Miserable money pit

Nightmare of a vehicle. Do not walk away from an opportunity to buy; run! My family purchased a "CPO" 2013 BMW X1 sDrive from a BMW dealership. I purchased it from my father in December of 2022. During mine and my father's ownership the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, oil housing filter gasket, thermostat, and wheel bearings all had to be replaced before it even hit 50,000. When I went to have it inspected by an independent mechanic; it turned out all 4 bump stops had rotted out entirely, which was estimated at a $3000+ repair, simply because the entire strut assembly had to come off of the vehicle. This car was driven very carefully and never abused, yet it required $10,000+ in unexpected maintenance repairs before hitting 50,000 miles. I genuinely do not recommend anyone purchase this vehicle, as there are many more reliable and trust-worthy car brands offering cars that are actually worth investing your money into. Sold the money pit and it was the best decision I ever made. Buyers be warned.

Absolutely love my BMW X 1

I’ve had this car for seven years. I’ve had to change the water pump once two years ago and just recently the valve gasket. apart from that over the last seven years nothing else needed to be fixed or replaced. Currently has just over 150,000 km. I absolutely love this car drives super well. It’s not a lemon doesn’t give me any headache, I live in Canada in the winter it is very icy lots of snow and I just have no issue whatsoever with his vehicle. Car is paid off still looks brand new no rust scratches just as white as the day I purchased it. I cannot recommend this car enough. I absolutely love it. Also, the service of BMW when it was guaranteed, was beyond excellent , if I had to buy another car, I would most probably buy another BMW. I’m gonna use this car until it completely gives out. I can’t imagine that happening anytime soon as it is still in mint condition in my opinion.

Please don’t buy it if you need car for driving,,

So far replaced 4 times water pump,, Once termormostat housing,, 2 times overflow tank Almost all gaskets Just headaches Hardly ever drive right ,, More time in service than on the road

Well-balanced combination of performance & comfort

It's fun to drive this car. While it's an SUV, it drives like a crossover sports activity vehicle. Great handling, stability and control. Can accelerate as well as drive in comfort with family.

Madelyn's BMW X1

Previous car was a BMW M3 and it was a terrific car before the security system went out after the warranty expired. My wife loves the X1 because it drives like a car and has good storage. No issues except needed new tires and the sunroof headliner needs to be replaced at my expense even though I purchased the extended warranty. Car is parked in a garage at night and during working hours.

Not a Head Turner, but Fast in a Straight Line

The exterior design of the car is very plain and average. The acceleration is brisk, but the handling is not up to the task of the performance. It has been reliable, but the brakes are an issue. New rotors, pads and sensors after 40,000 miles is terrible, especially for a boulevard cruiser. This is not a track car or a skid pad demon, it is a family station wagon disguised as an SAV. The depreciation is steep as well, as it has lost more than 50% of its value in six years. The 8 speed transmission is a bit much as it is constantly upshifting and ends up in 8th gear at 50 mph. The fuel economy is worse than stated, which seems par for the course with every vehicle. The EPA needs to change the test to real world conditions and give us accurate ratings. With all of this said it is a decent vehicle. Just be aware that once the warranty period is over the maintenance costs can be very steep, $200 oil changes anyone? How about $400 for four spark plugs, or $200 for a cabin filter!
