What Problems Does the 2010 Volvo XC60 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2010 Volvo XC60 can include issues with the electronic systems, such as the infotainment system freezing or malfunctioning. Some owners have reported problems with the power steering system, including loss of power assist. Oil leaks, particularly around the engine seals, have also been noted. Suspension components, like bushings and struts, may wear out prematurely, requiring replacement. There have been some recalls related to fuel pump relays and potential issues with the braking system. Checking the vehicle history for completed recall repairs is crucial. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of the electronic systems, which can become more prone to failure as the vehicle ages. Maintenance costs can be higher compared to some competitors, as Volvo parts and service tend to be more expensive. Pre-purchase inspections by a qualified mechanic are highly recommended to identify any potential problems before buying a used 2010 XC60. Specifically, pay attention to the condition of the transmission, as some owners have reported issues with shifting. Regular maintenance and addressing problems promptly can help mitigate some of these long-term reliability concerns.

How long will the 2010 Volvo XC60 last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2010 Volvo XC60 can realistically achieve 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report over 15 years of service with proper care. However, long-term durability depends heavily on consistent maintenance, including timely oil changes, fluid replacements, and addressing any mechanical issues promptly. Weaknesses over time often involve the electronic systems, such as the infotainment system and various sensors. Suspension components and rubber seals are also prone to wear and tear with age. Preventative maintenance is key to maximizing the lifespan of this vehicle. Neglecting maintenance can lead to costly repairs down the road.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2010 Volvo XC60 came standard with features like dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker audio system with CD player and auxiliary input, and Volvo's City Safety system, which automatically applies the brakes at low speeds to prevent or mitigate collisions. Optional features included a premium sound system, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, and leather upholstery.

Driver-assistance features, depending on the trim and options package, could include blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors. The XC60's standout safety feature was City Safety, which was innovative for its time. It uses a laser sensor to detect vehicles in front and automatically applies the brakes if the driver doesn't react in time.

In terms of safety ratings, the 2010 Volvo XC60 generally performed well in crash tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave it a "Good" rating in most crash tests, and it was named a Top Safety Pick. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also awarded it high ratings for its overall safety performance. These ratings reflect Volvo's long-standing commitment to safety and helped make the XC60 a popular choice for families.

2010 Volvo XC60 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2010 Volvo XC60 ranged from approximately $33,000 to $40,000, depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices typically range from $6,000 to $12,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The XC60 has depreciated significantly over time, which is typical for luxury vehicles. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, mileage, and location. Models with the T6 engine and desirable options like leather upholstery and navigation tend to hold their value slightly better. Clean Carfax reports and documented service records are essential for maximizing resale value.

2010 Volvo XC60 Cost of Ownership

Long-term ownership of a 2010 Volvo XC60 can be moderately costly. Insurance premiums are typically higher than non-luxury vehicles. Fuel economy is average for its class. Maintenance and repair costs can be significant, as Volvo parts and labor tend to be more expensive. Regular maintenance is crucial to prevent costly repairs. While not the most economical choice, the XC60 offers a balance of luxury, safety, and performance that may justify the higher ownership costs for some buyers.

2010 Volvo XC60 Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Volvo XC60 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Volvo XC60 Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2010 Volvo XC60 competed with vehicles like the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLK. In terms of safety, the XC60 was a leader, often surpassing rivals with its City Safety system. Performance-wise, the T6 engine offered competitive power, but the base 3.2L engine was less exciting than some competitors' offerings. The BMW X3 offered a more sporty driving experience, while the Audi Q5 boasted a more refined interior. Reliability is comparable, although some German competitors may have a slight edge.

The Acura RDX provided a strong value proposition with a lower price point and good reliability. In terms of features, the XC60 was competitive, though its infotainment system wasn't as advanced as some rivals. Alternatives to the 2010 XC60 include the Acura RDX for value and reliability, the BMW X3 for driving dynamics, and the Audi Q5 for a more luxurious interior. Consider the Lexus RX for superior reliability and comfort, though it is slightly larger. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities, with the XC60 excelling in safety and Scandinavian design.

The 2010 Volvo XC60 is ideal for individuals or small families who prioritize safety, Scandinavian design, and a comfortable ride. It's worth buying used if you find a well-maintained example with a comprehensive service history and a clean Carfax report. The T6 model offers a more engaging driving experience. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended to assess potential issues. Be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs. If safety is paramount and you appreciate Volvo's design ethos, the 2010 XC60 can be a worthwhile purchase. Consider models with lower mileage and those sold by reputable sellers.

Best car ever

We bought our XC-60 new and it has been the best car I’ve ever had. It’s a sturdy vehicle with a nice stable ride. We have had no significant mechanical issues. It can haul quite a bit of stuff with the seats down. The height and weight of the car are perfect and create a great blend of performance and safety. Still feels the same as when new, which is amazing.

Love my XC60

This is my 2nd Volvo..prior to this I owned a XC90 which I pass down to my daughter and then to my brother who currently drives it still (2005). Love my 2010 XC60 it has been a great car and still run and looks great 130,000 later. I'm diligent in doing the preventative maintenance and I have never had a problem with my car in all my years of owning it. When the time comes to retire this XC60...I'll definitely replace with another Volvo. Best cars ever!

Excellent handling and reliability

Have owned one for 7 years and put over 150,000 miles on it. No issues, has been more reliable than a Toyota and still handles fantastic. Interior has held up extremely well. Such a well made car, I hope the next generation lives up to this car.

Great Touring Vehicle

It’s not every day that you realize you have driven one of the best cars on the road. The 2010 Volvo XC60 has that extra “something” that sets it apart. This version that has a 300-hp engine Turbo 6 cylinder AWD, and Scandinavian luxury. When Volvo designed this SUV they were going for a distinctive look. The front profile has that muscular Volvo look, but the side profile is sporty and angular. It’s really one of the most striking vehicles on the road. The AWD feature makes the XC60 more like a crossover than a traditional off-roader, and, the XC60 T6 drives nothing like a crossover. It drives more like a “cross” between a rugged SUV and a sports car with engine torque to get you where you need to go. What’s rather amazing about the Geartronic transmission is that it is so butter-smooth. From a standing position accelerating up to 60mph, the XC60 just doesn’t seem to shift at all. You can use the manual shifter to downshift and the XC60 barely notices that either. This is one of the few vehicles we’d drive with the manual shifter for sheer enjoyment.

Great Car for my Daughter

We wanted to make sure our daughter’s first car was dependable and reliable. The Volvo met all our requirements for our 17- old who does quite a bit of highway driving by herself. We’ve not been disappointed in the Volvo. We purchased from Maximum Auto in Manassas, Va and that experience I wish never to live again.

Forever volv

My first vehicle was a v70 and I adored that thing. The comfort, reliability and performance exceeded my expectations. After that I drive an s60 which was just as great except more compact. I then upgraded to the xc60, which by far is my favorite of the Volvo family. These cars hug the road, turning radius is phenomenal, not to mention the sleek design and high comfort levels. I feel I?m driving a cloud! I was going to choose the xc90 but I definitely do not regret going with the xc60. Safest cars around. Will never drive anything else.

Zero Mile to Over 100,000 and still going

This car was a great purchase. My wife wanted a lengthy SUV to put her bike inside. First five years was maintenance free. It is still functioning at a high level. Even though it is the third car in a person family, it is the most dependable vehicle of the three! Love the new improvements in the same model as it evolves to sporty SUV!
