The Good
The 2013 SL-Class delivers thrilling performance, especially in AMG variants, and boasts a luxurious, comfortable ride. Its elegant design provides timeless appeal, while the retractable hardtop offers year-round usability. For practical buyers, it represents a prestigious grand tourer, while emotionally, it provides open-air exhilaration and status.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses include the high cost of maintenance and repairs, especially for the AMG models. The complex electronics can be prone to issues. Some owners have reported problems with the hydraulic system for the retractable hardtop. Fuel economy, especially in the AMG variants, is not a strong point, and depreciation can be significant.

What Problems Does the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Have?
Recalls for the 2013 SL-Class, while not extensive, should be checked via the NHTSA website using the VIN. Common areas for recalls often involve safety systems.
Long-term reliability concerns center on the potential for high maintenance costs. The twin-turbo engines, especially in the AMG variants, require meticulous care. The complex electronics and hydraulics can become problematic as the car ages. Ensuring regular servicing and addressing issues promptly are crucial for mitigating long-term reliability risks. Specific model years prior to 2013 may have exhibited similar issues related to the hardtop and ABC suspension, so reviewing owner forums and repair histories can be helpful. Pre-purchase inspections by a qualified Mercedes-Benz technician are highly recommended.
How long will the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Optional features included Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and Parktronic with parking assist. The Airscarf system, which blows warm air onto the neck, is a popular comfort feature. The Magic Vision Control wiper system, which integrates washer nozzles into the wiper blades, is another notable technology.
Safety features include multiple airbags, ABS, and stability control. While the 2013 SL-Class wasn't specifically crash-tested by the NHTSA or IIHS, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are generally known for their robust safety engineering. The Pre-Safe system enhances safety by tightening seatbelts, adjusting seats, and closing windows and the sunroof if a collision is imminent. Overall, the 2013 SL-Class provides a sophisticated and well-equipped environment for both driver and passenger.

How Does the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Compare to Other Sedan?
Feature-wise, the SL-Class is well-equipped, but rivals offer comparable technology. Reliability is a potential concern for the SL-Class, as mentioned earlier, while Porsche generally enjoys a stronger reliability reputation. Price-wise, the SL-Class was positioned similarly to its rivals when new, but used market prices can fluctuate.
Alternatives to the SL-Class include the Porsche 911 Cabriolet for a sportier driving experience and potentially better reliability. The BMW 6 Series Convertible offers a similar blend of luxury and performance. The Jaguar F-Type provides a more visceral and engaging driving experience. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and preferences, with the SL-Class excelling in blending luxury, performance, and the convenience of a retractable hardtop.

Final Verdict: Is the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class a Good Sedan?

Good luck with this car!Good luck with this car! While this is ABSOLUTELY one of the most gorgeous cars on the road, you will without a doubt have problems with this car! This is my second of this generation and they ALL have minor issues that will drive you NUTS and cost you $$$$$$$$$!!!!! Sometimes is little things (side panels on the seats won't work or the lumbar, or the windscreen), but sometimes its major things (like $8,000 for the ride leveling that "maybe" will fix the problem {exact quote from the dealer}). But the car is a stunner. I couldn't tell you how many times people have either stopped me an told me how gorgeous the car is or even yelled is I have been driving down the street. Is it worth it? Good question. I love the car, but man, the little bugs just drive me nuts!!!

The best two door convertible in the world. My 2014 SL550 has been absolutely trouble free. It's actually one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. I live in Denver and frequently travel to Winter Park which involves a twisty mountain pass that crosses the Continental Divide. During summer months, I'll drive this car and the handling capabilities of the car allow it to shine. It's extremely agile and corners like a 911, with similar power (insane power to weight ratio from the twin-turbo V8, with all aluminum frame and body construction). Let's just say I like to drive in a spirited manner, and demand a lot from a car's power and handling. This car's capabilities are vastly unknown by the general public. To put it in perspective, no stock Mustang, Camaro, Charger, or Tesla has ever beaten me off the light in this car, and they sure try. I'm convinced every Tesla owner seems to just think their car is faster than ANY other car out there, and it's most definitely not. I frequently have Tesla drivers want to race me from a light in this car. The juvenile in me comes out and smokes them every time. The styling of this car might be controversial to some, but wherever you go or park, I've never had a car where so many people get giddy with excitement over how great they think it looks. Be ready for that...lol

I have found my 4th SLI've enjoyed all 3 of the SL's I've had over the last 22 years starting with the 97 SL 500 and now it's time to upgrade my 2011 to the new blunt front end that came out in 2012; I did not like the look, however it grows on you. I'm retired now so no more new SL's, but a low mileage 2014 or 2015 will do nicely as I don't like the 2016 front end, yet. The reason for the blunt front end is the European Union Pedestrian Impact Regulations that were announced back in 2005; it's to protect pedestrians from up to 25 MPH hits, so no more pointy front ends.

Supercar unforgettable sound/powerOnce in a lifetime opportunity to drive, worth the money used, to experience the torque and low end/ high end horsepower and speed.

I would never own another Mercedez-BenzFor the money I spent on this car I had too many problems. The ride was comfortable, the accessories were all there but it did not stand up for the amount I paid. There were times even the service department couldn't find out what the problem was. Driving thru a puddle after a storm the Hondas, Chevys and other cheaper cars made it thru but not my car. It was totaled.

Fun car to driveLove the performance. Info system taking some time to get used to. The pick up is great. I can have my golf clubs in the trunk with the top down. The hard top makes it really quiet!

it could be betteryou better have warranty or the maintenance would cost a lot, there are little things that will go wrong and will cost a lot to fix.
