The 2014 Honda Ridgeline is a unique pickup truck known for its unibody construction, offering a smoother ride and better handling than traditional body-on-frame trucks. The first generation Ridgeline ran from 2006 to 2014, with the 2014 model year being the last of that generation. Key trims include RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, and SE. Its pricing range when new was roughly $30,000-$37,000. It's popular due to its car-like comfort, innovative features like the in-bed trunk, and dual-action tailgate.
The Good

The 2014 Ridgeline boasts a comfortable ride and surprisingly agile handling for a pickup. It's known for Honda's reputation for reliability. The in-bed trunk and dual-action tailgate are undeniably practical. Its unique design appeals to those seeking something different, while its smooth ride makes daily driving enjoyable.

The Bad

The 2014 Ridgeline's weaknesses include its relatively low towing capacity compared to traditional trucks. Its fuel economy isn't great for its size. The unconventional styling isn't for everyone. Some owners have reported issues with the integrated audio system. Rust can also be a concern in areas with heavy road salt use, so inspecting the undercarriage is crucial.

What Problems Does the 2014 Honda Ridgeline Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 Honda Ridgeline are relatively few, reflecting Honda's reputation for reliability. However, some owners have noted issues with the audio system, specifically the integrated head unit malfunctioning or having connectivity problems. Rust, especially in areas with road salt, can be a concern, so regular undercarriage washing is recommended. Premature wear of suspension components, particularly the rear trailing arm bushings, has also been reported in some cases.

Regarding recalls, it's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any specific recalls affecting the 2014 Ridgeline. While there haven't been widespread, recurring issues, recalls can address safety-related concerns that may arise.

Long-term reliability is generally good. As the vehicle ages, issues common to older cars, such as wear and tear on belts, hoses, and other rubber components, can occur. Proper maintenance, including regular oil changes and fluid checks, is crucial to maximizing the vehicle's lifespan. Addressing minor issues promptly can prevent them from escalating into more significant problems. Overall, the 2014 Ridgeline is known for its dependability, but like any vehicle, it requires proper care to maintain its reliability over time.

How long will the 2014 Honda Ridgeline last?

With good maintenance, a 2014 Honda Ridgeline can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report exceeding this milestone with proper care. Average mileage at this point (2024) would be approximately 100,000 to 150,000 miles. Long-term durability is a strong point, but weaknesses can emerge over time, including rust in colder climates and potential issues with the suspension, especially the rear trailing arm bushings. Regular maintenance, including rust prevention and timely suspension repairs, will significantly extend its lifespan. The engine and transmission are generally very reliable if properly maintained.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Honda Ridgeline's built-in tech is relatively basic compared to modern vehicles, but it offers essential features. Entertainment options include a standard six-speaker audio system, with higher trims offering upgraded systems with satellite radio and USB connectivity. Navigation was an optional feature available on the RTL trim. Driver-assistance features are limited, primarily consisting of a rearview camera on the RTL trim.

Safety features include standard antilock brakes (ABS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control, and multiple airbags.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) should be consulted for specific scores. Generally, the Ridgeline performed well in crash tests for its time, providing decent occupant protection. Check official sources for detailed ratings. The absence of advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring is a notable difference compared to newer vehicles.

2014 Honda Ridgeline Prices and Market Value

The 2014 Honda Ridgeline had a starting MSRP of around $30,000 and could reach up to $37,000 for the higher trims. Currently, used market prices typically range from $15,000 to $25,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. Depreciation is moderate, thanks to Honda's reputation for reliability. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (especially rust), service history, and geographic location. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage command higher prices. The unique design and features of the Ridgeline also contribute to its resale value.

2014 Honda Ridgeline Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2014 Honda Ridgeline are typically moderate. Fuel costs can be high due to its relatively low fuel economy. Maintenance is generally affordable, thanks to Honda's reliability. Repairs are usually infrequent and not overly expensive. Long-term ownership costs are moderate overall. While fuel economy is a drawback, lower maintenance and repair expenses help offset this. It's not the most economical truck to own, but its reliability contributes to reasonable long-term costs.

2014 Honda Ridgeline Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Honda Ridgeline is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Honda Ridgeline Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2014 Honda Ridgeline competes with mid-size trucks like the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, and Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon. In terms of ride comfort and handling, the Ridgeline surpasses its body-on-frame rivals due to its unibody construction. However, its towing capacity is lower. The Tacoma is known for its off-road capability and strong resale value, while the Ridgeline offers a more refined on-road experience. The Frontier is a more budget-friendly option but lacks the Ridgeline's features. The Colorado/Canyon offer a wider range of engine options, including a diesel, and potentially higher towing capacity.

In terms of reliability, the Ridgeline is on par with or slightly better than most of its competitors. For features, the Ridgeline's in-bed trunk and dual-action tailgate are unique selling points. Depending on priorities, alternatives to the 2014 Ridgeline could include the Toyota Tacoma for off-roading and resale value, or the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon for greater towing capability and engine choices. For someone prioritizing on-road comfort and unique features, the Ridgeline remains a compelling choice. Consider a newer Honda Ridgeline if a more modern feature set is desired, though at a higher price point.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Honda Ridgeline a Good Vehicle?

The 2014 Honda Ridgeline is ideal for buyers who need a truck's versatility but prioritize comfort, handling, and unique features over maximum towing capacity or off-road prowess. It's a good buy if found in good condition with a solid maintenance history. Rust is a major concern, so a thorough inspection is crucial. Higher trims like the RTL offer more features, but the RT or RTS trims can be good value choices. Given its age, buying used is the only option. If you need a truck for light-duty tasks, appreciate its innovative features, and prioritize a smoother ride, the 2014 Ridgeline is worth considering. If heavy towing or serious off-roading are requirements, look elsewhere.

Very safe and reliable truck

Excellent and very safe truck to drive daily. Gets 20.5-21 MPG on the highway and 17 in town. Great design but could use a bit more horsepower and torque.

my 3rd ridgeline

owned a 2007, 2011, and now the 2014...great vehicle, roomy, good power. Two things that can change are fuel consumption and pay-load. If the truck could carry a heavier load it would be perfect TOO BAD THEY CHANGED THE STYLE, will not be getting another for that reason

Gas mileage sucks big time!

It's an ok truck. Looking back would not buy this truck again. At an average mile per gallon of 13.6 in town and 18.5 cruse control on long trips is really bad.Currently the truck has accumulated less than 60,000 miles.

Best Truck for all around needs.

I love this truck. It fits all your needs. Hold up to 6 people with tons of space to take whatever is needed. Then if you need a kicked area the truck is excellent, or going to a picnic or gathering, loaded it with ice. Love,, love love!

Most comfortable utilitarian vehicle ever.

Great utility and comfort. All the comfort and ride of a large suv as well as functional utility of a truck for a “do-it-yourself” kind of owner.

Three vehicles in one.

This truck meets my needs. The cab stays clean for people hauling. The bed is for hauling trash, debris, or materials. The trunk in the bed stows all of my tools.
