2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Overview, Reviews, Ratings & Specs

Rating: 3.93
Based on 12 Owner Reviews
Jovan | March 31, 2025
The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, an all-electric subcompact SUV, builds upon the success of the Bolt hatchback. It offers more rear legroom and a crossover-like design. Key trims include the LT and Premier, with a starting price around $28,000 before incentives. Its spacious interior, one-pedal driving, and available Super Cruise driver-assistance technology make it a popular choice for those seeking an affordable and practical EV.
The Good

The Bolt EUV blends practicality with fun. Its instant torque delivers peppy acceleration, while its comfortable ride and spacious cabin provide a pleasant experience. The EPA-estimated range of 247 miles addresses range anxiety. For practical buyers, it offers great value for an EV with modern tech. Emotionally, it provides guilt-free driving and a stylish, futuristic vibe.

The Bad

A significant weakness to note is the past battery recall, which caused production halts and trust issues. While this has been addressed, it's crucial to verify the battery status of any used Bolt EUV. The interior materials, while functional, aren't the most premium. All-wheel drive is not available, limiting its appeal in snowy regions.

What Problems Does the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Have?

The most significant issue affecting the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV (and other Bolt models) was a battery recall due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the battery to catch fire. This issue led to multiple recalls and production halts. Chevrolet ultimately replaced battery modules in affected vehicles. Owners should confirm that any 2022 Bolt EUV they are considering has had the battery replaced or received the necessary software update to mitigate the fire risk.

Beyond the battery issue, some owners have reported minor infotainment glitches and occasional issues with the charging system. However, these problems are less prevalent than the battery concern. Long-term reliability is still being assessed, but the battery issue cast a shadow of doubt. The fix appears to be effective, but it's essential to check the vehicle's history and confirm recall completion. It's also worth noting that some early reports cited uneven tire wear, which could be related to driving habits or alignment issues. Regular maintenance and tire rotations are recommended to minimize this.

How long will the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV last?

With proper maintenance and responsible driving habits, the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV can likely provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-12 years of service. Electric vehicles generally have fewer moving parts than gasoline cars, potentially leading to lower maintenance costs. However, battery health is a key factor in long-term durability. Gradual battery degradation is expected over time, resulting in reduced range. Regular charging to 80% capacity rather than 100% can help prolong battery life. Monitoring battery health and following recommended maintenance schedules are crucial for maximizing the vehicle's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Connectivity is enhanced by available Wi-Fi hotspot. For entertainment, it offers a standard six-speaker audio system, with options for upgrades.

Driver-assistance features are comprehensive, including Chevy Safety Assist, which consists of automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, forward collision alert, and front pedestrian braking. Adaptive cruise control is available on the Premier trim. Super Cruise, a hands-free driving system for compatible highways, is an optional feature exclusive to the Premier trim, making it a standout in its class.

Safety features include ten standard airbags, a high-strength steel safety cage, and available rear cross-traffic alert and lane change alert with side blind zone alert. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) awarded the 2022 Bolt EUV a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave it a 'Top Safety Pick' award, indicating good performance in crash tests.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Prices and Market Value

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV had a starting MSRP around $28,000 when new, before factoring in federal tax credits and state incentives. Used market prices currently range from approximately $18,000 to $25,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The battery recall significantly impacted resale value initially. However, with the battery issue addressed, prices have stabilized somewhat. Factors affecting resale value include the availability of government incentives for new EVs, battery health, and overall vehicle condition. Expect faster depreciation compared to some gasoline-powered SUVs due to rapidly evolving EV technology and battery advancements.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV are generally comparable to other small SUVs. "Fuel" costs are significantly lower than gasoline vehicles due to the cheaper cost of electricity. Maintenance is also typically less expensive, as EVs have fewer moving parts. However, battery replacements, if needed outside the warranty period, can be a substantial expense. Overall, the Bolt EUV is generally economical to own, primarily due to lower fuel and maintenance costs, offsetting potentially higher depreciation and repair costs.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV competes with EVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia Niro EV, and Nissan LEAF. In terms of price, the Bolt EUV is often one of the most affordable, especially after incentives. Performance is comparable, with similar acceleration and range figures. The Kona Electric and Niro EV offer slightly more premium interiors and longer warranties. Reliability has been a concern for the Bolt EUV due to the battery recall, giving the Hyundai and Kia an edge. The Nissan LEAF's older technology and less efficient battery make it a less compelling choice.

Features-wise, the Bolt EUV's available Super Cruise is a unique selling point. However, the Hyundai and Kia models offer more advanced safety features on lower trims. The Kia Niro EV often gets high marks for its blend of practicality and features. Depending on priorities, the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV might be better alternatives for buyers prioritizing reliability and a more upscale interior. If Super Cruise is a must-have and budget is a primary concern, the Bolt EUV remains a strong contender.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV a Good Sedan?

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is a good choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking an affordable and practical electric SUV. It's ideal for city dwellers and commuters who appreciate its compact size, nimble handling, and ample range. It's worth buying, *especially* if you can find a used model with a confirmed battery replacement at a significant discount. The Premier trim offers desirable features like leather seats and Super Cruise. Before purchasing any used model, ensure the battery recall has been addressed. If reliability is a top concern, consider alternatives like the Hyundai Kona Electric or Kia Niro EV, but be prepared to pay a bit more.

I see some negative remarks about range in cold weather, but here in California, I get a 300 mile range in the summer, and 264 in the winter. Third year of use, battery holds better charge than when purchased brand new. Used for Uber part-time.

Stay away!

The car is not practical in the winter. The range plummets to 130 miles in 40 degree weather and to well under 100 miles in the extreme cold. Charging takes 10 hours at a level 2 charger. Impossible to take it on a road trip in any weather.

Super fun EV car

2022 EUV Premier with sun & Sound and Super Cruise , I have the car one month and love it. I bought this EV to get around Phoenix area so not concerned about range, charges up over night even if down to 35%. Chevy installed the 220V plug no money from me. Car is really fun to drive, I'm getting used to one pedal drive to try max regen So far I have had no problems at 1500mi. Everyone that had rode with me has said they have never felt such a smooth ride. Did not want the super cruise but I was on a waiting list and someone backed out of this car. I have tried super cruise and it seems to work very well.

Checks All The Major Marks

EUV Premier, 4000 Miles Already, Chevrolet managed to surprise me with an incredibly cheap and well built EV, feeling very large inside, and surprisingly comfortable, the amount of room is more than satisfactory for my everyday use, the range is great (although DCFast Charging could be faster), the motor is very peppy, the handling is refined, and the AC and cooled seats does amazing in the 120 degree heat of La Quinta, I do hope it ages well with time.

So far , so good

Traded in my MKZ for the 2022 Bolt EUV , everything is excellent right now , I purchased the premier edition with the sun and sound package, it’s really nice not having to buy gasoline, the car has many features and I received a 6300 rebate from GM and 2000 rebate from Connecticut so I got 8300 off the sticker price and a free home charger installation too

Could be great bur bad QC execution

I have had it only 3 weeks purchased new and its been in shop 3 times. Love look and feel and electric performance but odd issues with known TSB's apparently. Harmonic vibration in front when cold at around 46mph - TSB to take entire front off and add foam tape. Now weird screeching from front driver wheel/steerings/suspension - on second repair attempt with dealer waiting for GM to respond. This could be a cool car and GM could lead the electrification movement but this is poor quality control - we'll see how it goes but poor start.
