The Good
The 2011 BMW M3 delivers thrilling performance from its naturally aspirated V8, offering an engaging driving experience. It provides a comfortable and well-appointed interior for daily use. While not the most efficient, its iconic design and strong resale value make it an attractive option. Reliability is generally good with proper maintenance, appealing to both practical and emotional desires for a high-performance vehicle.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2011 BMW M3 include rod bearing issues, especially in earlier production models, throttle actuators failing, and potential for high maintenance costs. Carbon buildup can also be a concern. Thorough pre-purchase inspection is crucial. Look for documented maintenance history to assess prior repair or preventative maintenance.

What Problems Does the 2011 BMW M3 Have?
Another common problem is throttle actuator failure, which can cause reduced engine power and requires costly replacement. Carbon buildup on the intake valves is also frequent, especially with short trips and city driving.
Regarding recalls, it's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN on the NHTSA website for any outstanding safety recalls. While not specific to the 2011 model year, some recalls related to airbags or fuel pump issues may apply. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around preventative maintenance. Regular oil changes with the correct BMW-specified oil are crucial to mitigating rod bearing issues. Thorough inspection of the cooling system is also vital to prevent overheating. Addressing these potential issues proactively can significantly improve the car's longevity.
How long will the 2011 BMW M3 last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are relatively limited compared to modern cars, but include dynamic stability control (DSC) and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Safety features include front and side airbags, as well as head airbags for both front and rear occupants.
Optional safety features include rear parking sensors. While advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or adaptive cruise control were not available on this model.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS vary depending on the body style. The sedan typically performed well in crash tests. It's essential to check specific crash test results for the coupe, sedan, or convertible models on the NHTSA and IIHS websites to get the most accurate and up-to-date information. The structural rigidity and comprehensive airbag system contributed to its solid safety performance.

How Does the 2011 BMW M3 Compare to Other Convertible?
In terms of price, the M3 fell in the middle of the pack. Alternatives to consider include the Porsche Cayman S (for handling), or the Lexus IS-F for a more reliable (albeit less engaging) experience. The CTS-V is an excellent choice for sheer power and value, but the M3 holds its own with its driving experience. The Audi S4 of the same year offers a good balance but doesn't match the M3's raw appeal. Ultimately the choice depends on budget, performance preference, and tolerance for potential maintenance costs.

The M button transforms this car!Feels like a true sports car in the 6 speed manual. Handles excellent. No turbos! Just pure and simple Bmw V8 muscle. E92 has a reason to have fans.

BMW M3 at SeldenCar has superior power, handling, and styling. It was difficult finding a v8 with a manual transmission in the colors I wanted. I finally found it at Selden after searching the web for awhile.

Great car, gets plenty of attention with V8 soundThis car was exactly what I expected in performance, styling, handling and comfort. Hard top convertible is a great summer driving car. Strong V8 engine, with great driving sound.

Great Euro-Performance CarI have owned this car for over 4 years and it has been a pleasure driving her each and every time. I have invested a lot into her cosmetic and performance. The best car I have ever owned. I always have people show their appreciation for her Look and Sound. She is track ready but has never been tracked. V-8 Power and Performance. Low Profile for an even sportier look and style. Silverstone Metallic II color with Black Wheels and Carbon Fiber Accents. Just a georgous car!!

Awesome performance, beautiful interior! This is the last of the naturally aspirated M3, with a 4.0L V8. With the appropriate exhaust the downshifts are amazing. I owned the DCT version with competition package and coupled with the suspension modes and launch control this is a fun package. The car does not have too much torque so is not tail happy, but balanced around the corners.

Best Sounding Engine Ever!I owned a 2009 bmw 335i coupe, and upgraded to the 2011 m3 coupe. Car is glued to the road, it is one handling machine. My favorite thing about the car is the engine, it screams all the way to 8400 rpm. Lacks low end torque, but a couple downshifts and you're ready to go!
