What Problems Does the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE often revolve around the infotainment system. The Touch Pro Duo system can be slow to respond, glitchy, and prone to freezing, requiring reboots. Battery issues have surfaced in some instances, including premature degradation and, in rare cases, complete battery failure, resulting in costly replacements. Charging port issues, particularly those related to DC fast charging, have also been noted.

Recalls have been issued for the I-PACE, including concerns related to the high-voltage battery potentially overheating and causing a fire risk. It's crucial to check if any recall work has been performed on a specific vehicle before purchase.

Long-term reliability is a concern. As an early model year EV, the 2019 I-PACE has shown some of the typical teething problems associated with new technology. The complexity of the electrical system and reliance on software contribute to potential points of failure. Some reports also mention issues with the climate control system and sensor malfunctions.

How long will the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE last?

Based on owner data, a 2019 Jaguar I-PACE is expected to provide approximately 150,000-200,000 miles or 10-12 years of service with proper maintenance. However, the battery's lifespan is a critical factor influencing long-term durability. Degradation will occur over time, reducing range. Regular software updates are crucial for maintaining optimal performance and addressing known issues. Weaknesses include the infotainment system's continued potential for glitches and the possibility of costly battery replacements as the vehicle ages.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Jaguar I-PACE boasts a range of tech and safety features. Standard tech includes the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with two touchscreens controlling navigation, media, and vehicle settings. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available. Entertainment features include a standard sound system, with an optional Meridian surround sound system for enhanced audio.

Driver-assistance features comprise lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control (available), blind-spot monitoring (available), and a rearview camera as standard. Optional features include a 360-degree camera and park assist.

Safety features include multiple airbags, stability control, and anti-lock brakes. Euro NCAP awarded the I-PACE a 5-star safety rating. IIHS and NHTSA ratings may vary; check official sources for the most accurate information. The vehicle also features regenerative braking, enhancing efficiency and providing additional braking force.

2019 Jaguar I-PACE Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE ranged from around $70,000 to $86,000 depending on trim and options. As of late 2024, used market prices generally range from $25,000 to $40,000. The I-PACE has experienced significant depreciation due to factors like battery degradation concerns, reliability reports, and the rapid evolution of EV technology. Lower mileage and excellent condition can improve resale value, but the market heavily favors newer EVs with longer ranges and updated technology.

2019 Jaguar I-PACE Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE tend to be higher than average due to its luxury status and repair costs. "Fuel" costs (electricity) are significantly lower than gasoline. However, maintenance and repair costs can be high, particularly for electrical system components and potential battery replacements. Long-term ownership can be costly if major repairs are needed, offsetting some of the fuel savings. It's not the most economical choice in its class.

2019 Jaguar I-PACE Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Jaguar I-PACE is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2019 Jaguar I-PACE competes with the Tesla Model X/Model Y, Audi e-tron, and BMW iX. In terms of performance, the I-PACE offers sporty handling and quick acceleration, but Tesla models often provide superior range and charging infrastructure. Features are comparable, but the I-PACE's infotainment system lags behind Tesla's and Audi's offerings.

Reliability is where the I-PACE struggles compared to its rivals. Tesla has its own issues, but the Audi e-tron and BMW iX generally fare better in reliability surveys. Price-wise, the used I-PACE is now often more affordable than comparable Tesla models, but the long-term cost of ownership could be higher.

Alternatives to consider include the Tesla Model Y (for superior range and charging), the Audi e-tron (for better reliability and a more traditional luxury experience), and the BMW iX (for a blend of luxury and technology). The Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 also offer compelling value and range for the price.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE a Good Wagon?

The 2019 Jaguar I-PACE is ideal for buyers who prioritize sporty handling and a distinctive design in an electric SUV, and who appreciate a luxurious interior. However, it's only worth buying used if you're comfortable with potential reliability issues and higher maintenance costs. A thorough inspection and extended warranty are highly recommended. Specific trims matter less than the overall condition and maintenance history of the vehicle. Consider later model years or alternatives if reliability is a major concern. New, it's overpriced but used can be good if issues are understood.

I bought a fully specked 2019 Ipace in 2020 and have put ~15k miles on it. It isn't a very efficient EV, and today many other EVs will charge faster, but if you are staying with a 300 mile / 500 km circle most of the time, it is perfect for you. Drives really well. Loads of awards. Unique.

