The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander is a compact crossover SUV known for its available third-row seating, a relative rarity in its class. Part of the second generation (2007-2013), it offered a blend of practicality and sporty styling. Key trims included the ES, SE, and XLS. Pricing ranged from approximately $21,000 to $27,000 when new. Its affordable price point and the option for seven-passenger seating made it popular with budget-conscious families.
The Good

The 2010 Outlander offered reasonable performance with its V6 engine, providing adequate power for most drivers. It boasts a distinctive design and available third-row seating, appealing to those seeking practicality. Its competitive pricing and decent fuel economy also attract value-conscious buyers. The Outlander provides a comfortable ride and decent handling, enhancing the overall driving experience.

The Bad

The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander has some weaknesses. Watch out for potential issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) in some models. The interior materials can feel somewhat cheap. The third-row seating is cramped and best suited for children. Also, check for rust, particularly in areas with harsh winters.

What Problems Does the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander often revolve around transmission issues, particularly with the CVT. Some owners have reported slipping or jerking, requiring costly repairs or replacement. Other common issues include premature brake wear and electrical problems, such as malfunctioning sensors or issues with the power windows and locks.

Several recalls may have affected the 2010 Outlander. These may include issues related to the fuel pump relay and brake light switch. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN against the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) database to verify if all applicable recalls have been addressed.

Long-term reliability can be a concern. The CVT is a known weak point, and its longevity can be affected by driving habits and maintenance. Rust can also be a problem, especially in colder climates where salt is used on the roads. Regular maintenance, including timely fluid changes and inspections, is crucial to mitigating these risks. Overall, while the Outlander can be a reliable vehicle if properly maintained, potential buyers should be aware of these common issues and conduct a thorough inspection before purchasing a used model.

How long will the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander last?

A 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander, with proper maintenance, can realistically reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Years of service often depend on usage, but 10-15 years is achievable. Long-term durability hinges on regular maintenance, especially transmission fluid changes for CVT models. Weaknesses include potential CVT failure, rust in regions with road salt, and wear on suspension components. Keeping up with recommended service intervals is crucial for maximizing longevity. Neglecting maintenance can significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan.

This car got me places. Very comfortable cabin with leather seats. The cargo area was really big and the seats folded down. Was involved directly in a rollover and came out unscathed.

It is not too high and not too low. The perfect height! It has a big cargo area. And it is very good for traveling! 🙂

This car is good if you use it in the highways and for travel. but you would have issues in the town because it recquire the premium gaz who is more expensive than regular.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander came with a reasonable array of built-in tech and safety features for its time. Standard entertainment features included a CD player and an auxiliary audio input jack. Higher trims offered an upgraded Rockford Fosgate audio system with more speakers and a subwoofer.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. ABS and stability control were standard. Some trims offered features such as automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers.

Safety features included front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags for all three rows. Crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) should be consulted for specific scores. Generally, the Outlander performed reasonably well in crash tests for its class.

Optional features varied by trim but could include a sunroof, leather upholstery, a navigation system (which was fairly basic by today's standards), and Bluetooth connectivity. The Outlander lacked advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) common in newer cars, such as lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking. Overall, the tech and safety features were adequate for the time, but significantly less advanced than contemporary offerings.

2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Prices and Market Value

The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander had a starting price of around $21,000 when new, with higher trims reaching up to $27,000. Current used market prices range from approximately $4,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. Depreciation has been significant, as expected for a vehicle of this age. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (rust is a major concern), maintenance history, and trim level. V6 models generally hold slightly more value than the four-cylinder variants. Low mileage and a well-documented service record will command the highest prices.

2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander are generally moderate. Fuel costs depend on the engine choice and driving habits, but are reasonable for its class. Maintenance can be relatively affordable, but potential CVT repairs can be expensive. Overall, the Outlander is moderately economical to own, but potential repair costs, especially related to the CVT, should be considered. Rust prevention is essential to avoid costly bodywork repairs down the line.

2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander competes with vehicles like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Nissan Rogue. In terms of performance, the Outlander's V6 option gives it an edge over some competitors' base engines. Feature-wise, it offered available third-row seating, a unique selling point. However, reliability is a concern compared to the CR-V and RAV4, which have consistently better track records. The Rogue offers a similar driving experience and is sometimes more affordable on the used market.

Price-wise, the Outlander was often more affordable than the CR-V and RAV4 when new, and this continues to be true in the used market. However, the lower price comes with potential trade-offs in reliability and resale value. If reliability is a top priority, the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 are better alternatives, albeit potentially more expensive. If budget is the primary concern and third-row seating isn't essential, the Nissan Rogue or even a Mazda CX-7 could be considered. The Outlander occupies a middle ground, offering a mix of features and affordability, but requires careful inspection and maintenance to avoid potential issues.

Ranks #1600 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander is ideal for budget-conscious buyers needing occasional third-row seating. It's worth considering *used*, but only after a thorough inspection, especially of the transmission. Look for well-maintained models with documented service history. The V6 engine offers better performance, but increases fuel consumption. Avoid models with excessive rust. If reliability is paramount, consider alternatives. If you're aware of the potential risks and find a well-cared-for example at a good price, the Outlander can be a practical choice.

Parts are unreasonably expensive

The OEM parts in Canada are ridiculous and there are no after market parts that are compatible...seriously $3000 for a CV axle....$2000 for a headlight assembly......get real.....2010 outlander XLS is what we purchased and I doubt the prices are less on any newer model

Don't underestimate this car!

Bought this car as it was the only one I could afford on the lot. Four years and 100,000 miles later, NEVER any mechanical issues!! Paid it off, passed it to my sister and bought a BRAND NEW 2022 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE CROSSOVER! Love it!! I never knew how affordable and reliable they are. I feel like I'm driving a Nissan, but at less the price. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Reliable family car.

I have bought this car in 2018. I have been driving this car for 4 years. Never had any problems. Went camping with the car, places where I used the all wheel drive. Worked excellent. Enough space. Fuel consumption is a negative for the car. And the 18” tyres. But I am a happy customer.
