long-term reliability should be carefully researched.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 GMC Savana a Good Truck?
The 2015 GMC Savana is ideal for businesses or individuals needing a reliable and capable work van without the need for the latest technology or luxury features. It's a worthwhile purchase *used*, particularly for those prioritizing functionality and affordability. Cargo trims are best for commercial applications, while passenger trims suit larger families or shuttle services. Look for well-maintained examples with comprehensive service records and minimal rust. Consider a newer van like the Ford Transit or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter if a modern interior and better fuel economy are priorities, but be prepared to pay a premium.
