Like the Insight, the model it followed, the CR-Z has

Like the Insight, the model it followed, the CR-Z has been discontinued. It's a shame because both the Insight and CR-V were ideal vehicles for someone who want a really compact car and two seats. We've driven both on long trips on the interstate and back roads with great mileage (better than EPA estimates) at 75mph on the interstate. Our Insight had almost 100,000 miles when we replaced it because of an accident with the CR-Z. The interior really cocoons the driver and passenger making it feel safe; the loe profile and great steering and ABS brakes make it highly manuverable and fun to drive. We hope Honda comes up with another 2-seater to suceed the CR-V.

great small 2 door sports car, with eco, normal or sports mode. hybrid, great on gas. added spare tire as car did not come with one.

These cars are built to last with little fuss

Just a good solid reliable comfortable car. Don't expect a hotrod, but if you want something that will take you where you want to go (with a fair amount of cargo) for 300,000 miles this is your car!

A true hybrid

Switching from a 97 Acura RL to this car is a world of difference. I love how the car can be in Econ mode and satisfy my environmentalist side, then switch to Sport mode and satisfy the "Im a 19 year old male" side of me. If you're looking for a car that will save you money on gas yet turn into a modest sport machine at the press of a button, this is the car for you. A note on fuel efficiency: I live in Washington state on a HUGE hill, if you're in the Midwest you'd probably call it a mountain. Going down the hill I get over 100mpg, but back up, I average under 10mpg. The negative seems to outweigh the positive on this. Hills damage the fuel efficiency. This hybrid is best for someone in a flat area, with traffic that isn't as bad as Seattle's traffic. Overall, this car is a fun little ride that will last for many thousands of miles, and for a lot cheaper than many of its competitors.

Honda CR-Z: The good & the bad

Clearly I have a biased opinion writing this review as I currently own one myself. Let me get to the point, its a great little fun car with very good fuel economy. When looking for a car to purchase my criteria included 2 things: being a hybrid, and having a manual transmission. It was the only car I could find. Having owning this car for almost 2 years now here is the rundown. The Good 1. Fuel efficiency. I average around 36/37 mpg for my daily drive in to work(city and highway). During a recent road trip I was averaging 39/40 mpg. These numbers aren't that impressive when compared to some other hybrids on the market, but it is a huge increase from what I was used to. 2. Looks. It is a stunning car, from both the inside and out, see for yourself in a test drive. 3. Manual. The manual transmission is so smooth (it is a Honda after all). 4. 3 modes. Although I spend most of my time in the default normal mode. For traffic, the econ mode is perfect. For those winding turns the sport mode is great as it noticeably stiffens the suspension. S+ is great for passing cars while highway driving as it gives just the right boost you are looking for. 5. Hatchback. It is so convenient to have the hatch, as well as rear buckets that fold down to give plenty of room for storage. 6. Seats. The seats in this car are surprisingly comfortable and keep you in place. 7. Solid. What do I mean by solid, well just close the doors. It feels heavy and very solid and provides a feeling of being safe, while being in such a small car. 8. Reliability. It is a Honda, need I say more. The Bad 1. Battery storage. There isn't much battery capacity in the car, for average driving it isn't noticeable, but for giant hills when the battery runs out of juice, better go in the right lane and expect to downshift because the car just doesn't have the power to get up. 2. Horsepower/Torque. These numbers are both pretty low for a car that is suppose to be "sporty" and it shows when driving. Not a huge issue if you aren't pushing your car to the max, and the batteries tend to make up for the lack of power produced by the engine, but still obvious that the car is under-powered. 3. Noise. You will hear the engine from inside the vehicle. Not too much sound dampening in the car but after a while you kind of get used to it. 4. No Back Seats. Being in my 20's and kids aren't a problem, it doesn't bother me too much. I can count the number of times I've needed rear seats on one of my hands there were so few. Yet for those few times I have, its very unfortunate for whoever gets thrown in the back. 5. Armrest. The car does not come standard with an armrest, however one is available for purchase as an accessory. I bought the armrest and installed it myself (not that complicated). It matches perfectly, however it is small, very small. When I have a passenger in the car its uncomfortable because it really is only meant for one person. The storage w the armrest is also undersized, however the armrest was still a worthwhile purchase. I love my car and some added aftermarket accessories really make this car personal and give it just that extra something.

Pleasant Surprise!

Honda CR-Z is a sporty, fun-to-drive yet economical car. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of get-up-and-go that this car has. Since it is a hybrid I thought it would be slow on acceleration but it is great. Fun to drive. Handles cornering very well. Spacious cargo area. Comfortable seating. Fantastic ride.

CRX of the future

This car saves a lot of gas and fits almost anywhere. It has a really premium feel compared to other cars in the segment like the Civic or Fit. There are a ton of features on this car that makes it worth the price. If you are looking for a commuter and don't care about only having 2 seats, this is the car for you.

The Perfect Car for Me

Bought a used 2014 CR-Z EX (no nav) with 9k miles on it, black on black. I live in the city and commute in traffic to work daily for anywhere between 30 minutes and an hour and 30 minutes. I'm also single. For me - it's perfect. A little bit of sportiness, really easy to park, great gas mileage - and with the black wheels, I think it looks really great. Any of the compromises are easy for me to deal with (bumpy ride sometimes, poor rear visibility, no back seats). I had put off test driving this car because reviewers had slammed it for not being either a sports car or a true hybrid - but I find the mix to be perfect... for me. Definitely won't be perfect for everyone.
