The Good
The 2000 Chevrolet Tracker offers a compelling value proposition. Practically, it boasts decent fuel efficiency and a low purchase price. Emotionally, its small size and available 4WD offer a sense of adventure and freedom. While not luxurious, it's generally reliable, and its simple design makes maintenance straightforward. Performance is adequate for city driving and light off-roading.
The Bad
The 2000 Chevrolet Tracker's weaknesses include its limited interior space and modest engine power. Rust can be a significant concern, especially in regions with harsh winters. Owners should also watch out for potential issues with the automatic transmission and the four-wheel-drive system. Ride quality can be harsh on rough roads.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2000 Chevrolet Tracker Have?
Electrical issues, such as problems with the power windows and door locks, have also been reported. Engine issues, though less common, can include oil leaks and overheating.
While specific recalls may vary, checking the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) database is recommended for the most up-to-date information. Long-term reliability concerns center around the vehicle's age and the potential for accumulated wear and tear. Regular maintenance is crucial to mitigating these issues. Specific model year variations in problem frequency are not significantly documented, suggesting consistent issues across the model run.
How long will the 2000 Chevrolet Tracker last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are virtually non-existent, reflecting the era's technology. Safety features include standard front airbags and seatbelts. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) may have been available as an option.
Crash test ratings from the NHTSA for the 2000 Chevrolet Tracker are generally poor, reflecting the safety standards of the time. The vehicle's small size also contributes to its vulnerability in collisions. Side impact protection is minimal or non-existent. Due to the age of the vehicle, modern safety advancements like stability control, traction control, and multiple airbags are not present. Prospective buyers should be aware of these limitations when considering this vehicle.

How Does the 2000 Chevrolet Tracker Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Price was a significant advantage for the Tracker and Vitara, making them more affordable than the Jeep Wrangler. As alternatives, consider the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 from the same era for more reliability and practicality, although they will likely command a higher price and less off-road capability. The Suzuki Vitara/Sidekick is a very similar alternative to the Tracker and may be more easily found. If off-roading isn't a priority, the CR-V and RAV4 are significantly better choices.

Great car!Bought my 2002 Tracker LS 4 door with 500 miles on it in 2002. I still have it and I love it. Baby is soon to be 13 yrs old, 130000 miles and still running strong. Lots of cargo room to flea market in, good gas mileage, great to have the 4 wheel drive in the snow although it does tend to wonder in the wind. I've replaced the windshield 2xs, tires 2xs, brakes, battery and just recently radiator (plastic cap finally cracked from old age!). Keep thinking I need to trade but can't find anything I like better! Would buy another Tracker if I could find one.

Fun to drive, very dependableHave had this vehicle for 3 years, both my wife and I drive it around town and on a few trips. While it does blow around a bit during wind gusts, it isn't so problematic.

Great, reliable car!We purchsed this as a third car -- a car for our kids. We felt it was safe, reliable and it was just that. Going to and from high school and using it myself on occasion, it was just a great vehicle.

ReliableBought the car new off the lot in 2001. 4 door 4x4 hard top. It provides enough cargo space for what i need as a musician but sometimes i could use another foot or so. It'll blow around in the wind but otherwise handling is great. The great turning radius surprised me. Allover a great car. 9 years and never broken down.

I likeThe tracker has been great to me, other then the possible flipping, and blowing around in the wind. Its not good in snow, 4WD or not!

like itI've had this vehicle for over 3 years without problems. Like most SUVs it catches alot of wind on a gusty day but handles well in snow. The seating is uncomfortable especially back-seat for adults. Lots of cargo space. A noisy drive also
