The 2022 Grand Cherokee offers strong performance with multiple engine options and impressive off-road prowess (emotional). Its comfortable interior and available luxury features provide a refined driving experience (emotional). Practical buyers appreciate its spaciousness, towing capacity, and modern tech, though reliability is mixed. The redesigned exterior is also visually appealing.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses include reported issues with the infotainment system and electronic components. Some owners have experienced build quality concerns. What Problems Does the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Have?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, while a significant redesign, has faced some frequently reported problems. Infotainment system glitches, including freezing, slow response times, and connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, are common complaints. Some owners have reported electrical issues related to sensors and modules. There have been some recalls related to specific components, such as suspension parts and fuel line connections; it's crucial to check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information specific to the vehicle's VIN. Long-term reliability is still being assessed, but initial reports suggest potential concerns with the complexity of the new electronics and powertrain components. The PHEV version (4xe) has its own set of potential issues related to the hybrid system, including battery performance and charging problems. It's important to note that these are frequently reported problems and not necessarily indicative of every vehicle, and the severity can vary widely. Prospective buyers should carefully inspect the vehicle and review its maintenance history.

How long will the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee last?

With proper maintenance, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee can reasonably be expected to reach 150,000-200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Regular oil changes, timely fluid replacements, and addressing minor repairs promptly are crucial. Long-term durability may be affected by the complexity of the electronics and the potential for wear and tear on the air suspension system (if equipped). Keep an eye on potential leaks, especially in the cooling system, and ensure timely transmission servicing. The 4xe model's battery health will also play a significant role in its long-term viability.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee boasts a comprehensive suite of technology features. Standard features include a Uconnect 5 infotainment system with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a digital instrument cluster. Higher trims offer a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen, a premium McIntosh audio system, and a front passenger interactive display. Driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. Optional features include a night vision camera, a surround-view camera system, and hands-free active driving assist. For safety, it has advanced airbag systems. The 2022 Grand Cherokee has earned good crash-test ratings from the IIHS, including a "Top Safety Pick+" award when equipped with specific headlights. These ratings reflect the vehicle's structural integrity and the effectiveness of its safety technologies.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Prices and Market Value

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee had a starting MSRP around $40,000 when new, with higher trims exceeding $70,000. Current used market prices vary widely based on mileage, condition, and trim level, generally ranging from the mid $30,000s to the high $50,000s. Depreciation is typical for the segment. Factors influencing resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, service history, trim level, and geographic location. The 4xe models may hold their value slightly better due to fuel efficiency and tax incentives, while V8 models may depreciate faster.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is moderately costly to own. Insurance premiums are average for its class. Fuel costs can be high, especially with the V8 engine. Maintenance is generally moderate, but repairs, particularly for electronics and the air suspension, can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on reliability and maintenance habits. The 4xe offers lower fuel costs but has the added complexity of hybrid system maintenance. Overall, it is not the most economical SUV, but also not the most expensive.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee competes with the Toyota 4Runner, Ford Explorer, Honda Passport, and Kia Telluride. In terms of performance, the Grand Cherokee offers comparable engine options to the Explorer and 4Runner, with the 4xe providing a unique PHEV option. Features are competitive across the board, with the Grand Cherokee offering a modern and well-equipped interior. Reliability is where the Grand Cherokee falls short compared to the Toyota 4Runner and Honda Passport, which have historically demonstrated superior reliability. The Kia Telluride offers a more spacious third row and often at a better price point. Price-wise, the Grand Cherokee is generally competitive, although higher trims can get expensive. Alternatives include the Kia Telluride for value and space, the Toyota 4Runner for off-road capability and reliability (though dated), and the Honda Passport for a balanced and reliable option. The Ford Explorer provides similar engine choices and interior space, but its reliability is also a concern. Depending on individual needs and priorities, any of these could be a similar or better alternative.

Ranks #1158 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is ideal for buyers seeking a blend of luxury, capability, and modern technology in a mid-size SUV. It's a good choice for those who value off-road performance and a comfortable interior. Whether it's worth buying depends on individual priorities. Used models offer better value, but thorough inspection and maintenance records are crucial. Consider the Limited or Overland trims for a good balance of features and price. If reliability is a major concern, alternatives like the Toyota 4Runner or Honda Passport might be a better fit. The 4xe is worth considering for buyers prioritizing fuel efficiency and qualifying for tax incentives.

My opinion of 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep I have ever owned. I always liked the looks of the Grand Cherokee. I'm happy with the vehicle. No complaints except it does like to drink gasoline. My previous 4 vehicles were all 8 cylinder full size pickup trucks. The Jeep being a 6 cylinder eats more gas. The Other than that, I'm very happy with my purchase of my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Good looks, drives well, comfortable and safe.

2022 Jeep GC Trailhawk

I just replaced my 2018 Jeep GC Trailhawk Eco Diesel for 2022 fully loaded Jeep GC Trailhawk. I do miss the power and mpg of the turbo diesel engine. So far I like the new GC but I wish it had a better more powerful and more fuel efficient engine. My average mpg is only 16.7 mostly city driving. Highway mpg on 700 mile trip was only 18mpg. That's pretty bad. I have about 1600 miles on it and I hope the mpg will improve over time.
