What Problems Does the 2015 BMW M4 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2015 BMW M4 center around a few key areas. The most prominent and concerning is the potential failure of the crank hub. This component connects the crankshaft to the timing chain, and its design in the S55 engine has been known to be a weak point. Failure can lead to significant engine damage requiring costly repairs. Symptoms include misfires and a loss of power. It is important to note that the 2015 model year is affected.

Another common issue reported by owners involves the iDrive infotainment system. Glitches, freezes, and connectivity problems are not uncommon. While these issues are generally not safety-related, they can be frustrating.

There have also been reports of issues with the electronic wastegate actuators on the turbochargers. These actuators can fail, leading to a loss of boost and reduced engine performance.

While the 2015 M4 has not had a large number of official recalls, checking the NHTSA website for any outstanding recalls related to your specific VIN is essential before purchasing. Long-term reliability can be affected by these known issues, as well as the general wear and tear associated with high-performance vehicles. Regular maintenance and addressing potential problems early are crucial to mitigating these risks.

How long will the 2015 BMW M4 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 BMW M4 can reasonably provide 150,000-200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. However, this is highly dependent on maintenance habits. Regular oil changes, timely replacement of wear items (brakes, tires), and addressing any mechanical issues promptly are crucial. The crank hub issue, if not addressed, is a major long-term weakness. Other potential long-term durability concerns include turbocharger wear and tear, potential cooling system leaks, and general deterioration of rubber components. Preventative maintenance and careful driving habits are key to maximizing longevity.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 BMW M4 comes equipped with a respectable array of built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features for its time.

Tech & Entertainment: The centerpiece is BMW's iDrive system, controlling navigation, audio, and vehicle settings through a rotary dial and screen. Standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and a Harman Kardon surround sound system providing excellent audio quality.

Driver-Assistance: Standard driver-assistance features include a rearview camera and parking sensors to aid in maneuvering. Optional packages offered features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring.

Safety: Standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a full complement of airbags.

Optional Features: Some notable optional features included a head-up display, which projects important information onto the windshield, and adaptive LED headlights that adjust to steering input for improved visibility.

Crash-Test Ratings: As a performance-oriented vehicle, the 2015 BMW M4 wasn't specifically crash-tested by both the IIHS and NHTSA. However, the 4 Series coupe, upon which it is based, received good scores in many crash tests, providing a reasonable indication of the M4's safety performance. Always consult the IIHS and NHTSA websites for the most up-to-date and specific crash test data.

2015 BMW M4 Prices and Market Value

The 2015 BMW M4 had a starting MSRP of around $65,000 when new. Current used market prices typically range from $30,000 to $45,000, depending on mileage, condition, and options. The M4 has experienced significant depreciation, but its strong performance and desirability help it retain value better than some other luxury cars. Factors affecting resale value include the car's history (clean title, service records), condition (interior/exterior), mileage, and the presence of desirable options like the Competition Package or carbon-ceramic brakes. Cars with the crank hub issue addressed will command a higher price and be more desirable.

2015 BMW M4 Cost of Ownership

The 2015 BMW M4 is considered costly to own due to its performance nature. Insurance premiums are higher than average. Fuel costs can be significant due to its need for premium fuel and performance driving habits. Maintenance, especially preventative, and repairs (particularly related to the crank hub or other potential issues) can be expensive. Long-term ownership requires a dedicated budget for upkeep and potential repairs. It's not an economical choice compared to mainstream vehicles.

2015 BMW M4 Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 BMW M4 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Coupe with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 BMW M4 Compare to Other Coupe?

The 2015 BMW M4 competes with vehicles like the Audi RS5, Mercedes-AMG C63, and Cadillac ATS-V. In terms of performance, the M4 offers a balanced combination of power and handling. The AMG C63 delivers a more visceral, raw experience with its V8 engine, while the RS5 provides a more refined and planted feel with its all-wheel-drive system. The ATS-V offers comparable performance at a potentially lower price point.

In terms of features, the M4 is generally well-equipped, but its infotainment system can feel dated compared to newer rivals. Reliability is a concern for the M4, particularly with the crank hub issue, making the AMG C63 or RS5 potentially more reliable choices, although they have their own potential problems.

In terms of price, the M4 sits in a similar range to its German competitors, but the ATS-V can often be found for less on the used market.

Alternatives:
  • Mercedes-AMG C63: For a more powerful and raw driving experience.
  • Audi RS5: For a more refined driving experience and all-weather capability.
  • Cadillac ATS-V: For comparable performance at a potentially lower price.

If reliability is a primary concern, thoroughly researching the potential issues of each model is crucial before making a decision.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 BMW M4 a Good Coupe?

The 2015 BMW M4 is ideal for driving enthusiasts who prioritize performance and handling in a stylish package. It's worth buying if you're aware of its potential weaknesses, particularly the crank hub issue, and are prepared for higher running costs. Buying used is generally recommended due to depreciation. Prioritize examples with a well-documented service history, ideally with the crank hub preemptively addressed. The Competition Package, if available, enhances the driving experience further. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified BMW mechanic is essential to assess the vehicle's condition and identify any potential problems.

PHENOMENAL

The F82 M4 will go down in history! The looks are timeless, so much power, and very reliable. One of the best bang for your buck sports cars. However if you are looking for a comfortable daily driver this is not the car for you. It is stiff and you feel every bump in the road. Not a bad thing but if you want more comfort get a 440i. This car does what it is supposed to do perfectly.

Travelin’ in Style

Great performance car, also comfortable. 6 speed manual convertible with several different programmable drive modes. Meant to be driven, this car is as easy to drive locally as on the open road. Trunk space is negligible with the top down. Black on black— a head turner.

Most reliable car I have owned

I purchased a 2015 BMW M4. The room at front and back seat is big enough, that is fit for most of people. Nice drive experience.

The. ULTIMATE. Attainable. Driving. Machine

I have never driven a car as fun to drive as this car, yet so adaptable. You can select comfort mode and it drives like a normal car, but if you want a more sporty feel, you can do it with the push of a button. It's a real head-turner as well.
