The Good
The 2022 Nissan Altima offers a comfortable ride and stylish design, appealing to emotional buyers. Practical buyers will appreciate its fuel efficiency and available all-wheel drive for enhanced safety. The VC-Turbo engine provides engaging performance, while Nissan's reputation for reliability offers peace of mind. It's a well-rounded value proposition.
The Bad
Some critics note the Altima's CVT transmission can feel sluggish at times. The base engine's performance is adequate, but not particularly exciting. Interior materials, while decent, aren't as premium as some rivals. Watch out for potential CVT issues and ensure regular maintenance is performed. Road noise can also be noticeable at higher speeds.

What Problems Does the 2022 Nissan Altima Have?
Recalls for the 2022 model year should be checked with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) database to ensure any safety-related issues have been addressed. Long-term reliability concerns often focus on the CVT's longevity, especially under demanding driving conditions. Some owners have also reported minor electrical glitches and issues with the infotainment system.
Prior model years (2019-2021) have also seen complaints related to the CVT, so it's wise to thoroughly inspect the transmission's condition before purchasing a used 2022 Altima. Regular maintenance and careful driving habits are essential for maximizing the vehicle's lifespan and minimizing potential problems.
How long will the 2022 Nissan Altima last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are abundant, especially on higher trims. These include standard automatic emergency braking, intelligent forward collision warning, and available adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning. The Platinum trim features Nissan's Intelligent Around View Monitor, providing a 360-degree view.
Safety is a priority, with multiple airbags and stability control systems standard. Optional features like ProPILOT Assist (combining adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist) are available. Crash test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS are generally favorable, although specific ratings should be verified for the 2022 model year. These ratings often contribute to the Altima's appeal as a safe and family-friendly sedan.

How Does the 2022 Nissan Altima Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?
The Mazda 6 offers a more premium feel and engaging handling, but it's been discontinued, making it a used-only option. The Hyundai Sonata boasts a longer warranty and stylish design. If reliability is paramount, the Camry or Accord are generally safer bets. If you prioritize value and tech features, the Sonata is worth considering. If you want a balance of comfort, features, and available all-wheel drive, the Altima remains a solid choice, particularly if you find a well-maintained model.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Nissan Altima a Good Passenger Sedan?

I came from a 2018 Honda Accord EX to a 2022 NissanI came from a 2018 Honda Accord EX to a 2022 Nissan Altima SR VC-Turbo. The reason I switched to Nissan was the high lease price of the Accord in 2022. These cars are very similar in gas mileage, ride quality, trunk space and tech features. The Honda had a slightly smoother ride(but the Nissan does have 19" rims which means you feel the road imperfections more). My only complaint with the Altima is the back up camera. To put it frankly the resolution sucks!! The Accord had a crystal clear back up camera. Finally, my Accord had 190 hp and the Altima has 234 but honestly the acceleration is very similar.

Piece of JunkLeased a brand new 22 Altima and the battery has died multiple times. I have replaced battery now car won’t start after driving short distances. I have to sit there and keep pressing the start button until the car kicks in and starts. Battery and alternator are testing fine. STAY AWAY from Altimas. They are complete junk. My 2nd Altima Iv owned. The first one was a 2011 and complete junk as well…had to trade it in and leased a brand new one thinking it would be reliable. Not at all.

Altima reviewThe car looks good and drives nice. This is my first non American brand and hope I have good luck with it. The options are a little off but I will make do.

Nice but flawedWithin the first two weeks of owning mine I had to take it to the shop 5 times. The interior has less driver foot room than a 2008 Sonata I owned. The accelerator pedal and brake pedal are too close together, every once in a while my foot hits both pedals at the same time, so for those who are use to using both feet, one brake, one gas. My right leg is against the center console constantly, does make for a sore knee/hip/leg/ankle. Wish I had driven the car for a week long test drive so I could have discovered these things. The motor lacks power and the transmission seems to stay in a higher gear when it should be in a lower gear. Also, for a 2022 I am very surprised that there aren't any factory LED lights on the car. The dashlights can go full bright or one notch down to as dim as they go. Also, why have a remote start on the car that doesn't work unless I pay a monthly service fee? Something else I wish I had known about before buying the car. There might be a few other things that bother me about the car but I'll stop here. The cars fuel mileage in & around the city are great, highway miles per gallon is great. The handling is nice. I think the interior is nicely done and the exterior is nice, when I look at it I think of racing.

6th generation altima backup camera is worthless!Everything else, I like about this car. HOWEVER, the backup camera is the worst I've ever seen. I can barely see anything from it to being totally worthless. No, it's not just my car, every Altima (6th generation) has the same problem - I checked out several Altimas on the lot. Prior to this I had a 2015 Altima, it was great, I could see anything regardless of the lighting condition. The new Altima's camera has an adjusting feature and it seems to be stuck on the lowest setting. The techs act stupid and tell me well all the other cars are the same...well duh!