Worst service experience in my life.

For four years I loved this vehicle. It then developed battery issues and was kept at the dealer for THREE months. I was initially told they were awaiting parts and was subsequently told they were awaiting a software upgrade. After three months I picked up the vehicle and now some of the steering wheel instrumentation was no longer working. Back to:the dealer. On the day the Instrumentation problem was “fixed” I drove the vehicle approximately 20 miles and the vehicle died and had to be towed back to the dealer. I have since sold the vehicle and would never buy a Jaguar again. Stay away!

Highly recommend!

I purchased the "First Edition" more than a year ago and have been loving it ever since. I traded in my Mercedes S550 and never missed it. The car is super quick and handles great. I find the seats very comfy. The tech is a little slow, but doesn't really bother me personally. I use the Andriod Auto and like how it works. The heated steering wheel works great, and is a favorite feature of mine. I have only used this car with my home charger, and it works great for commuting. I haven't had any problems with the car. Highly recommend!

Better than all the rest

Fantastic driving experience, gorgeous inside and out, downside is my wife and daughter use it all the time. The build quality is exceptional and you need to drive it to appreciate it. I cannot find a single fault for this vehicle.

Disappointing. Looks great, very unreliable

I have owned it for eight months, a full one of which will have been spent back in the dealership as they search for faults they cannot generally even find, let alone fix. There are way too many electrical faults for a car of this price - including: key not recognised (frequent), charging doesn't work (occasionally), won't switch on at all (occasionally), screen not working properly (frequent), remote won't unlock (frequent) gesture tailgate not working (constant). I sense this was rushed to market without the testing or the engineer training to back it up. I wish I hadn't bought it. Add to that it gives me back trouble on any journey that last longer than 30 minutes - despite the seat adjustment options.

Best of all worlds

This is our second EV (leased the BMW i3 before). Owned the I-PACE since May 2019, has 13,500 miles so far, it has been a wonderful vehicle all around. Obviously never having to buy gas, the instant torque with AWD are the biggest draws. We charge primarily at home and it "fills-up" for less than $4.00 with GA Power's EV rate (11:00 pm - 7:00 am). But, its size, city and highway driving manners, interior and exterior styling makes it the perfect car for us. The only time I needed to go to the dealer was for a software update. The infotainment and connectivity updates can be made over the air and Jaguar has been good about fixing bugs and making improvements. I definitively would recommend this car to anyone looking for an EV that does it all in style.

Poor Electronics

The car looks great and drivers great. But the onboard electronics are unreliable. Routinely glitching, locking up, needing to reboot, etc. Even CarPlay has good days and bad days. Jag is aware of problem. All offer to do is update and reinstall. They know there's an issue and they can't fix it. Would not recommend unless you really don't care about a user interface.

Range anxiety

Lovely car to drive, good stering and response. Dose not deliver in manufacturers boast of 292 miles. If you get 220 you will be doing well, the range is very difficult to rely on, as with all driving it depends on how you drive, but this is a major let down, and doesn't even charge past 252 miles.

Oh Dear!

A wonderful drive however it was towed away 3 weeks ago after only 3,000 miles and Jaguar can't find the problem. I only get an update when I phone the dealer and endure the recorded messages informing me how great the iPace is. As a Jaguar owner for 25 years this has to be the worst experience yet.

A Great Luxury Electric Vehicle

This car is fantastic!!! I'd highly recommend this vehicle for anyone in the Luxury EV market. Tesla has the slight edge in range, technology, and a vast super charging network. However, Tesla can not compare to the Jaguar I-Pace's more appealing exterior styling/design, luxurious appointed interior, superior build quality, better reliability, better road terrain/off road capability and Jaguar's 5 year zero maintenance program that cant be beat by any Luxury auto-maker. I purchased and installed a Level 2 charging station in my garage, so I rarely need to charge while away from home. Yet, on a trip from Minnesota to Chicago, I used the Plugshare app and filtered for locations with high powered stations along my route , and charging was a quick and a breeze!! Lastly , there are current sales throughout the nation with 17k- 23k discounts on the 2020 I-PACE.
