The Good
The 2014 Outlander offers a blend of practicality and value. Its fuel efficiency appeals to budget-conscious buyers, while the available third-row seating provides flexibility for families. The overall design is functional and easy to live with. While not a performance leader, it provides adequate power for daily driving, aiming for practicality over excitement.
The Bad
The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander's weaknesses include a less refined interior compared to some rivals, and its base engine can feel underpowered, especially when fully loaded. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) can also be a point of concern for some. Potential buyers should inspect for transmission issues, electrical problems, and rust, particularly in areas with harsh winters.

What Problems Does the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Have?
Another area of concern is the electrical system, particularly issues with the infotainment system, power windows, and door locks. Some owners have reported premature wear of brake components and suspension parts. Rust can be a problem in areas with salted roads during winter, so checking the undercarriage for corrosion is recommended.
While not specific to the 2014 model year alone, Mitsubishi Outlanders in this generation have had recalls related to issues such as potential fuel leakage and problems with the brake booster. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls that need to be addressed.
Long-term reliability can be a concern if maintenance is neglected. Properly maintained, the engine can last a long time, but the CVT and other components require diligent upkeep. Overall, preventative maintenance and addressing issues promptly can improve the Outlander's long-term reliability.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
The GT trim often includes optional features like a navigation system, premium audio system (Rockford Fosgate), power liftgate, and leather upholstery. Driver-assistance features were limited but could include lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control on the GT trim, depending on optional packages.
Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a suite of airbags. The 2014 Outlander received good, but not perfect, crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). It earned a "Top Safety Pick" designation, indicating good performance in most crash tests. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) ratings varied depending on the specific test, generally scoring 4 out of 5 stars overall. It's important to verify the specific safety equipment on a particular vehicle, as availability depended on trim level and optional packages. The lack of standard advanced driver-assistance systems is a noticeable difference compared to modern vehicles.

How Does the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Compare to Other Sedan?
Reliability is where the Outlander falls slightly short compared to the CR-V and RAV4, which are known for their longevity. The Mazda CX-5 offers a more engaging driving experience. The Nissan Rogue provides a more comfortable ride.
The Outlander's main advantage is its price point, often being more affordable than its rivals. However, for buyers prioritizing reliability and long-term value, the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 are better alternatives, despite being more expensive upfront. If driving dynamics are a priority, the Mazda CX-5 is a strong contender. If seeking similar value with potentially better reliability, consider a used Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento from the same model year.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander a Good Sedan?

I've owned many cars and over 7 Mitsubishis,They are someI've owned many cars and over 7 Mitsubishis,They are some of the most dependable and underrated cars and SUVs today. I feel like the so called pro reviews attack the Mitsubishi because of older reliable technology, and not having all the newer technology that's untested or gimmicks that will be obsolete or expensive to fix. The v6 is tried and true dependable responsive as is the transmission. So if you want reliability this is the vehicle, the AWD is second to none . I also own a gsx AWD turbo 1g as I've owned 2g and other examples. I bought with 90k for a steal from a dealer over 3 years ago and haven't had one issue with it ,runs great ,smooth good options but,USB, Sirius,cd player. Sonte ever plan on getting rid of this will maintain and keep Just look at all the issues with newer cars including the Nissan engines in new outlander ,the Mazda turbos etc. give me a old reliable proven platform over some new shiny technology that breaks easily or is issue prone. So I don't take care reviews from the big mags seriously anymore. I do my own research and for me got to have a suv with a v6 and awd as well as economy modes and. Plenty of room

Find the GT V6 with S-WAC version it is a beast. If you paid more for the GT you get the powerful and super reliable 6B31 V6 engine and a 6-spd w/OD Transmission not found on the lower trims. 0-60 speed? 6.7 seconds... compare this 2014 Outlander to a 2023 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport AWD 0-60 mph 7.3. That's just ONE example of many feel free to compare. How bout the S-AWC system? It's among the best in the world even today. It's what they use at the Dakar Rally and the World Rally Championships. I will admit that the other versions of this year Outlander are good but OMG the GT S-AWC version is fantastic!

About the best vehicle we've owned!Owned for 10 years, 92K miles, traded in for 2023. In those 10 years, only battery, tires, wipers, etc. One recall from USG, emergency brake linkage - but we never noticed any difference, dealer repaired, no charge. Other than that, a most enjoyable experience with the SUV. Dealer service/Don Herring, excellent.

This is my second outlanderThis is my second outlander. Very dependable vehicle, the only reason I got rid of the first one was it did not have 4 wheel drive. Bought both of them used, first one had 200,000 miles on it and was 15 years old, never broke down, engine ran smooth. Great vehicle!

Bad experience with this vehicleI purchased this car new in 2014. This car is nothing but a headache. Constant repairs. Leaky head gasket, 3 serpentine belts due to squealing, pulleys, alternator, blown radiator, new exhaust tubing, and a tail light socket. I would never recommend this vehicle to anyone. Better off in a horse and buggy. Car is also underpowered. It's about 25 HP and 25 ft lb torque behind in any other CUV. you can tell too. If you have 3 adults in the car, forget it, grab an oar and start rowing to help it move. Only thing positive that I will say about this car is the Rockford Fosgate stereo system. Another problem too is the amount of Mitsubishi dealerships around. They are not like other Manufactures that have numerous dealerships. So prepare yourself for a long drive to the dealership when you need your car fixed. It will happen.

Best Value 3rd Row on MarketBest underrated Veh out there; Mits fails to advertise there veh; and the value and quality for your money. 3rd Row seating with Leather, Bluetooth, Navigation (not from some app w/in your phone). Bluetooth, etc... Thule Roof racks, with Hitch. All for less than $16K. You can't come even close to that price for the features and price point.

AC quit working10 year 100k warranty doesn’t apply to the cheap compressor. Dealer wants $1000 to fix. I will never buy another Mitsubishi product. Live and learn.
