What Problems Does the 2024 GMC Terrain Have?

While the 2024 GMC Terrain is relatively new, some commonly reported problems across recent model years (particularly related to the 1.5L turbo engine) include issues with the fuel system and excessive oil consumption. Some owners have reported problems with the infotainment system, such as slow response times and occasional glitches. Transmission issues, while not widespread, have also been mentioned in some owner forums.
Recalls can occur, and it's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the latest recall information specific to the 2024 model year and its VIN. Long-term reliability can be affected by the turbocharger's longevity, and consistent oil changes are crucial. Owners should pay close attention to any unusual engine noises or performance changes. Furthermore, staying up-to-date with software updates for the infotainment system can help mitigate some of the reported issues. Any unusual noises or vibrations from the transmission should be investigated promptly to avoid potential major repairs. Pre-purchase inspections by a qualified mechanic are advisable for used models to identify any underlying problems.

How long will the 2024 GMC Terrain last?

With proper maintenance, the 2024 GMC Terrain can be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years. Regular oil changes, timely fluid replacements, and adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule are crucial. Long-term durability can be affected by the turbocharger, so regular checks are advisable. Potential weaknesses include the infotainment system's reliability over time and the potential for engine issues if not properly maintained. Consistent care and addressing issues promptly will maximize the vehicle's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2024 GMC Terrain features a standard 7-inch or optional 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Available tech includes built-in navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a premium Bose audio system.
Standard driver-assistance features include Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Following Distance Indicator. Optional features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert. A rearview camera is standard, and higher trims offer a surround-view camera system.
Safety features encompass a suite of airbags, stability control, and traction control. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for the latest safety performance data. These ratings generally indicate good performance in various crash scenarios, but checking the specific model year's results is essential for an informed decision. The Terrain's safety tech and sturdy build contribute to its appeal as a family-friendly SUV.

2024 GMC Terrain Prices and Market Value

The 2024 GMC Terrain had a starting MSRP in the high $20,000s, reaching the mid-$30,000s for higher trims like the Denali. Used market prices will vary depending on mileage, condition, and trim. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, accident history, and demand for compact SUVs. Depreciation is typical for this class, with the Terrain holding its value reasonably well compared to some competitors, particularly the Denali trim. Maintaining the vehicle's condition and keeping up with maintenance can help retain its resale value.

2024 GMC Terrain Cost of Ownership

The 2024 GMC Terrain's ownership costs are generally moderate. Insurance premiums are typical for its class. Fuel costs are reasonable, given its fuel economy. Maintenance costs are average, but repairs can be expensive if the turbocharger or infotainment system fails. Long-term ownership costs depend on maintenance habits and repair needs. Overall, it's not the most economical compact SUV, but it's not excessively costly to own either, landing in the middle of its segment.

How Does the 2024 GMC Terrain Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2024 GMC Terrain competes with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Ford Escape. In terms of performance, the Terrain's 1.5L turbo engine lags behind some rivals, particularly the RAV4's and CR-V's more powerful optional engines. Feature-wise, it offers a comparable range, with the Denali trim providing a more upscale experience. Reliability is generally good, but the RAV4 and CR-V have historically had an edge. Price-wise, the Terrain is competitive but can be pricier in higher trims.
If performance is a priority, the RAV4 Prime (plug-in hybrid) or Mazda CX-5 Turbo offer better acceleration. For ultimate reliability, the Toyota RAV4 is a strong contender. The Honda CR-V provides a well-rounded package. The Mazda CX-5 offers a more engaging driving experience. The Hyundai Tucson presents a strong value proposition with a long warranty. Each alternative has its strengths, so the best choice depends on individual needs and priorities.

Final Verdict: Is the 2024 GMC Terrain a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2024 GMC Terrain is ideal for buyers seeking a stylish and comfortable compact SUV with a slightly more upscale feel than mainstream competitors. It's worth buying if you appreciate its design and available features, but performance isn't your top priority.
Buying new allows you to benefit from the latest features and warranty. A used Terrain, particularly a certified pre-owned model, can offer good value. The SLT trim provides a good balance of features and price, while the Denali appeals to those seeking a premium experience. Consider alternatives if you prioritize performance or have concerns about long-term reliability of the 1.5L turbo engine.

I've had a 2024 Terrain for about 8 months now.

I've had a 2024 Terrain for about 8 months now. The transmission went out at 1464 miles and had to be replaced. Yesterday coming home from work, the car died at a red light and wouldn't start or even allow me to put it into neutral so I could get it pushed off the busy arterial. So I waited for about an hour for a tow truck. The car has 2024 miles on it now and has been in the shop over 3 weeks already. I'm waiting for the diagnosis now. To add to this, the dealer told me he can't give me a loaner since they are all out due to so many cars in their service lot waiting for engines and transmissions. Based on my personal experience I would stay away from any GMC product for at least another year or two. Hopefully they will figure out the problems and get them fixed.

To be honest, this SUV impressed me with the great performance even with the small 1.5 liter engine, and huge space inside, it rides like a bigger vehicle, very responsive on the highway and very quiet cabin. My wife really liked it.

Quality built vehicle

Very well made vehicle. Feels sturdy and has quality ride and features. The 1.5 L turbo four cylinder is plenty strong for daily use. The Elevation package has excellent gloss black wheels that are 19 inches. For daily driving this is a perfect SUV.

The New GMC Terraine

Right now we only have 1,500 miles on the car, but we drove it from Tampa to St Louis and it was a comfortable smooth ride. No problems accelerating to get back into interstate traffic. The car has a small engine but packs plenty of power. The big hill at Mount Eagle, Tennessee was no problem.

GREAT BUY FOR THE MONEY

This is the 4th Terrain that we have owned. This is a great vehicle. Very versatile, comfortable and reliable. The Terrain is spacious can comfortably carry 5 and converted can haul lots of cargo. It's quiet inside with a comfortable ride. Bought a new color for 2024 called downpour. It's a rich metallic blue. My neighbor says it look like metallic blue jeans! All of our vehicles were purchased from the same dealership. They sell great products and have good service when needed
